Chapter 10

With a loud noise, the bottle fractured into pieces. The wine that spilled out mixed with blood, blurring Avery's vision. Everything happened too fast, and no one reacted in time. They didn’t expect her to be so ruthless toward herself.

“Avy!” Tyler widened his eyes as he quickly held onto the stumbling Avery. “What are you doing?” he fumed in a low voice.

This woman would rather smash a bottle on herself than apologize. Her stubbornness was really beyond anyone's expectations!

Avery leaned against her brother’s embrace and took a few breaths. Then, she looked at Lewis and said, "Is that enough? If you're not satisfied, I can do it again."

As she was about to pick up another bottle, Tyler stopped her.

He, too, became angry. He looked at Lewis with fury in his eyes and said, "Lewis, we've known each other for almost 30 years. Are you sure you want to turn tonight into an irrecoverable mess?"

That was what Josephine saw the moment she came in.

She hurriedly ran to Avery. When she saw the blood on her forehead, it filled her heart with guilt. Tears began swirling in her eyes.

Avery caught sight of her and asked weakly, “Why are you here?”

Lewis also frowned and questioned, “Who allowed you to come?”

“I…I was the one who called her,” Fred stuttered in the corner.

Josephine turned to look at Lewis and Sierra sitting side by side like a match made in heaven.

She then strutted quickly toward Sierra.

Sierra clung tightly to Lewis’ arm. Perhaps she was afraid, or perhaps she was trying to assert ownership.

Lewis frowned, his gaze following Josephine’s movements.

Josephine stopped in front of Sierra, who lifted her chin and looked at her provocatively. After a few seconds, she bowed to her and gestured, "I'm sorry. It's all my fault. Please forgive me, Miss Woods."

Sierra turned her head away and glanced at Lewis’ expression. Apart from his furrowed brows, she couldn't tell what he was feeling.

"What is she saying? I don't understand," Sierra muttered softly, expressing her dissatisfaction.

It was true that she couldn't understand sign language, but she had known Josephine for so long that she could understand the basics. “I'm sorry" was Josephine’s most commonly used expression, and Sierra was just pretending not to understand.

Sierra felt that things could still get bigger. It would be best if Lewis and Tyler became enemies. If this news spread, no one would dare to underestimate her in Elysium in the future.

Josephine bit her lip and turned to look at Lewis, her eyes pleading.

Lewis remained silent, and a chilly aura enveloped him just from the force of his presence.

Josephine walked over to him and crouched down beside him, tugging his arm, not to act cute but to beg.

Upon seeing this, Avery was about to interfere, but Tyler stopped her and covered her wound with napkins, which were quickly soaked with blood.

Sierra held onto Lewis’ arm tightly, afraid that his heart would soften because of Josephine.

Josephine looked up at him with tears streaming down her face, looking incredibly pitiful. She raised her hand and gestured toward the man, "Lewis, I won't go to work anymore, never again. Don't make things difficult for Avery, okay?"

Lewis stared at her fingers. When he first learned sign language, he asked her what that particular gesture meant.

Josephine told him it meant "brother,” but only she knew that it was actually his name. She had never called him “brother” before.

The atmosphere in the room was so terrifyingly quiet that one could hear a pin drop.

Everyone was watching Josephine, witnessing her plead before Lewis and being embarrassed in front of her enemy.
