Isla~

"So you're saying..." I breathed out, barely above a whisper.

"There has been a chip inside you for almost all your life and you never even knew?"

My eyes reflected the disbelief coursing through me. But Dante just shrugged like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"Pretty much," he said, standing up and walking to the bookshelf behind him.

"What? Why?!"

Dante chuckled softly, his hand resting on the edge of the shelf. With a casual strength, he moved it aside like it weighed nothing.

"That's the same question I've been asking myself for a while now."

"And I'm determined to find answers."

But my attention had already shifted to the door that was now revealed behind the shelf. A solid wooden door that looked older than everything else in the room. It had been hidden there the whole time, like a secret waiting to be discovered.

I slowly rose from my seat as Dante reached for the doorknob, opening it with the ease of someone who had done it a hundred times.

"Come on in," he s

  • What The Don Wants   Ticking

Dante~My father had always been a really uptight man. He never really spent time with me and Nancy, never smiled, never joked around. He was all about business but somehow, he still earned my utmost respect.I had watched him grieve after we lost our mother due to complications surrounding Nancy's birth.I watched him turn to alcoholism as a way to cope. He would drown himself in glass after glass of the strongest liquor. I listened as he would cry behind closed doors and cuss out my mother for leaving him.My father got fired from his job, things began going bad for him. Yet, he never for one day raise his voice at me or Nancy. He never blamed us for his misfortunes. At least, not openly.Instead, my father grew more distant and colder. He said fewer words. It was almost like he had assumed a whole new personality, one that scared me back then. I was way too young to understand what pain could do to a man. It didn't kill my father, so it transformed him. Into someone way darker. He

  • What The Don Wants   A bigger fool

Isla~I stepped out of the vehicle, shutting the door behind me.The abandoned industrial site loomed in front of me like a forgotten ruin from a darker era. Rusted metal structures towered above, some creaking with the wind, others standing still like silent witnesses to the decay of time. The entire place made my skin crawl. Ugh!My entire body was tense as I scanned the surroundings with wary eyes, looking for any sign of Seraphine or Katya. The wind howled through the broken windows and steel beams, making eerie whistling sounds that felt like whispers from ghosts. And I was never really a believer.I rubbed my arms, goosebumps rising beneath my jacket as a bitter gust bit into my skin. It was freezing out here, like winter had crept in early.I checked the address again on my phone. Just to be sure I was in the right place. And I was. Still, there was no sign of anyone. No lights. No sounds. Just darkness and dread.I turned on my cellphone flashlight and began walking, weaving

  • What The Don Wants   Till morning

Isla~"Fucking stupid!" I hissed, knocking a nearby glass off the table.I was mad.Mad at myself for everything that happened tonight. How could I have been so stupid? How could I not tell the whole time, that Seraphine had been behind Katya's disappearance all this time? The rage burned hotter in my heart, the more I thought about it.All those killings Dante had shown me, it was probably still her doing. Seraphine. She was the one inciting this war against her El Diablo, making us believe he had been the one behind all those attacks. I bet he isn't even aware of what Seraphine had been up to.I was pacing back and forth in the living room, seething and barely unable to control my rising temper. Fernando stood by the door, a nervous expression on his face as he watched me. Kayla too.But none of them dared to say a word.I hated this. I hated feeling like this.Powerless. Unable to do anything.Even now that I've confirmed who had been holding Katya, I couldn't do a damn thing ab

  • What The Don Wants   Plan gone wrong

[A/N: Had a really long chapter, so I had to split it into two. See this one as a continuation of my previous chapter. Thanks for reading ♥️]Isla~He suddenly turned around, taking a single step forward. I could see his features now, sharp and cruel under the dim lights. His mouth curved into a twisted grin as he steps into the open, revealing the knife glinting in his hand."You finally caught up," he sneers, his voice low but sharp enough to cut through the faded background noise. His eyes were glinting with dark, malicious intent like he had been waiting for me to make this move.He wanted me here. And I played right into his snare.I tried not to show my fear, but my breath hitched in my throat."I have no time for games,"I spoke up, my voice trembling just slightly. "Where is Katya?"The man lets out a soft, mocking laugh, his dark eyes traveling over me like I was nothing but prey. "Katya? Doesn't really sound like a name I've heard of recent."Then he paused."Is that why yo

  • What The Don Wants   The plan II

Isla~This was it!I took in a deep breath as I stood in front of the familiar, tall building. This was my moment to fix... everything. If this plan doesn't work, then I didn't know what else will.I adjusted my mini-gown one last time, before proceeding into the night club. Like before, the bouncers let me enter without any hassle. Probably because of Katya's influence.I smiled nervously at them as I finally entered into the loud sea of dancing, drunk people. The music vibrated through the floor beneath my feet as I made my way deeper into the club, surrounded by flashing lights and the buzz of the crowd. The strobe lights flicker in a dizzying dance, and the air felt thick with heat and the scent of alcohol. I found myself moving to the beat, pretending to be one of the carefree club-goers. But underneath the façade, my heart raced. Every part of me was alert, ready to pounce at the slightest sign of him.The hooded manI couldn't afford to slip up.I repeated the plan in my head

  • What The Don Wants   The plan

Isla~I heard him.His heavy footsteps stopping right in front of my door. I heard. His heavy breathing as he stood there, not knowing what to say.I heard him call out my name, his voice barely above a whisper. He was leaving. Without me.And although it tugged painfully at some strings in my heart, I decided to remain silent.I had told him already, that unless Katya is brought back, I wasn't going to follow him anywhere. It wasn't like I needed to be in Sicily anyway. The only reason he was probably trying to take me along was because he wanted to "protect" me. I knew how obsessed he was with keeping me by his side. And I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction this time.Peeking out my window, I watched him approach the fleet of cars that awaited him.Clad in a black, custom tailored suit, he looked as dashing as always. I almost regretted my decision to ignore him. Almost.Just as he opened the door to get into the car, he paused. He paused as if sensing my eyes on him.And he
