Chapter 3

Author: Blushing Thoughts
Theo paused momentarily before raising his head, his deep eyes filled with disbelief. "The color of the pearl depends on the merfolk's mood."

I touched my belly and said slowly, "I don't care. If you don't cry, I'll release your baby into the sea."

His expression changed abruptly.

Three minutes later, I stared in astonishment at the notorious villain who was feared outside. His eyes were red as pearls dropped with a pattering sound. The pale pink pearls rolled around on the plate, sounding particularly pleasant.

The system suddenly made a ding.

[The villain's corruption level has dropped to 85%.]

I happily picked up a pearl. This task was simple. If this continued, I was afraid I would make Theo a sweet and naive merman who only cried pearls.

However, just when I thought I was sure to succeed, Melody came. She was dressed in a plain white dress and stood at the villa entrance with red eyes, looking pitiful. "Theo, please save my father... He's been caught. Only you can find him..." Her voice choked up.

I stood in the doorway, sneering, "Get Reagan to help."

Melody bit her lip, and tears came streaming down her face even faster. "He doesn't have those kinds of connections..."

I paused before realizing it. The male lead was always an optimistic, righteous, and domineering CEO, while the villain was sinister and ruthless. Thus, the first person Melody thought of was always Theo, with his bloodstained hands, when she needed someone to do her dirty bidding.

I glanced back at Theo standing at the corner of the stairs. He stood there quietly, his eyes unfathomable, while he held the slippers I had just kicked off.

A sudden surge of anger welled up inside me. "You're not allowed to go!"

Melody bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes. "Since Elle won't allow it, forget it..."

She looked pitiful as she turned to leave.

Just as she was about to step out the door, Theo suddenly said, "Wait."

I watched as he knelt, gently put my slippers back on, and even adjusted their position. Then, this bastard actually got up and followed Melody!

"Theo!" I grabbed a slipper and smashed it on the back of his head. "Don't come back if you go!"

The slipper hit my target, making a crisp smack.

He paused and did not turn around. He just rubbed the spot where he had been hit and continued walking.

I was so angry that I almost threw the other slipper at him as well.

...

At 3:00 am, I checked my phone for the 28th time. The screen was still completely black.

Suddenly, the system notification popped up with a beep.

[Warning! Villain's corruption level has increased by 12%. Current value: 97%.]

I sat upright, nearly straining my back. "What? I've been carrying his baby like a hen, working myself to the bone. I only managed to reduce his corruption level by 15%. He went out with the female lead for one night, and it increased by 12 points?"

The system added quietly, "To be precise, it’s only been four hours and 38 minutes."

"What? Did Melody use him as ransom for the kidnappers?" I sneered, touching my belly.

Suddenly, the sound of a car engine came from outside the window.

I darted to the window and saw Theo's car slowly drive into the front yard, its headlights casting two hazy streaks of light in the rain.

What angered me even more was that he was carrying something in his hand when he got out of the car. The packaging had Moonlit Sea's logo printed on it.

On the specially made king-size bed, five little merchildren slept soundly. Theo frantically cooked seafood stew in the kitchen. The scales of the once gloomy and paranoid merman's fishtail had a warm, lustrous sheen now.The system notification rang out. "Exchange successful. Congratulations, you have obtained the right to spend the rest of your life with Theo."Before leaving, it suddenly asked me, "Is it worth it? Using all your points for a fish?"I replied to the system with a smile. "Look, he'll cry pearls for me."In the small box beside my pillow, the purple pearls were from when he was jealous, the blue pearls were from when we were being intimate, and that unique red pearl... was from when he held me the night the five babies were about to be born. The system disappeared, grumbling, "Hopeless love-struck fool!"The York family's ending was more tragic than imagined. After Reagan's death, his grandfather began to suffer from the festering of his internal organs because

Theo chuckled softly. "Don't worry. It's... safe... during pregnancy."The system immediately logged off. "Take care, Elle!"...On delivery day, Theo was so nervous he almost destroyed the delivery room. One moment, he was yelling at the doctor to save me; the next, he was squatting in a corner mumbling to himself, "If anything happens to Elle, I'll drown myself!"He was mentally unstable. When the five wrinkled little merbabies were brought out, he only glanced at them before turning away in disgust. "How ugly. Take them and release them."Having just given birth, I grabbed a pillow and threw it at his face. "Theo! Say that again?"Theo was quiet. The system commented, "Elle, you're awesome!"Perhaps because their mother was human, these five little merbabeis mastered the ability to freely transform their legs earlier than Theo had, and they used this talent for mischief. At the Year 1 merfolk parent-teacher conference, Theo and I were called to school for the first time.

Theo's full-force impact finally worked in his merman form, and seawater mixed with broken glass gushed out. His fishtail drew a sharp arc through the mess on the ground, directly sending two thugs who charged over flying. He grabbed my wrist tightly, his fishtail still dripping blood. "Elle! Are you okay?"I was just about to answer when there was suddenly a bang. The door was burst open, and a group of... strangely-shaped sea creatures charged in menacingly.I was puzzled. The leading doctor was the clownfish merman who gave me prenatal checkups, and he was waving his scalpel. "Catch these two humans and drag them to the bottom of the sea!"I rubbed my eyes, suspecting that I was hallucinating.I turned my head stiffly. "Theo... Are cross-species mercenaries popular... in the sea?"Theo's lips twitched. Before he could speak, the doctor walked over angrily. "Mrs. Atwater! These are all the guards Mr. Atwater's parents left for him!"I took a closer look. In the front row wer

Reagan turned around without any hesitation.Samuel understood and walked toward Melody, holding a stun gun in his hand.Melody struggled violently, her voice almost hoarse. "Reagan! You bastard!"Reagan did not turn back. He just instructed indifferently, "Do it."The stun gun was immediately pressed on Melody's skin. Her whole body convulsed as a shrill scream echoed in the sealed room.Theo stared at all this, his fingers clenching so tightly that the joints turned white, his nails deeply embedded in his palm, and blood oozed out again. He shook his head slowly. "It's pointless, Reagan. I can't cry anymore. Melody is no longer the person who mattered the most to me."I could not take it anymore.Melody's scream cut my nerves like a dagger, while Reagan stood by with a terrifyingly calm gaze. It was as if he were just watching an insignificant experiment. He ordered flatly, "Turn the power up. Theo isn't cold-blooded. He'll cry."Samuel grinned maliciously as he increased th

Melody was stunned. "Reagan, why are you here?"Samuel faked a smile. "He's my partner. Thanks to Mr. York, I found out that the leader of the Eternal Night Gang is actually a monster that's neither human nor fish! It's also thanks to his secret sponsorship that I developed the potion to suppress mermaids."Melody's eyes widened as she asked in disbelief, "Reagan, didn't you promise me you wouldn't reveal Theo's identity? Why... "Reagan explained in a flustered manner, "Melody, my grandpa is ill. Only merfolk's flesh can relieve his pain. Besides, aren't you afraid of Theo?""Reagan! You've lost your mind! That's only a relief, not a cure!" Melody was scared to look into Theo's eyes.I cursed in my mind. The system was puzzled. "Elle, what did you say? What does that mean?"I answered coldly, "I just cursed Reagan's family."Wild hope surged up in Reagan's eyes. "There's hope for a cure! If the merfolk cries out black pearls, my grandpa's illness can be cured! Back then, I alm

The center square in the aquarium used to be the star exhibition area of the aquarium. Now... it had probably become Samuel's carefully prepared execution ground. The car came to a sudden halt outside the aquarium.I took a deep breath and was about to get off when the system suddenly screamed, "Elle! I picked up Melody's life signal. She's here too!"I paused. "What?""Samuel must've used her as bait! She's locked up with Theo!"I gritted my teeth and fished out a gun from the trunk. Theo had insisted on teaching me how to use it for self-defense."Lead the way."In the dark corridor, only my footsteps echoed. The further I went in, the more humid the air became. It was even mixed with a faint... smell of blood. My heart was beating so fast that it almost burst out of my chest.Turning the last corner, the scene before my eyes made my blood flow backward.Theo was chained in the center of the huge aquarium tank. His half-human, half-fish form was fully exposed; his once vib
