Chapter 9

I sighed and reached out to smooth Theo’s frown. "If you want to go, go ahead."

Melody was a hostage. I could not ignore her life.

Theo pulled me into his arms with such force that I could hardly breathe. He buried his face in my neck and explained in a muffled voice, "When I was a child, I was so playful that I got stranded on a reef once."

Theo's fingers unconsciously caressed my waist. "I couldn't transform into my legs yet and almost got discovered by humans... It was Melody who saved me."

My heart gave a jolt, and I finally understood their relationship.

"After rescuing her, I'll ignore her for good."

He raised his head, his deep eyes staring straight at me. "I promise."

I felt a sting in my eyes as I suddenly learned why he was always so tolerant of Melody. If it were not for her helping hand back then, Theo might not have made it…
