Chapter 7

Author: Cocojam
A sharp pain shot through my chest. The wolf inside me cried out.

"It wasn't me!" I screamed, sitting bolt upright. "Use the bond! If I'm lying, you can kill me right now!"

The blood bond was our most sacred connection. No lie could hide within it.

He finally looked up, his deep blue eyes bloodshot, swimming with pain and conflict.

"Everyone saw you. How am I supposed to believe you over my entire coven?" he snarled. "How can I protect you when you make it impossible? I have sacrificed everything for our 'forever'—for this damned eternity!"

This damned eternity.

That’s what our love had become to him.

"If our eternity is a curse," I said, my voice dangerously quiet as I met his furious gaze, "then I don't want it."

"What?"

"I want to break our bond."

The words hit the room like a bomb.

Dorian's face went white with rage. He slammed his fist into the stone table beside him.

The solid marble shattered.

"What did you just say?" His voice was a low growl. He lunged, his hands gripping my shoulders like steel bands. "Say. It. Again."

"I said," I repeated, each word clear and sharp, "I want. To break. The bond."

"No!" His roar shook the room. "You can't leave me!"

"Why not?" I laughed, a cold, broken sound. "You already have your perfect family, don't you? You have your heir. What use is there for this 'outsider' anymore?"

"Because I love you!" he roared, his eyes wild with desperation. "It has only ever been you!"

We stood there, locked in a standoff.

His hands were shaking. His eyes were a storm of pain, madness, and despair.

Finally, he pulled me into a crushing embrace.

"Don't you ever talk about leaving again," he rasped, holding me so tight I thought I would break. "Ever."

I didn't fight him.

I had no fight left.

"Liliana has forgiven you," he said against my ear. "But on one condition."

I closed my eyes, waiting for the final blow.

"I have to perform the Blood Moon Vow with her," he finally said, his voice hollow. "It's the only way to legitimize the heir."

The Blood Moon Vows.

The most sacred union for vampires, a pledge of eternal fidelity.

I smiled, but it was a smile of pure heartbreak.

"When?"

"In three days."

I nodded, unable to speak.

For the next few days, Dorian was a model of devotion.

He fed me, changed my bandages, and took me for walks in the garden.

It was as if nothing had happened.

But after I was discharged, everything was different.

The castle was buzzing with servants preparing for a wedding.

Red carpets, silver decorations, and massive bouquets of blood-red roses.

Dorian confiscated my communication device.

"To prevent any accidents," he explained.

Blood servants began to watch me twenty-four hours a day.

"For your safety," he said.

I was a prisoner in his castle.

On the day of the Blood Moon Vow ceremony, I sat in my room, listening to the noise outside.

The guests were arriving, their laughter and congratulations echoing through the halls.

Just then, a soft knock came at my door.

It was Elder Viktor.

Right. This was the day we agreed I would leave.

"A flight ticket to the Crimson Port," he said, handing me an envelope. "And a new identity."

I took the envelope, my face calm as I fought back the pain.

Then I stood and picked up the suitcase I'd already packed.

"Freya," Viktor called out. "Don't you want to watch the ceremony? Hear the vows he makes to her?"

I shook my head.

"No."

I walked out the door with my suitcase, the sound of ceremony bells ringing through the night air.

I didn't look back at the lavish ceremony. I didn't stay to hear Dorian's vows of eternity to Liliana.

I just sat in the back of the car, watching the castle shrink in the distance until it was gone.

Let the past, and the love that was never meant to be, fade away.

Goodbye, Dorian. May you enjoy your new eternity.

The one without me.

Freya's POVThe negotiation proceeded in a tense, suffocating atmosphere.Dorian sat across from me, his eyes never leaving my face.Even with the veil, even with my altered voice, he stubbornly believed I was Freya. He wasn't wrong. But I would never admit it."Regarding the storage conditions for the Heart of Blood," I continued in a professional tone, "it requires a special crystal container, with the temperature maintained at ten degrees below freezing...""Enough," he suddenly interrupted.I looked up at him."We both know this isn't about the trade," he said, his voice weary and pained. "Freya, stop this charade."I was silent for a few seconds."I don't know what you're talking about, Your Highness," I looked back down at my papers. "If you have no objections to the terms, we can proceed with the final exchange."He didn't speak again, just stared at me.I took an exquisite crystal box from my bag. It contained the complete formula and samples for the Blood Plague cure."This is

Dorian's POVI forced myself out of my despair. No, there was still hope. But the message from the Guild's envoy was unbelievable."The healer I'm supposed to meet with is refusing?"The envoy nodded nervously."Yes, Your Highness. She said she's unwell and needs a leave of absence. The Guild is willing to send another excellent healer in her place—""No," I cut him off, my voice cold as ice. "I will only see her."This was the real reason I came to Veridia. Not for some damn "Heart of Blood" trade. It was because I'd tracked a piece of information—the genius healer who cured the Blood Plague had long, silver hair.In this world, how many werewolf healers had silver hair?"Your Highness, but she is truly unwilling—""Go back and tell your Vice-Master," I stood, looming over the envoy, "if she doesn't come, the deal is off."The envoy's face went pale."Your Highness, you can't! The Heart of Blood is too important to our Guild!""Then have her meet me," I said, turning to the window. "T

Freya's POVThe next morning, I went to find Elias."Vice-Master, about yesterday..." I knocked on his office door."Freya!" Elias looked up, excited. "Perfect timing! I'm preparing the materials for the meeting!"His desk was covered with documents and herb samples."Actually, I came to tell you I can't attend the meeting."The pen in Elias's hand froze."What? Why?"I had my excuse ready."I need a leave of absence," I said, trying to sound calm. "These last three months have been exhausting.""But Freya, this opportunity is too good to pass up—""Send someone else," I cut him off. "Marcus or Elena are both excellent."Elias frowned."But they specifically asked to meet with you, Freya. You're the one who developed the cure. You created this miracle.""Then tell them I'm sick," I said, turning to leave. "Or that I'm on a field mission. Whatever it is, I won't be there.""Freya!" Elias called out urgently. "What is wrong with you? Your reaction yesterday when you heard the name Valkyr

Dorian's POVA week later, Liliana miscarried. She lost the child in her womb, and with it, her place in the Valkyrie family.I didn't see her one last time. Now, I sat in the family office, a mountain of documents piled in front of me.Taking over the family affairs was always my destiny, but now, it was just a tool to numb myself.Only when buried in this tedious work could I stop thinking about her, just for a moment. But even then, Freya's ghost was everywhere.Every report I read, I remembered the focused look on her face when she helped me organize papers.Every signature I signed, I remembered the soft whisper of her voice in my ear."Jacob!" Dorian's POVHelena's face was chalk white. She stared at me, her eyes filled with terror."How much... how much did you hear?" she stammered.I didn't answer.I just stared at her coldly, the way you'd look at a venomous snake. The look in my eyes silenced her.Just then, hurried footsteps echoed down the hall.Viktor rushed over, carrying a bottle of precious aged blood."How is she? Is Liliana alright?" he asked anxiously, clearly here to soothe the "unwell" future princess of his. Then he noticed the strange tension between us."What's wrong?"I ignored Helena's panic and turned my gaze to Viktor. I calmly began to tell the 'story' I had just overheard."Care to hear a story, Father? A story about a substitute bride. A pure-blood sister who refused to marry, so her half-blood sister took her place and deceived an entire family..."The bottle of blood slipped from Viktor's grasp, shattering.
