Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
"You can just ride with Charles. It's a good chance to get to know each other. Maybe you'll even find a boyfriend sooner," Kahlan offered.

Hearing that, Robert let out a whistle, looking between Charles Levitt and me with a suggestive grin.

I felt sick to my stomach.

Earlier that evening, Kahlan suddenly asked me out for dinner. I happily agreed.

Only after arriving did I realize she invited me because she was meeting her online acquaintance, Robert.

But Robert brought his friend Charles, who did not have a date. To keep him from feeling awkward, she deliberately called me over to keep him company.

Not wanting to interfere with whatever reckless thing they were planning, I swallowed my anger.

I simply waved my hand firmly and said I could take a taxi home.

But Kahlan blocked me, and we ended up in a standoff for quite a while.

Robert complained to her, "Kahlan, young women like this just love to act difficult, always need people to beg them again and again. I don't know what makes her think she's so special. I prefer someone obedient like you."

Kahlan blushed shyly and lightly punched his chest.

The two of them flirted shamelessly as if no one else was there.

I took a deep breath and stopped wasting words. I brushed her hand aside and headed straight for the exit.

"Don't go!" she shouted.

Before I could get far, someone suddenly lifted me and slung me over his shoulder.

"Come on, just give me a chance. I'll definitely satisfy you in every way," Charles said, smacking my backside as he spoke in a lewd tone.

Only then did it hit me. This so-called exploration of the abandoned school was probably just a cover. Their real intention from the start was something far more twisted.

And me? I was already thrown under the bus by Kahlan.

In my previous life, I was even stupid enough to think I owed her.

The thought filled me with overwhelming hatred.

I struggled violently, kicking and flailing. "Put me down! I said put me down! Can't you hear me?"

In the struggle, I drove my foot hard between Charles' legs.

With a cry of pain, he dropped me.

Clutching himself, he howled.

Kahlan, however, scolded me loudly, furious that I attacked a man's vital and most vulnerable spot, calling me a vicious bitch.

The fall left me dizzy, my head spinning.

Before I could recover, Kahlan grabbed my hair and slapped me hard across the face.

"I brought you here to make me look good, and you just embarrassed me! Charles, let's go. I'll introduce you to someone ten times prettier than her!" she said, glaring at me with venom.

Charles, having recovered slightly, spat at me and kicked me several times before being pulled away, still cursing as he went.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the girl who went with Robert in my previous life. She looked terrified and hurried into the car.

I did not have time to focus on her.

Robert's car pulled up in front of me. Kahlan rolled down the window and called out, "I kindly invited you out to have fun, and this is how you repay me?

"You brought this on yourself. If you dare run to my parents and complain, I won't let you off."

I shrank back, pretending to be afraid. Only then did she seem satisfied and drive off.

I hailed a taxi and quickly put on makeup.

Half an hour later, I was already at the plaza of Kahlan's residential complex.

The elderly people dancing there stared at me in shock—hair disheveled, looking like a mess.

Like a madwoman, I grabbed the microphone, my voice trembling with tears as I shouted with all my might.

"Does anyone know Kahlan? Which building does she live in? She's been taken away by men! Can someone please save her?"

Before she was even discharged, news came: Robert suddenly died of a heart attack in prison. His mother refused to accept it, of course. But Robert's father, Rufus, was not about to destroy his remaining sons over one who was already dead. From that point on, Robert's parents turned against each other, fighting bitterly until both of them eventually met their own misfortunes.Clarisse's younger brother seized the opportunity, rose to power, and took control of the company. As for Rufus, he was left paralyzed after a car accident and handed over to Clarisse. She was free to take care of him however she saw fit.Once the Albrecht family's affairs were finally settled, Kahlan called me in a panic, saying the police were looking for her and begging me to save her.Clarisse, who was casually eating an apple nearby, let out a cold laugh. "Idiot. The moment she made that call, her location was already tracked."It turned out that when Kahlan was with Robert, she was helping him lure vi

Robert tapped the table lightly, and Kahlan immediately hurried over to pour him a drink. He glanced at me lazily. "You're the one behind the police report, aren't you? I can let that slide. But spreading rumors about Kahlan and me everywhere, that's going a bit too far."Still, for Kahlan's sake, I'll give you another chance. I'll contact the media. You'll appear on camera, apologize publicly, and clarify the truth."I let out a soft laugh. "The truth? Isn't it already what's being said online? Oh, sure, some versions aren't entirely accurate. Mr. Levitt here didn't voluntarily seek out those vagrants; he was forced."The wine glass shattered as it was slammed down. A hidden door in the private room swung open, revealing several well-built men inside.I twitched slightly. If the timing was not so bad, I might have laughed. Was this seriously a signal by smashing a glass?"It seems you're adamant on doing this the hard way," Robert snarled.I pushed further, glancing at the men

Originally, I had no intention of going. But Kahlan suddenly changed her attitude. She was no longer arrogant and didn't question how her earlier words to me spread. Instead, she acted pitiful, playing the victim to gain sympathy.I wanted to see what she was planning. So I agreed to meet her at the appointed time and place.Clarisse already went ahead in disguise as a difficult customer to scout the location. She told me the club belonged to the Albrecht family. Each VIP room had a hidden door. Behind it, there was enough space for over a dozen people to have fun together. She clicked her tongue in amazement. It was no wonder that the moment she leaked even a hint of information, people rushed to buy the scoop from her, and it got spread so quickly. The Albrecht family did too many outrageous things. Plenty of people were just waiting for a chance to expose them.I, however, looked at Clarisse with some doubt. If those rooms were really that scandalous, could they be discove

I suddenly remembered that news report from my previous life, the one about a vagrant assaulting someone that was quickly taken down.Choosing my words carefully, I warned Clarisse that if this spread online, the Albrecht family would likely pay to suppress it.Clarisse blinked, a mischievous smile playing on her lips."I know. With the Albrecht family's money, something posted one second could get taken down the next. But I never said I'd spread it online. I'm going to, hehe."I was dying of curiosity, but she refused to say more.Still, I soon found out what she did.The next day at work, just as our meeting was about to end, my boss suddenly burst out laughing. After a while, he finally composed himself and said seriously, "You all better not go messing around with stupid adventures when your lives are perfectly fine."Do you know the Albrecht family? That Rufus Albrecht, his family's rich, right? But no amount of money can fix a son who's an idiot. That moron went to some ab

Robert stared fixedly at the cracked floor, lost in thought. It was the police who finally shouted and broke up the argument, bringing everyone back to the police station. But to everyone's surprise, both Kahlan and Robert stuck firmly to the same story, that the three of them went to explore together, but once they arrived, they split up.They insisted they were a proper couple, and in the heat of the moment, things naturally progressed between them.As for Charles' death, they claimed they had no idea what happened. They claimed he might have slipped in the dark. The police snapped angrily, "That's a life we're talking about! Do you realize giving false testimony is also a crime?"But they remained unmoved.A younger officer, clearly frustrated, couldn't help but mock them, "You two must be pretty impressive then, going at it over ten times in one night, and even pulling off that? What, were you using a stick or something?"He was quickly reprimanded by his superior and sent

I looked up.Kahlan was half-naked, her upper body exposed, hanging precariously from the window ledge. One of the livestreamers who came with us immediately swung their camera toward the window, excitement written all over their face.Perhaps the group heard us coming. Just then, a filthy hand suddenly grabbed Kahlan and yanked her back inside.Mrs. Ellis collapsed into hysterics. "You animal! Let go of my daughter!"I told her to call the police, and that took up even more time.Just then, the sounds stopped.A suffocating silence spread, heavy as death. The school was enormous, and none of us knew the layout. For safety, everyone stuck close together as we made our way toward the main building where we just saw her.But just as we reached the bottom, someone screamed, "Ahhh! Look! Is that a dead body?"I shone my flashlight over.It was Charles.A steel rebar pierced straight through his body. He was clearly beyond saving. At the sight of a corpse, even the thrill-seek
