Olivia’s Pov:
I stepped out of the cab and curiously looked around at the bustling city streets.
It was my first day in a new city and I couldn't help feeling both excited and nervous. I took a deep breath and looked up at the tall buildings that surrounded me, their glass facades reflecting the early morning light. I had always dreamed of living in a big city, and now that dream was finally coming true.
I walked down the sidewalk, I could see people hurrying to work, coffee in one hand and briefcase in the other. I wondered what was going through their minds, are they happy? or are they still rushing towards their job because that's the best suitable thing to do?
The sound of car horns and chatter filled the air, and I felt a sense of energy and excitement that I had never experienced before.I was wearing a knee-length black skirt with a white blouse tucked in, paired with simple black heels. My long brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and with minimal makeup. I dressed appropriately it boosted my confidence a little more.
I quickly reached the entrance of the building where I would be starting my new job.
I paused for a moment and took another deep breath, knowing in my heart that this was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I was determined to make the most of it.
Leaving my horrid past behind. I quickly put up a bright smile on my face, as I pushed open the door and stepped into the lobby, ready to start my new adventure in ‘Adam Publishing Company’ as an assistant to Mr.Adams.
The office was a bustling hive filled with activities. People were moving around so quickly, some with documents in hand and others on the phone. The sound of typing and clicking keyboards was making my head spin, punctuated by the occasional ring of a phone or beep of an email notification. All the confidence I felt minutes back started to fall with the happening event in front of me, and suddenly I felt overwhelmed.
In one corner of the room, a group of colleagues are huddled around a desk, discussing a project. In another corner, a lone employee sits at their desk, eyes fixed on the computer screen as they type away. The clock on the wall ticks loudly, a reminder that time is ticking away.
A manager walks briskly through the room, clipboard in hand, checking in on various employees and offering quick words of encouragement or guidance.
I recognized him. He was the senior manager Mr. Stewart who took my interview. I approached him.“Good morning! Mr. Stewart.” I said warmly while keeping my hands by my side. I didn't want to show him how nervous and intimidating it was, all making me feel. As my hand trembled a little.
“Miss Paul! Good morning, I am glad you are here, I was waiting for you.” He smiled at me and I felt welcomed.
“Come let me give you a quick tour of the company during it. I will tell you about what your job entails, then you can start your job, the boss is in a meeting right now,” he explained and started walking forward and I walked behind him without a word.
As he leads me through the corridor, pointing out the sleek and modern design of the lobby.
“Here at the reception, Rosie sits here if you have any query you can ask her.” He said as we walked by her desk. The receptionist at the front desk greeted me warmly as we passed by.
As they enter the main office area, he explains the open-concept layout, with rows of desks and cubicles stretching as far as the eye can see. The office is filled with natural light, thanks to the large windows that line the walls. He also explained which cubicle and important people I will be required to meet if a certain problem arose.
We walked past a series of meeting rooms, each with glass walls that showcase the dynamic discussions taking place inside. Some rooms are filled with laughter and animated gestures, while others are quiet and focused.
As we continued, he pointed out various departments, each with its unique vibe. The walls are adorned with colorful mood boards and artwork placed on the walls.
In the break room, the guide highlights the various amenities available to employees, including a coffee bar, fridge, and microwave. Glad they give coffee hopefully it's good. A ping-pong table and comfortable lounge chairs provide a space for relaxation and socializing.
Throughout the tour, He emphasized the company's commitment to collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being. He focused on how important it is to be on time as
Mr. Adams likes people who are serious about their job.As the tour came to an end, we came to the last floor, we stopped at a door on which Mr. Adam was written in bold letters, probably this is the CEO's office.
“So this was it, now you know how things go around here and I hope the other things you will learn quickly as time goes.” He said and I nodded my head quickly as I collected myself after the whole tour and briefing on my job. All of this felt new and it made me feel anxious and scared. I looked behind at the lift and I thought to run as fast as possible but I calmed myself thinking about the reason I came to New York in the first place.
I hope I succeed without getting fired in the first week.
“Yes, Sir I understood everything you said,” I said to him, looking at him with confidence as I spoke he stepped forward towards my small cubicle beside the boss's office and pointed towards an intercom, and showed me how it worked.
“You would press this red button and it would directly connect you to Mr. Adams, then you can transfer any messages, and similarly he can connect with you with his intercom in case he needs you with any work.” He explained.
“Now last thing Mr. Adams is in the meeting and he knows you are coming so go to the left and you would find the board meeting room and attend the meeting.” He said.
I hurried towards the meeting room not wanting to disappoint my boss on my very first day, but I guess luck is not on my side today, as I smacked my head on the glass door. As I thought it was open.
I fall to the ground on my butt, I rubbed my head, and as I lifted my head I saw several heads looking at me and a quick realization came flashing in my mind. I just made a disaster entry. Forget about getting fired in the first week. I am surely getting fired on my first day. Oops, Cheers to the new beginnings!
Oliva pov: I stood up and straightened my dress, felt a sharp pain in my ankle, and I couldn't help but wince in discomfort. The silence in the meeting room was deafening as everyone stared at me, waiting for my next move. I felt like I was under a microscope. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I tried to hide the pain and sat down on the nearest seat as the meeting proceeded. I felt mortified and I could feel my face flush with embarrassment. My first instinct was to run away and hide, but I couldn't. Despite the embarrassment and pain, I sat quietly and tried to understand the meeting. As the meeting progressed, I could see a man’s constant gaze on me, and my first thought was he was beautiful. I felt increasingly self-conscious and struggle to concentrate on the discussion. I couldn't shake the feeling that everyone might be judging me, especially the brown-eyed man who is still looking at me. After the meeting ended, I took a moment to compose myself and gather my t
Olivia pov: I finally found a moment to sit down at my desk and relax for a while. The chair felt comfortable against my back as I let out a deep sigh and closed my eyes. I know I have to work on the file but for now, I pushed those thoughts aside and allowed myself to simply relax. before I start working again. I looked at my ankles to see if they are swelling because I wasn't in that much pain like I was before but thank God it was nothing, just a little discomfort. I picked up my phone to see if there were any messages from my family, there was one message from Mum asking if I settled and how was my first day going. Should I tell her how many times today I have thought about returning? Or should I tell her how I felt when I landed in New York because I think she might not be happy to hear that I felt relieved, felt like I could breathe again? I finally felt that running from my past was the best decision because I couldn't stay there anymore and relive every memory, every day of
Olivia pov I softly knocked at the door and went in. “Yes Sir, you called?” I politely asked. He looked at me as I entered his office. “Yes Miss Paul, I want you to go to the marketing team and get me an update on the marketing plan for the new book launch." He then resumed his harsh typing over the laptop. His expression was stern and unyielding. “Okay, sure!” I said. Turned on my heels to run out of the door as quickly as possible. His scowling face intimidates me. My heart starts racing, and my palms slick with sweat. “Miss Paul?” he called from behind as I was about to walk out of the door. I turned towards him and looked at him, he ran his left hand on his face. I could see the watch in his hand. “I believe you have something that you want to give me?” He asked with raised eyebrows looking directly with his stern eyes. I looked quizzically at him. He pointed his head at my hands and I immediately looked at them and saw the two files that I came with to give him. I sheepis
Lucas pov: Just a slight touch from her and I felt I was gone. How could I feel like this? I hid my expression and told her to go and sought the work. "I will be doing it after lunch." She shifted herself straight and I dismissed her without any other thought. She left the office. I watched her go. If it was in my reach I could have behaved normally as if nothing happened although technically it was nothing! It was just a normal touch of a hand which shouldn't mean anything. But I don't how it got that power to rattle everything inside me. I couldn't think straight for a moment. Never has a female species fascinated me before like Olivia Paul did. Since this morning she came bulldozing in and she has created havoc inside my calming world. But the worst part is I can't seem to complain about it. When she went to get the update from the marketing department I went through her file which I gave her to proofread. I couldn't help but feel amused with her choice of marker colors she u
COMPLETED my first week in this office without killing my boss. He left no turn in making it difficult for me. He tested me with several unsaid sets of rules which only he knows existed but I am still here so it means I passed. I have to say he's a good boss he always made sure to see if I had any issues though he was strict. I learned a lot from him. Today I arrived earlier as there was an important meeting. I did a victory dance in my head while congratulating myself for reaching before him but it was short-lived. My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the sound his a shoe clicking on the floor. It was Logan Adams. Today he also came early. I quickly glanced at the clock on my wristwatch. It was 8:30 AM. He never arrived before 9:00 AM. Panic set in as I tried to press the lift button and leave before he arrived here to reach his office. The clicking of his shoes grew louder and closer until finally, he appeared near the lift and he pressed the lift button it instantly opened.
Olivia pov:I lifted my gaze and found his piercing eyes locked on me. I felt a shiver run down my spine, and I became completely still, afraid of causing any further damage after the mistakes I had already made."Mr. Henry, I will send the signed contracts to your office as soon as possible," he stated, his gaze still fixed on me. I stood upright, immobilized, not daring to move a muscle."Sure," Mr. Henry responded."Miss Paul, meet me in my office now," he commanded, emphasizing every word. With that, he swiftly walked away, leaving the room in a state of unease. People scattered, each going about their tasks. As for me, I reluctantly headed towards his office, knowing that I would likely be collecting my termination letter.I gently tapped on his office door and heard a faint voice permitting me to enter. Stepping inside, I uttered, "Yes, sir," as I took in the sight of him standing by his chair, meticulously rolling up his sleeves. His gaze immediately shifted toward me. "Are you
Olivia’s Pov:I strolled down to the cafeteria for lunch. I moved my eyes towards the door where her desk can be seen, to see if she was standing there, but she was not at her desk. Two days ago, I made a new friend named Maria. She was part of the marketing department but never stayed in one spot. She was the social butterfly of our office, always roaming around with a beautiful smile and probably making friends with everyone.I spotted my friends, whom I had been getting to know since I joined the company. It had been over three weeks, and I could proudly say that I had managed to navigate through them without breaking down. Hannah, Claire, and Jack are nice and warm people they made it easier for me. I walked towards their table while holding my usual lunch, a chicken sandwich with grape juice.“Hi,” I greeted them as I sat with my tray.“Hi,” Jack said with a smile. Everyone also greeted me backSoon we all fall into a comfortable conversation. It's nice to have people around you
Lucas pov: I was seated in my office, the afternoon sun casting its warm rays across the room, lighting it with a golden hue. Despite trying to stay focused on the paperwork before me, my mind kept wandering to her. As I sifted through the documents, my thoughts were consumed by her presence. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shake her from my mind. My concentration was broken when I heard the door creak open, and I looked up seeing Olivia standing there. I hadn't seen her for most of the day, and I couldn't stop my curiosity. “Where have you been?” I asked her, trying to sound casual. Olivia smiled faintly. “I was having lunch with my friends in the cafeteria,” she replied. A surge of jealousy washed over me, but I managed to suppress it and calmly requested Olivia to finish some urgent files by the end of the day. Olivia noticed my peculiar behavior, and her eyes flickered with uncertainty, yet she decided not to remark on it. As I went back to my paperwork, I loosened my
