Chapter 3

Author: Daily Corn Eater
I peeked out from behind Elias.

"Sorry, Mr. Voss. We got carried away and didn't hear you come in."

Elias played along, using his broad body to shield me as he fixed my clothes.

"Go to your room."

I quickly slipped away.

Silas stiffened at being called Mr. Voss.

I left my door slightly open and watched as he stormed over and grabbed Elias by the collar.

He lowered his voice. "I asked you to pretend to be her boyfriend and make sure she doesn't cause trouble. I didn't give you permission to take advantage of her! Are you trying to steal your own brother's woman?"

Elias barely reacted. He gave Silas a lazy look, no longer bothering to play along.

"When you asked me for that favor, you should have known this could happen. Seraphina finally believes your story. Don't tell me you regret it now. Strictly speaking, you did this to yourself, didn't you?"

The jab sent Silas over the edge.

"Elias, are you turning against me?!"

He raised his fist and swung at Elias.

"Stop!"

I rushed out and grabbed Silas's arm before the punch could land. Then I asked softly, "I thought I heard you talking about me. I don't know what's going on, but please don't fight over me."

Silas's fury instantly gave way to a conflicted expression.

While he was distracted, I pushed Elias toward the kitchen.

All that shouting had made me hungry.

For some reason, Silas shamelessly stayed for dinner.

During the meal, I kept sneaking glances at his profile, making sure my eyes looked just shy and lovestruck enough.

Silas noticed. He took his sweet time eating, a smug smile tugging at his lips.

"Why did you keep sneaking looks at me? Keep it up and Elias might get jealous."

Ugh. What a narcissist.

I glanced at Elias, whose expression had darkened, and smiled.

"I always thought your profile looked a lot like Elias's. From this angle, you two really do look alike. Actually, it's not just your faces. You look alike from behind too. When we went to that hot spring resort last year, I almost mistook Elias for you."

I bit my lip and lowered my eyes, pretending to be embarrassed by the memory.

"Luckily, it was only almost. Elias works out all the time. All it took was one good look to realize my mistake. There's no way a body that hot could belong to you."

I let my smile turn dreamy.

"Looking back, that was quite a night."

Elias cleared his throat.

Well, something like that had actually happened.

The previous year, my company had sent me away on a three-month business trip. When I got back, Silas took me to a hot spring resort to relax.

I accidentally walked into the wrong pool and found Elias there.

Through the steam, I mistook him for Silas and thought he'd secretly gotten into incredible shape. I whistled, dropped my robe, slipped into the water, and hugged him from behind.

The instant our bare skin touched, heat surged through both of us.

I still remembered the teasing look in Elias's eyes.

His eyes crinkled with amusement, and his full lips lifted into a wicked smile. He looked dangerously beautiful.

"What is this, Your Highness? Are you planning to cheat on my brother with me?"

I ran from the pool, mortified.

Of course, retelling it now made that innocent mistake sound completely different.

Silas's expression changed. He grabbed my wrist.

"What are you implying? What did you two do behind my back? When you looked at me, who were you really seeing?!"

Clearly, he remembered that day too.

I'd come rushing back with flushed cheeks and my towel wrapped tightly around me, looking guilty as hell.

When he questioned me, I made up some excuse and brushed him off.

Now that little accident sounded a lot more suspicious.

I winced.

"Why are you being so rough? Elias and I have been together for six years. What we do together is none of your business."

Elias pried Silas's hand off my wrist.

"Let go, Silas. You've crossed a line."

I immediately threw myself into Elias's arms and grumbled, "Has your brother been single for so long that he's lost his mind? What's wrong with him? Honey, please make him leave."

Elias looked up, his voice cold. "You've frightened my girlfriend. Dinner is over, Silas. Leave. And learn to respect our boundaries."

Silas shot to his feet and slammed his palm against the table, his face red with rage.

"Seraphina! Did that crash knock every bit of sense out of you? Open your eyes and look at me. I'm your boyfriend!"

"Enough!"

I stood and slapped him.

Then I snapped, "I'm not into threesomes. If you want a girlfriend, go find your own instead of trying to steal your brother's girlfriend."

I pointed at the door.

"Get out. You aren't welcome here."

Silas looked ready to explode.

"Fine! You win, Seraphina! Don't come crying and begging me to take you back when your memory comes back!"

He stormed out with a string of curses and slammed the door behind him.

The second the door shut, I dropped the act and doubled over laughing.

The door closed again.Elias untied my wrists without a word.I was still trying to figure out what to say when he looked up at me.He looked desperate but determined, as if he were about to risk everything for one last chance. He took off his jacket and slowly unbuttoned his shirt.Beneath it, he wore a sheer mesh top.The cheap fabric had rubbed patches of his fair skin raw.A thin silver chain hugged his narrow waist.Silas's punches had left cuts near his brow and the corner of his eye.Between the outfit and his fresh bruises, he looked almost indecently tempting. My brain short-circuited."What is this...?"Elias tried to hide his embarrassment, but I could hear the nervousness in his low, rough voice. His eyes glistened with unshed tears. "I knew you planned to leave me after the reception. I didn't know how to make you stay, so I thought that if I could please you, maybe you'd give me another chance."His shoulders trembled as he spoke. Fear still lingered in his eyes. "But as

Silas fought back, shoving Elias's hand away.During the struggle, Silas pinned Elias to the floor, grabbed him by the throat, and snarled, "How did you find this place, you bastard?! If it weren't for you, Seraphina would've taken me back! You went after your own brother's girlfriend. Is there anything you won't do?!"Then something seemed to click. Silas's expression changed, and his next punch landed even harder."You've been after her for years, haven't you? I knew you had an ulterior motive when you volunteered to help me look for her college acceptance letter!""What?!"I'd been standing nearby, yelling at them to stop before they killed each other. Now I fell silent and stared at Elias."You were the one who found it?"That summer had been a nightmare. Just before my father went to prison, he'd tried to punish me one last time by throwing away my college acceptance letter.I searched every trash bin outside our building and found nothing. In the end, Silas handed it back to me.

When I opened my eyes again, I saw nothing but the ceiling. The room was dark.Someone was holding my ankle while soft, warm lips trailed slow kisses over my skin."Hey!"The moment I tried to move, I realized my wrists were tied to the headboard.I was lying on a wide bed covered in rose petals. Silas sat at the foot of the bed, stroking my ankle as he looked up at me."Awake?"He wore an outrageously revealing outfit that barely covered his upper body.Red cords crisscrossed his abs, strung with tiny bells that jingled whenever he moved.Back then, he rarely agreed to dress up for me. Whenever I asked, he'd look disgusted and say, "How is dressing like that any different from being a stripper?"My eyes nearly popped out of my head. I scrambled backward.Back when we were together, seeing him like this would've had me all over him. Now, I just think he's lost his damn mind.Unbelievable. Apparently, losing me is enough to make him throw away all his pride."Y-you... stay back! Don't c

I planned to pack my things and leave right away. Then I remembered I'd promised Elias a few days earlier that I'd go to a reception with him.It was an important event, and I was already listed as his plus one.Since I'm such a kind and generous person, I decided to go with him one last time."Don't get the wrong idea. I always keep my promises. I'm just not the kind of person who cancels at the last minute."The tiny spark of hope in Elias's eyes immediately went out.I didn't expect to see Silas at the reception. He sat beside a young woman, putting food on her plate as he spoke softly to her. "Try these. The scallops were flown in fresh this morning."She rolled her eyes."I'm allergic to shellfish."Then she grabbed a lobster and happily dug in.Silas looked like he didn't know what to say. Then he spotted me. Guilt flashed across his face, and he jumped to his feet."Seraphina? You're here?"The young woman turned toward me.I finally got a good look at her face.Ione Mercer? She

Everyone nearby rushed over to help her."Aurelia! Are you all right? How did you fall?"Clutching her bruised forehead, she looked up at me and shook her head."I lost my footing. No one pushed me."Everyone followed her gaze to me, and their expressions changed. One man blurted, "I thought I saw..."Then he seemed to remember I'd arrived with Elias and quickly fell silent.Without a word, I walked over to Aurelia and slapped her across the face. Her head snapped to the side. When she turned back to me, her eyes brimmed with tears."Elias and I were only acquaintances when we were younger, Seraphina... You don't have to come after me."Wow. She really knows how to play the victim."Try that again, and a slap will be the least of your problems.""Mr. Voss is here."Everyone began explaining at once, but no one dared accuse me outright.Still, they all made it sound like I'd pushed her.Tears streamed down Aurelia's face."I'm fine, Mr. Voss. I found the first-aid kit, dipped a cotton swab in antiseptic, and dabbed antiseptic on the cut at the corner of his mouth. He frowned, ready to bear the pain without a word. Then, as if he suddenly remembered something, he pursed his lips and whined, "It hurts."My heart softened. I stroked his cheek."You're bleeding. Of course it hurts. You were so handsome before. Now your perfect face is ruined."His pitiful expression froze."Is my face the only thing you like?"What kind of question is that?I kept cleaning his wound."Don't you like me for my looks too? Don't tell me you love me for my personality. Please. I treated you terribly."I may have my flaws, but I'm gorgeous. No one can compete with this face.Surely that makes up for my bad temper. He shook his head."I love you for who you are. You're a good person. You saved me."My hand froze, the cotton swab still hovering near his lips.I quickly covered my embarrassment with a joke. "So this is your way of repaying me? By offer
