Chapter 2

Author: Invincible Pop
I looked at her calmly. "Let's do it, Lauren. Let's cancel the engagement for real this time."

Lauren stared at me in shock. Then, she seemed to remember something and snorted coldly. "Did you forget the last time you tried to leave? You couldn't even last a day before you came back crying and begging me to forgive you.

"What's your plan this time? Same thing? How long will it last? One day? Three days? Don't come crawling back again, crying and begging me like a child!"

I ignored her and walked out without looking back. This time, I held out longer than ever. A whole week passed, and I never once went to see her.

Even when she kept indulging Gregory, provoking me just like before—sending me little updates of their sweet moments together—I still didn't go to her.

The comments were relentless. They were all standing up for Lauren.

"Cameron, do you have any idea how much Lauren misses you? She's been abusing alcohol and has already drunk herself into stomach bleeding!"

"She actually hates Gregory. She only acts close to him to make you jealous!"

Even when being advised by those with an omniscient perspective, I still refused to believe she would get that upset over me.

I still remembered the day of the school anniversary ceremony. Lauren stood on stage as the freshman representative, giving her speech. She shone so brightly that even the spotlight seemed dull beside her.

I fell for her at first sight. So, I gathered all my courage and handed her a love letter. She read it out loud in front of everyone and let the whole crowd laugh at me.

Then, she casually tossed the letter into the trash.

From that day on, I was always the one beneath her. She had no interest in me, so she rejected me time after time. Still, I shamelessly pursued her. Even when she constantly compared me to Gregory, I never resented her.

At last, Lauren agreed to be with me. Even then, she remained distant. I always thought our relationship existed only because I forced it. Thus, I was careful about everything, never daring to go against her.

Now that I knew the truth, I suddenly felt like a complete joke.

I thought we would finally go our separate ways, but Lauren suddenly came looking for me. "Even though our engagement is off, our parents are still out of the loop. Don't you think we should talk to them?"

Honestly, I didn't want anything more to do with her, but Mr. and Mrs. Sink had always been nice to me, so I thought I owed them an explanation.

To my surprise, Lauren didn't take me back to her family home. Instead, she brought me to an event hall. My heart skipped a beat because this was the place I had personally chosen for our wedding.

The decorations for the ceremony, the design of the stage, and even the dishes for the wedding reception had all been my choices. However, since Lauren kept breaking off our engagement, the venue reservation had been canceled just as many times.

Now, ironically, it was filled with guests—relatives and friends of hers were there, along with many big names from the business world and a few media outlets she had invited.

Why did Lauren bring me here? What was with the crowd? Was she planning to marry me today? Had she finally learned how to love me?

I watched as she walked toward me step by step. My heart pounded wildly in my chest. I even started persuading myself that as long as she treated me well from now on, I would forgive her.

Lauren came closer by the second. Just as I was about to reach out, she walked straight past me and took Gregory's hand instead.

At that moment, my heart seemed to stop. The pain was so sharp I could hardly breathe.

Lauren didn't spare me a single glance. She interlocked her fingers with Gregory's and walked up to the stage under everyone's gaze.

She picked up the microphone and announced solemnly to the crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my and Gregory's engagement ceremony. Thank you all for coming to witness our love."

Then, she took out a ring and proposed to him with deep affection in her eyes. "Greg, will you spend the rest of your life with me?"

He nodded excitedly. "Of course!"

Instead, all Lauren received was my farewell letter. It was brief but cold."Dear Lauren, you tricked me once, so I'm returning the favor. Goodbye forever. Don't look for me or think of me. "Sincerely, Cameron."When she read it, her anger and heartbreak overwhelmed her. She coughed up blood and collapsed on the spot. At that moment, she finally understood what it meant to be given hope, only to be left in despair.…As for me, I erased every trace of myself from San Havilon and removed all contacts. Once on the plane, a sense of finality washed over me. "Goodbye, Lauren."I settled in a small town in Euravia and opened an art gallery. Life there was serene, peaceful, and beautiful. One day, out of nowhere, the live comments reappeared before my eyes."Cameron, how could you be so heartless? Lauren almost ended her life because you left!""To look for you, Lauren used all the connections she had, tirelessly trying to track you down. She pushed herself to the brink, collapsed,

"But because I was too insecure, and because I feared you'd stop loving me due to my indifference, I kept pushing you away. I used all the ways to hurt you just so I could test you…" Lauren confessed."I don't know why either, but ever since I met you, I have become twisted. I'm sensitive, moody, suspicious, and unpredictable, all because I love you too much…"Suddenly, she knelt before me. "Cameron, from now on, I'll put away my pride and humbly ask you to stay. Please give me this chance, will you?"Instead of answering, I closed my eyes in pain. Lauren was startled and quickly came up to me. "What's the matter, Cam?"She pulled back the blanket and saw fresh blood oozing from my wounds. The sight pierced her heart, and panic flooded her face. Tears streamed down as she feared losing me.Overwhelmed by guilt, she slapped herself across the face. "I deserve nothing but the worst! This is all my fault, Cam!"In the end, Lauren called the doctor and made sure I received the best m

I closed my eyes, refusing to look at Gregory.Afraid he would provoke me, Lauren slapped him hard. "Enough! I already told you you're nothing more than a tool! I never had any real feelings for you!"With that, she ordered the men to drag him away immediately.Gregory continued screaming, refusing to accept reality. It wasn't until the whip lashed against his skin that he finally realized the truth. While Lauren was focused entirely on me, he had no place in her heart. She kept pleading for my forgiveness, even going as far as to book ten of the most luxurious wedding venues in front of me and letting me choose whichever I wanted.I refused to acknowledge her. Her eyes turned red, and a single tear fell onto my hand. "Cam, tell me, what will it take for you to forgive me?"I stared at her and coldly answered, "The truth is… I forgave you a few days ago. I already knew your secret. That room? I opened it. I saw everything inside."I really wanted to leave you, but you brought me

If Lauren hadn't put on a grand show and proposed to Gregory, giving his confidence an ultimate boost, and if she had arrived earlier and pulled me into her arms, would the ending have been different?Just then, the doors of the emergency room suddenly opened. "The patient's hemorrhaging! We need blood immediately!"Lauren rushed forward at once. "I can give him blood. Please, you have to save him…"The sight of my pale face only broke her heart more. As more blood was drawn, she began to feel dizzy and weak. The doctor advised her to stop, but she insisted they continue."Don't worry about me," she said. "As long as we can save him, you can take as much as you need…"After three days in a coma, I finally woke up. The pain from my injuries was unbearable, every movement sending waves of agony through my body.Lauren had stayed by my side the whole time. When she saw how much pain I was in, her eyes filled with sadness. She picked up the pain medicine and carefully fed it to me. "

Before I could say more, a whip, drenched in salt water, fell heavily against my body. I let out a sharp groan from the excruciating pain. They ignored my suffering and whipped me a second time.Agony exploded across my skin, and my body was soon covered in blood. I tried to escape, but they held me back and resumed the dreadful punishment. Not one person in the hall showed sympathy at all. Instead, they laughed at the sorry state I was in.I glared at them with all the strength I had left and said slowly, "If Lauren finds out about this, she won't let any of you off!"They reacted as if they had just heard the funniest joke in the world. "What nonsense are you talking about? Everyone knows Ms. Sink hates you to the core. If she saw you like this, she'd probably clap her hands like a seal!""That's right. Ms. Sink loves Gregory. She even gave him the most luxurious engagement ceremony ever. Who do you think you are?""She's the elite of the elites. How could she possibly be inter

I jumped back in shock, still trying to process what had just happened. The next thing I knew, Lauren suddenly appeared and shoved me. She then helped Gregory up to his feet, glaring at me with fury."Did you just push him?" she questioned me.I shook my head frantically. "I didn't! He fell on purpose! He's trying to set me up!"However, Gregory, wincing in pain, insisted it was my fault. "He pushed me, Lauren… He's jealous that you've given me your wedding venue, so he tried to hurt me…"I opened my mouth to explain again, but Lauren slapped me sharply. "I've heard enough! There's no one else around but you. You're jealous of my relationship with Greg, so you pushed him and tried to kill him!"I know you've always been jealous, but I never expected you'd be so cruel! If anything happened to Greg, I'd never forgive you, Cameron!"Then, in a voice sharp as steel, she ordered the staff, "Lock him up in the cold storage. That should give him a lesson."I covered my face, staring at
