Chapter 5

Author: Tutu
Sophie and Lily were the only two in the practice room.

Lily was playing the piano so aggressively that it produced an unpleasant buzzing sound. Stomping her foot as she stood up, she hurled a thick chunk of piano sheet music at Sophie.

"Your rhythm's off again! Are you sure you're as good a dancer as they say?"

Sophie hissed in pain and covered her bruised forehead.

She gave Lily a cold stare. "That's it! I've had enough of you!"

Lily wasn't actually complaining about Sophie's rhythm, but about her irregular movements. She would even accuse Sophie of being lazy if the latter needed to drink some water during breaks.

What was worse, Lily would sometimes whip Sophie with a cane on purpose.

One day, Lily deliberately threw away the warm water Sophie had brought in a thermos while Sophie was on her period.

When Lily saw that Sophie was in pain, she fetched a bucket of cold water from the washroom and poured it all over her.

Gleefully, Lily claimed she was only trying to help Sophie stay awake.

Now, Lily didn't seem affected by Sophie's retort. In fact, she seemed to take pride in what she had done, leaning in closer to Sophie.

Blinking her eyes like an innocent girl, she asked, "What's the matter? Are you angry at me?"

Sophie sneered and pushed her away. "You're not actually as good a pianist as they say, are you?"

Sophie had known from the moment she agreed to be Lily's dance partner that things would be difficult. Thus, she had memorized the piano sheet music and its rhythm by heart.

She had also watched many of Lily's performances in past competitions to study her playstyle.

In truth, Lily's rhythm had been far more sluggish and inelegant in recent days compared to her usual performances.

Sophie's rhythm wasn't off—Lily's was.

"Don't you dare blame me when you're the one who's dancing terribly!"

Lily pretended to be calm, but the brief change in her expression betrayed her.

'It's true I had someone else perform for me during my competitions, but I've been very careful. There's no way she knows about that!' Lily thought.

William could sense the tension as soon as he entered the practice room. "What's the matter?"

He seemed concerned when he saw that Lily was in a bad mood and quickly approached her. "Are you okay? You don't look so good."

Lily's heart raced. She was terrified that Sophie would expose her actions, and her hands were shaking uncontrollably.

Suppressing her anxiety, she noticed how worried William seemed and forced out some tears to appear pitiful.

"I'm okay. Sophie accused me of not being a good pianist because she can't keep up with the rhythm. I threw my piano sheet at her because I was so angry…" she replied. "You don't think it's my fault, do you?"

As expected, William noticed the bruise on Sophie's head and seemed sorry for her.

As he reached out to caress the bruise, he suddenly recalled Sophie's accusation and slowly retracted his hand.

Seeing this, Lily covered her face and made herself appear even more miserable.

Through sobs, she said, "I couldn't stand her accusing me of something so outrageous… Do you have any idea how much I had to suffer, learning to play the piano properly over the past five years away from home?

"I know Sophie dislikes me, but being a pianist is all I've got. I can't let her take that away from me."

William frowned and began to scold Sophie. "You shouldn't have said that to her, Sophie. I know Lily can be straightforward, but there's no way she would pretend to be a good pianist."

Lily froze for a moment upon hearing this but awkwardly laughed it off.

Meanwhile, Sophie sneered, wondering if William would still defend Lily if he knew her piano skills were nowhere near as impressive as they had been during her competition performances.

She looked at Lily with a smirk. "Is that so?"

Sensing the threat in Sophie's tone, Lily clenched her fists and shot her a dangerous glare.

Yet William remained oblivious to the change in Lily's expression.

'I've spent so many years reaching this point to gain Father and Mother's approval. I won't let Sophie ruin it all! I won't!'

At that moment, an idea sparked in Lily's mind.

Sophie was still in shock as she looked at the tourist guide Elliot had prepared for their trip. "So… Did you plan all of this from the start?"Elliot rubbed her head. "I wouldn't put it that way. I only started making plans after you told me you wanted to go on a trip.""What about the guests? And Mom?"Sophie suddenly seemed worried, but Elliot merely smiled and took her into his arms. "They've given us their full support. Plus, they think it's about time we took a trip to relax."Elliot had begun studying the Locke family's business the very day he brought Sophie home. He then altered the nature of his business to attract their clients, ensuring that William would no longer be able to harm Sophie. When Sophie mentioned wanting to go on a trip for their wedding, Elliot deliberately arranged a fake wedding to stall William. The next few days of their lives would forever be unforgettable for Sophie. They walked along Vyrka's streets, stepping over fallen leaves and strolling und

The peaceful, cozy atmosphere was abruptly shattered by the doorbell.William stormed into the house before Sophie's butler could stop him."William! I've had enough of you!" Sophie snapped, her irritation rising sharply. She couldn't understand why William was acting this way.In the past, he had always seemed indifferent when they were together, and now, his behavior made no sense. She was already disgusted by William's pretense of being deeply in love with her, a notion Ariana had pushed so fervently."I only sided with Lily because I felt I owed it to her. You've been the only woman in my heart from day one. I was already planning to marry you after Lily won her competition!"I didn't know she'd be so cruel and try to kill you! I know I've made countless mistakes and hurt you badly, but I promise, I'll love and care for you, only you, for the rest of my life."As he poured his heart out, William took out the photos they had taken together, the piece of ceramic they had made

William knew that Sophie would listen most attentively to Julia.Julia had worked hard to become successful overseas before returning to the Queen family. When Ariana and Julia opened the door and saw William, neither of them seemed particularly pleased or welcoming.Ariana had always been straightforward, never one to mince words, nor was she known for her temper. "We weren't expecting you, O'great William Locke. What are your orders, hmm?"Previously, she had reluctantly tolerated William because Sophie loved him. But now, she felt free to speak her mind.William paused for a moment before presenting the luxurious gifts he had brought with him. With a surprisingly humble attitude, he said, "Please, could you help me persuade Sophie to give me another chance?"Ariana recalled the time when Elliot had told them that Sophie had nearly died. Not only had William refused to save her, but he had even kicked her aside to get her out of the way.The memory filled Ariana with such fur

William would follow them to the bridal shop and rush to buy the moment Sophie decided on a wedding gown.During their rehearsals at the wedding venue, William would purposely disrupt the procedure. Moreover, he would deliberately sit between Sophie and Elliot during their afternoon tea.Sophie didn't mind William following them, but she grew impatient at the thought that Elliot might be upset."What do you want, William?"When she finally spoke to him, William's eyes brightened, and he straightened up excitedly. "I know it was my fault for choosing to take Lily's side in the past, but that won't happen anymore."He went on to explain how he had punished Lily. "Lily tricked me before, but now I see things clearly. I know you're the most important person to me and the only one who's treated me well."Annoyed, Sophie cut in, "So you think Lily's the only one at fault?"William was taken aback by her question. As he gazed at Sophie's disappointed expression, confusion crept in.'

Elliot could feel the sweat on Sophie's palm, so he silently grasped her hand, holding it tightly as if to offer her courage.Sophie took a deep breath, looked at William, and said firmly, "I don't love you anymore, William. And I'm getting married soon."As if he'd just heard a joke, William stepped forward and reached for Sophie's hand, but she shook him off sharply. With a cold gaze, she continued. "I can't stand being compared to someone else, and I can't stand being treated like a second choice after being abandoned time and time again when I was with you."I lived in constant fear before, all because of the rumors—not just from the Lockes, but from the public as well. And all you did was turn your back and watch it all happen."William was at a loss for words, his expression falling as his mind swirled in turmoil. After all, Sophie was speaking the truth.Sophie took a deep breath, perhaps forcing herself not to shout, and stared at him. "I spent five years trying to follow
