It's all my fault."Yvonne cried harder. "Do you know how scared I was this afternoon? I kept hoping you would show up and tell me that everything was okay, that you were here. But you never came."Nancy stepped forward and bent down despite the pain, wiping the tears from Yvonne's face. Every single word she spoke dripped with guilt."I tried to find you, sweetheart. I really did. But I couldn't walk properly with my leg like this, and I—"Yvonne cut her off. "But why did it t

By the time Christian carried Yvonne into the bedroom, she had woken up. She still rested against his shoulder as Talia followed behind them. When Yvonne opened her eyes and saw her mother, Talia smiled gently. "Let's get you cleaned up before bed, okay?"Yvonne was still groggy from sleep. Seeing Talia here at Jubilee Manor threw her off. She wasn't sure whether to acknowledge Talia. But then the memories came flooding back, and Yvonne nodded. "Okay."After Christian set Yvonne down, Talia steadied her daughter. Yvonne's clothes were filthy, so Talia planned to undress her before the bath.Christian hadn't left the room yet, so Talia turned to face him and said, "She's getting older now. You should probably step out while I help her change."Realization crossed Christian's face. "You're right. I'll go."The thought hit him suddenly. Yvonne was still too young to understand these boundaries on her own. He needed to help her learn them.In that moment, Christian realized Talia wa

Talia turned her head, watching Christian and Quentin through the window.Christian approached Quentin without any hint of aggression, simply holding his umbrella in the rain. His black coat blended into the gathering darkness. After a long silence, Christian raised the umbrella slightly higher. His dark eyes fixed on Quentin, but he didn't speak.Quentin shifted uncomfortably under the scrutiny. "What are you looking at?"Christian's question came out of nowhere. "How did you do it?"Quentin blinked in surprise, then barked out a laugh. "What's this? Looking for tips from your competition?"Christian couldn't stand that smug expression. His face went cold. "Forget it. Never mind."He turned to head back to the car. But then Quentin called out behind him. "Christian."Christian stopped in spite of himsel

Christian stood, still holding Yvonne's hand, and repositioned the umbrella over Talia's head. His voice came out hoarse as he said, "It's over. She's safe."Talia looked at him. The resentment in her eyes hadn't diminished one bit despite finding Yvonne safe. She said nothing, choosing silence instead.Lionel arrived shortly after. Seeing that Yvonne had been found, he finally allowed himself to relax. After a moment's consideration, he walked over to Christian."Mr. Lane," Lionel greeted him respectfully.Yvonne stood beside Christian, holding his hand. Talia remained under the umbrella, her gaze unconsciously searching for Quentin. He stood beneath a tree, watching them. Across the rain-soaked street, their gazes locked.Quentin wore a smile tinged with pride. She knew exactly what he was thinking. He wanted credit for finding Yvonne.Beside her, Christian was saying something to Lionel, but Talia didn't catch a single word. She only vaguely sensed their conversation was comi

In this moment, it felt like she had her daughter back.Yvonne kept wiping at the tears, her voice soft. "Don't cry, Mommy. You don't look pretty when you cry."Talia nodded through her sobs. "Okay. I won't cry anymore."Quentin stood nearby, watching the reunion unfold. His heart ached for Talia. The rain showed no signs of stopping. Even though it wasn't heavy, it still soaked them all.
