Chapter 8

Jeremy could hardly believe his ears.

He had spent an entire year preparing for that financial audit, hiring the country’s most experienced financial officer to oversee the company’s finances. He had even stayed up countless nights, ensuring that every document and report required for the audit was flawless.

He thought he had left nothing to chance before taking Whitney on their island getaway. Yet somehow, the audit failed.

After hanging up the phone, he immediately booked the earliest flight back.

Whitney frowned, concerned. “Jeremy, I haven’t fully recovered yet. Why are we in such a rush?”

“Whitney, we have to go back right away. There’s a problem with the company audit.”

As soon as the plane landed, Jeremy rushed to the office like a storm. Everyone inside looked dazed and stunned.

“Explain to me!” Jeremy demanded, his voice sharp. “Why did the financial audit fail? I’ve prepared all the materials. I was gone only a few days, and now this huge mess appears?”
