Chapter 6

Author: Golden Chirp
Lauren couldn’t accept the fact that she had been treated as a substitute for seven years.

She grabbed a chair in the shop and smashed it onto the floor.

“You really are a heartless man. You’re so good at pretending!”

Her eyes were red as she hurled insults while destroying the furniture.

“Seven years! When you looked at me, were you always seeing her through me?”

I smiled but said nothing, deliberately fixing her with a calculated, piercing gaze.

I intended to make her wrestle with it for the rest of her life.

I shielded Kendra behind me and called the local police.

Lauren ended up at the station.

She had only destroyed a few tables and chairs, and hardly any customers were frightened off.

The incident wasn’t serious enough for a conviction, but it was enough to earn the cycling club’s disapproval.

By the time I finished giving my statement, it was afternoon.

We couldn’t make it to the botanical garden, so Kendra suggested we stroll through the Hightide University campu

When I looked up Sean’s Instagram account again, I realized he had already deleted it.Driven by curiosity, I called Wanda to get the full story. That’s when I learned that after Lauren became an influencer, she continued to offload all trivial matters onto Sean. After she got banned from cycling, Sean disappeared with her money. The funds had been under his name all along, and Lauren had no recourse.Later, I ran into her unexpectedly at a hospital in the neighboring city while visiting a friend. She emerged from the gynecology clinic and bumped into me.My eyes caught a medical consent form for an abortion lying on the floor.“Watch where you’re going!” she exclaimed, hastily picking up the paper. Only then did she notice it was me.A scar marred her face, a souvenir from a dangerous cycling stunt gone wrong with Sean. This time, she offered no ridicule, only panicked fluster, covering her face as she fled. The last I heard of Lauren and Sean was when I opened my sec

The scandal over renowned road cyclist Lauren Geller taking performance-enhancing drugs spread like wildfire.Overnight, the cycling club terminated her contract, and all her commercial partnerships demanded compensation for breach.I received a call from Wanda while rowing with Kendra on the little river in the botanical garden.“I’m so grateful to you. Without your guidance, I wouldn’t have claimed this championship,” Wanda’s voice trembled with excitement over the phone.I smiled faintly.“It was nothing. Those materials were ones I accumulated over time. You have talent, so it’s not as if my work went to waste.”The training plans I had once customized for Lauren had received praise from the cycling club’s professional staff.Back when we divorced, I had repurposed all of them for Wanda.Sean’s private account was updated constantly with Lauren’s indulgences in food, drink, and leisure. She neither trained nor restrained herself; a decline in her results was inevitable.

  • When The Ride Ended   Chapter 5

Lauren returned to the shop after more than a month. This time, she brought Sean and a few teammates, all clad in tight cycling gear with helmets, drawing every eye.In the past month, my little shop had exploded in business, even making a feature on a local news channel. After all, I had once been one of the country’s top bakers. Seven years ago, when I returned home for love, the entire baking community had sighed in regret. Many of my students had cried and swore they would kick my wife to the curb. Not long after opening, industry insiders recognized me. My shop quickly gained fame, with lines forming day and night.I had trained a few apprentices, and now, with a little free time, I often stayed in the shop experimenting with recipes. When Sean saw me, he laughed loudly.“Look, I know you’re still reeling from what happened with Lauren, but you didn’t need to open a shop on her training route. “Do you think hovering around her every day will make her change her mind?

At court the next day, Lauren threw the divorce certificate at me.“I see you endured years of hardship with me and didn’t fight over everything. “It is not easy to remarry at your age. If no one wants you, remember to come find me.“I’ll introduce you to some cycling friends.”Her petty triumph was on full display.Sean stood beside her, holding a bouquet of tulips and grinning.“You’re such a good guy, bro. “Can’t you just find someone else to cook for? “Plenty of women still need a man at home to handle their meals. “It’s not very common that someone as independent as Lauren likes a man like me.”He handed Lauren the flowers.“May your suffering be carried away by the lovely fragrance of these flowers.”I ignored the pair of fools and walked a few steps away, just as Lauren’s manager, Hank Casper, called.“Owen! Lauren performed well this time, but we noticed she’s rapidly gaining weight. “You need to keep an eye on her, or her next competition could be at risk.”

  • When The Ride Ended   Chapter 3

“Owen? Are you awake?”My phone showed 1 a.m., and Lauren was quietly calling me from outside the door.I didn’t respond. Assuming I was asleep, she turned toward the sofa.I pulled out my phone and checked the surveillance app.In the living room, Sean had wrapped his arms around Lauren. She bent down to kiss him, and they collapsed onto the sofa. They were like two wild dogs. Absolutely disgusting. After my cat, Nugget, had a bout of indigestion six months ago, I installed a hidden camera in the living room to keep an eye on him.Lauren never liked hearing about trivial things, so I hadn’t told her.Two months ago, I had casually reviewed the footage and discovered her kissing Sean in our home, on the very rug I had personally chosen.I hadn’t slept a wink that night. I traced the timeline of their relationship.Three months. They had been doing all this behind my back while I went out for groceries, cooked, or delivered their bikes for cleaning.I felt no sadnes
