Chapter 2

Author: Peach
I smiled bitterly and was about to walk out when Vincent stopped me.

"Daisy, Fiona's birthday wish is to go see the Northern Lights with me. Give her your couple's trip instead."

I froze.

Ever since I bonded with Vincent, I had always dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights.

But he was always busy, saying he had pack matters to handle, or that he had to take care of my sickly younger sister.

I made plans over and over again, but they always fell through.

Last month, I finally won a couple's travel package. For the first time, he said he would make time.

And now, he was asking me to give it up.

Vincent stood in front of Fiona, his brow tightly furrowed, like he was ready to stop me if I tried to hurt her.

My ears rang. It took me a long moment to find my voice. I forced out a single word.

"Okay."

He looked like he hadn't heard me right.

My tone stayed calm. I spoke slowly and clearly.

"I said yes. I'll give it all to her."

As soon as I finished, Vincent looked surprised. But before he could respond, I heard small clapping.

Cecilia smiled as she clapped her hands.

"Yay! Aunt Fiona's not feeling well, and Mommy finally understands she should give way more!"

I just looked at my mate and our six-year-old daughter.

For six years after bonding with Vincent, I handled his pack affairs and took care of everything at home.

Even when he clearly favored my sister, I still accepted it.

When I gave birth to Cecilia, I almost died from heavy bleeding.

And in the end, they all chose another woman over me.

But it didn't matter anymore.

If Fiona wanted it, then I would give it to her.

Vincent took out a pen and watched closely as I signed the agreement giving up the trip. Only then did he relax.

"Daisy, you've really grown up. I admit I used to favor Fiona, but she's a human with a short lifespan. After everything is over, I'll come back to you."

Cecilia nodded and puffed her cheeks as she looked at me.

"Mommy, Daddy and I love you too. Aunt Fiona only takes up a small part of our time. After she dies, our long lives will all belong to you."

My parents nodded in agreement.

They didn't even bother speaking to me anymore. They turned back to Fiona, surrounding her like she was a princess everyone revolved around.

I lowered my eyes. I felt completely numb inside.

At that moment, I stopped expecting anything from them.

I was walking toward death anyway.

But I still underestimated what my body could handle.

I took a couple of steps forward, and my heart felt like it was being crushed.

Deep inside, my wolf screamed in pain.

I collapsed right at the hospital room door.

The last thing I saw before blacking out was Vincent's panicked face.

When I opened my eyes again, I was still on the floor outside the room.

I forced myself to sit up, only to realize everyone had left.

Most of the room had already been cleared out.

I grabbed a healer and asked what happened, and that's when I found out Fiona had already been discharged.

I sat on the ground, completely lost.

That was when Vincent and Cecilia stepped out from a corner, both of them looking disappointed.

Cecilia sighed and spoke like a little adult.

"Dad, do you feel better now? I told you Mom was faking it. That was so childish. You made us miss Aunt Fiona's discharge. Good thing Grandpa and Grandma were there."

Faking it?

Vincent frowned at me.

"Daisy, I thought you'd outgrown this kind of behavior. I didn't think you'd go back to pulling tricks like this. You just want to test whether I still love you, don't you? You could've just asked. You didn't need to go this far."

I pursed my lips. In the end, I forced myself to stand and nodded.

"Sorry. I was just really tired."

No one responded.

The two of them held hands and went home to celebrate Fiona's birthday.

I dragged my weak body to the street and finally managed to get a taxi.

By the time I got home, I was completely drained.

I didn't have the strength for anything else. I fell onto the bed and fell asleep.

I didn't wake up until the next day when laughter from downstairs pulled me out of it.

I walked down the stairs in a daze and heard Cecilia's clear, childish voice.

"I like Aunt Fiona more than Daisy. I want her to be my mom."

Vincent released his grip and let Fiona go.She collapsed onto the floor, tears spilling from her eyes as she coughed and gasped for air.Cecilia walked in obediently. She reached out and gently touched Vincent's hand, her voice trembling."You all said... Mom is dead. This time, she's not just throwing a tantrum, right?"I floated above them, watching Cecilia cry uncontrollably. For a moment, I felt dazed.Children were easily influenced by adults. To fit in, Cecilia naturally followed the side her father chose. But she was still just a child who needed protection. She didn't understand favoritism or betrayal. She only knew that the adults said Fiona was good and that her mother was unreasonable, so she repeated what she heard. Her tears were real.I drifted down and knelt in front of her, reaching out to wipe her tears. But my fingers passed right through her face. I couldn't touch her at all.I had forgotten that I was already dead.Cecilia suddenly looked up and glance

Samantha's face twisted with grief and rage. She looked completely broken."We treated you like family. Why would you do this to us? Daisy is my real daughter. She's your sister!"The slap knocked Fiona's head to the side. Her hair fell loose around her face, and a bright red handprint marked her left cheek.A moment later, she looked at the outraged family in front of her and suddenly laughed."Don't act so noble. You were the ones who pushed her to her death!"George stood frozen. He stared at her like he was seeing her for the first time.Fiona grabbed her hair, her voice rising into a scream."I was jealous, okay? I admit it. Why did she get to grow up with parents when I didn't even know who mine were? Why did she get to be your precious daughter? She should've died! Everything she had, her parents, her mate, her child, her talent, it was supposed to be mine!"Samantha suddenly lunged forward and grabbed her collar."You're insane. You're completely insane, you wretch!"

Samantha froze. She looked at Vincent and asked stiffly, "What do you mean?"Vincent pointed at the panicked Fiona behind her and revealed the truth, his voice steady and merciless."She is not the daughter of your savior. The real Fiona died a long time ago. That girl is just a sickly girl from the orphanage. She stole Fiona's identity to survive. And that scratch back then happened because Daisy found out the truth. This girl staged the whole thing to gain your trust!"They all stood there, stunned.Samantha stepped back. Bottles and jars on the table fell to the floor with a crash. Her voice finally came out, strained."Did Daisy say this? Where is she? I want to see her."Vincent closed his eyes, exhausted."She's dead."Fiona immediately clutched her chest again, trying to play weak and get through the situation. But for the first time, my parents, who had always put her first, stepped forward.Their voices were rough."What? Dead? That's impossible. Did she even get

They were all sitting together like a happy family.Fiona had just been discharged from the hospital and was lazily leaning on the couch. Samantha had carefully placed a soft, furry blanket over her.George had gone out hunting and brought back fresh rabbit meat. The kitchen was filled with the smell of cooking. Then Vincent broke in and shattered the calm.He stared at Samantha. His voice was rough, like it had been scraped raw."All these years... did you ever believe Daisy?"Samantha blinked, then answered like it was obvious."No."George spoke next."She lies all the time. Why would we believe her?"Then he frowned."Vincent, why did you push Fiona at the hospital? Don't you know she's weak? You could have hurt her."Vincent suddenly laughed. His eyes were bloodshot, and the laugh kept growing louder."With parents like you, no wonder she was depressed."Samantha's anger flared instantly like fire."Parents like us? What's that supposed to mean? When Fiona first ca

My soul floated above the room as I watched the scene unfold.Vincent's shoulders were shaking hard. He let out a sound like a wounded animal. Even his wolf was crying over the death of its Luna.I didn't know how long had passed before Vivian's voice broke the silence from the doorway."Do you even want to know how she died?"Vincent lifted his head. His eyes were bloodshot, like they were about to bleed.Vivian walked in holding a sheet of paper. It was a healer's report."Soul Decay Syndrome. Three days ago, the healer already said she was at the end."Vincent froze.Soul Decay Syndrome? Then he remembered.I had told him. I told him I had Soul Decay Syndrome, and only Sacred Spring Water could save me.He had pushed me away, rubbing his brow in irritation."Daisy, stop using these stupid tricks to get my attention."After that, he turned around and gave the Sacred Spring Water to Fiona, who he said needed "recovery."Vivian wiped her tears and looked at him coldly."

Vincent's phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor. The screen cracked. His hands shook as he picked it up."How is that possible? How could Daisy die? She's just acting out again, right? This time she even got you involved, just to prove that I love her."Vivian stayed silent."She's already gone. Why are you still trying to analyze her?"Vincent stood in the hallway, surrounded by white hospital walls and the smell of herbs. Then Fiona's soft voice came from the room."Vincent, are you outside? I'm a little scared."If this had been before, he would have walked in right away. He would have opened the door, pulled Fiona into his arms, and gently patted her back. And I would have been standing outside, quietly turning away.He knew something about that was wrong.
