Chapter 2

Author: White Sand
I kept thinking about what Yvonne had said.

She had wondered how long it would take to replace me, but she already had.

I was too upset to speak or defend myself.

Yvonne tried to stand up while repeatedly apologizing to me. "I'm so sorry, Summer. I didn't know the brothers celebrating my birthday would upset you so much. It's all my fault. I'll leave this house if you want, but please don't be mad at me anymore, and don't upset the brothers."

Then, she started to crawl out of the room.

The Sullivan brothers' expressions were a mix of disgust and shock, and their eyes blazed with anger as they looked at me.

I shivered and tried to speak, but their sharp glares filled me with a cold loneliness. I knew that no matter what I said, they would not believe me.

It was almost midnight, but the large villa was alive with activity.

The best medical team in the city was inside, all of them meticulously checking on Yvonne's condition, while the Sullivan brothers stood by her, tense and worried.

I was nearby, my head hurting so much that it felt like it was being split in two. A sharp pain swirled around my brain, making it hard to stand.

Biting back the pain, I walked up to a renowned neurologist. "Doctor, my head... It hurts."

"Summer, can't you see what's happening? These doctors are here for Yvonne. Don't make things harder for them!

"We had to call all these experts out here in the middle of the night because of the mess you made!" Ethan said, his voice full of blame. When I did not move, he grabbed my arm, pushed me into my room, and locked the door firmly.

The pain was so bad I could hardly walk. I crawled to my nightstand, grabbed a handful of painkillers, chewed them up, and swallowed them down. The bitterness filled my mouth and my heart.

After my parents died in a car crash, my grandparents and I moved to this city and became neighbors with the Sullivan brothers.

They were a few years older than me and took me under their wing, always looking out for me.

After my grandparents grew old and passed away, they stepped up to look after me.

I was nineteen at the time. They combined and remodeled our two houses into one big home, and things were perfect.

We were a tight-knit group of four, the closest I could imagine, until Yvonne showed up and changed everything.

It was just like any other day when Yvonne collapsed at our front door. She was so skinny and looked so sad that I could not help but bring her inside.

From the moment the Sullivan brothers saw her, they forgot all about me. Day after day, they showered her with love and attention.

It was as though she had appeared out of thin air just to steal the brothers' hearts.

After taking some pain medication, I tried to get up and go to bed, but the door suddenly flew open with a loud bang.

Nelson and Jasper stormed in, furious, and threw a bunch of papers at me.

I was still in shock when they yelled at me.

"How could you be so jealous that you hurt Yvonne when we weren't around?

"You've bullied Yvonne into a depression! Summer, I never knew you were so mean!"

"You knew Summer was sick all along! The medicine you threw into the fountain right in front of us was Summer's special medication! Yvonne, we were so nice to you! They grabbed the papers and started reading. With every page, they looked more and more upset.By the end, they were shaking like leaves. They might not have thought their actions were a big deal at the time, but seeing everything written down made them finally understand how much they had hurt me.I just watched them, feeling a mix of coldness and amusement at their regrets, which were now too late. They did not care when things were good, so who were they feeling sorry for?I tried to wheel myself away. However, Yvonne, who was on the ground nearby, jumped up and came at me, screaming, "You were supposed to have a tumor in your brain! Why aren't you dead yet?"Why do you have to take my brothers away from me? I worked so hard to get them to

Yvonne dashed up to the brothers, her eyes wide with worry. "Where have you guys been all this time?"I've been so worried! Is Summer back? Where is she?"I know she's mad because you guys are nice to me, but leaving home without even a goodbye is just not cool. Still, please don't be mad at her."The three brothers did not look as upset as they usually would. Instead, they seemed kind of mad.Yvonne felt nervous and tried to look extra sweet. "But you know, Summer's been sick, so I guess it's okay if she's a bit grumpy."Ethan's face turned stormy, and he grabbed Yvonne's collar roughly. "How did you find out Summer's sick? What did you do to her?"Yvonne's face twisted for a second before she tried to look sad and sorry again. "Ethan, I only just found out myself. A friend of mine from school is working at the hospital, and she told me Summer's got a tumor in her head!"The brothers looked at each other, and without a word, Nelson quickly booked an extra plane ticket.Jasper

The bodyguards had made a mess of the three men trying to wriggle into my room.Their ruckus caught the attention of everyone nearby, and lots of people came out to watch.I kept my face cool and said, "Let them in."The bodyguards stopped and let go.Jasper shot the bodyguards a fierce look. "We're the Sullivans, and one of us might marry Summer someday. You’d better watch out, or you might lose your jobs!"I heard him and laughed, but I was really mad. "Acting all high and mighty in front of my hospital room? I don't even know you guys. Why would I marry any one of you?"Nelson ran up to me, trying to grab my hand, but I pulled away. His eyes were red, as if he had been crying a lot. "Summer, I talked to the doctor. He said you might have lost your memory because of the surgery."It's okay. If you forgot us, we'll make new, happy memories together. It'll be our way of making things right, okay?"Ethan pushed his way forward, tears streaming down his face. "I won't make cloth

Nelson's face turned serious, and he stood up and left quickly.Ethan and Jasper knew they had to hurry to the airport. They needed to be with Summer to help her go through this tough time and make things right with her!…I woke up on the third day after my surgery. My aunt was right there with me, dressed in a sterile gown. When she saw me open my eyes, she started crying. "Summer, are you in pain?"I smiled a little. "If I’m still alive, then it can’t be that bad!”Aunt laughed and said, "Summer, you're going to live a very long life!"The surgery had gone really well. The doctor said I might lose some memories, but I still recognized everyone I had seen so far.Even though I sometimes felt like I had forgotten some things, I did not really want to remember them anyway. In fact, I thought forgetting might make me even happier.Once I was out of danger, I moved to a regular room. With Aunt looking after me, I started feeling better really fast.I was getting bored of stayi

The surgery was underway.Outside, Aunt paced back and forth, her nerves frayed. Summer's phone would not stop ringing, each buzz like an annoying bee in her ear. Finally, she could not take it anymore and answered the call from the Sullivan brothers. She ripped them a new one."Enough with the calls! Leave my niece alone! She grew up with you, yet you nearly killed her out of your own selfishness! How dare you even think of calling her!"If you have any shred of decency, you'd spend every day making amends for what you’ve done!"With that, Aunt hung up.The brothers on the other end were stunned, their faces a canvas of fear.Ethan's face went white as he asked in a shaky voice, "Aunt said Summer was in danger. What happened?"Nelson and Jasper shook their heads with tears streaming down their faces, sobbing that they did not know.Suddenly, Nelson bolted for Summer's room.It was empty. Everything that was Summer's had disappeared.Nelson crumpled to the floor, tears falli

I bit down hard, my eyes glued to the medicine in Yvonne’s hand."Yvonne, give it back to me!"She seemed to notice how much pain I was in. She opened the bottle, took out two pills, stepped back, and taunted, "Summer, if you crawl over here and beg, I might just give them back to you."Not many people would be able to put up with that kind of teasing, especially when my head was throbbing with as much pain as it was.Suddenly, I was so angry I could not think straight. I let out a roar and lunged for the medicine. However, Yvonne tossed all my medicine into the garden fountain as she stepped back. I could not tell if it was an accident or deliberate.Yvonne looked sorry for a moment, but her eyes were still full of challenge.Just as I was about to react, I was shoved hard and slapped across the face.My mind went completely blank.Ethan was furious. "Summer, have you lost your mind? How could you bully Yvonne when we weren't here?"Nelson and Jasper hurried to Yvonne, check
