Chapter 4

Author: Little Cherry
Wynnie shot me a cold look.

“Why are you still standing there? Do I need to personally throw you out? You’re such a buzzkill. I honestly don’t know what my mother was thinking when she chose you as her son-in-law!”

The moment she finished her words, Ash scooped her up and carried her toward the bedroom.

Soon, nauseating laughter and muffled moans drifted out from inside.

Those sounds pierced my heart like needles.

At one point, Wynnie and I had shared a period of genuine sweetness.

However, the moment Ash appeared, all of it came to an abrupt end.

In my previous life, I always believed she had simply been deceived by him.

It was only after being reborn did I finally understand that this was who she truly was.

Perhaps they had gone too far the night before, as Wynnie was unsteady on her feet as she walked.

Ash, on the other hand, looked radiant. He was clearly satisfied.

When he looked at me, his eyes were brimming with undisguised triumph.

“Wynnie, I’m not an official participant, so I’m not going to the venue today or kick up a fuss about it. I’ll wait for you at the hotel. Do your best!”

Wynnie smiled at him indulgently.

“Ash is always so thoughtful, unlike some people who only know how to ruin the mood!”

As she spoke, she cast a look in my direction.

The sight made me snicker to myself.

Was Ash truly not kicking up a fuss, or was he feeling guilty?

‘Wynnie, you probably have no idea what you are about to face.’

Due to the high level of confidentiality surrounding the talks, everyone had to pass a final security screening before entering the venue.

The other team members and I passed without issue.

Wynnie was the only one who ran into trouble.

The metal detector kept going off and she was promptly stopped by security.

“Please wait, Miss. We need to conduct a more detailed inspection. Your cooperation is required.”

The security officer’s tone left no room for refusal.

Other attendees began casting curious, scrutinizing looks her way.

Wynnie’s face flushed with anger as she exploded.

“Look closely. I’m the head of the interpretation team! Do you really think I’d violate regulations?”

She waved her credentials in front of them, but the security personnel remained unmoved.

“Sorry, Miss. Regardless of who you are, you must comply. Please remove all items from your person and place them in this tray.”

“Comply?”

Her gaze turned icy as she looked at me.

“Miles, you’re the deputy team leader. Explain it to them.”

I shrugged my shoulders helplessly.

“Sorry, Ms. Lynn. There’s nothing I can do. If you haven’t violated any rules, just cooperate. I believe the innocent have nothing to fear.”

The other team members nodded in agreement.

Wynnie glared at me with fury written all over her face.

“So now you’re kicking me while I’m down? You’re really something, Miles. Just wait, once we’re back, I won’t let this go.”

I ignored her threat and followed the security officers into the screening room with the rest of the team.

Since we were affiliated with her, our belongings were rechecked as well.

Soon, the results came in.

The head of security walked up to Wynnie holding the electronic watch with a grave expression.

“Ms. Lynn, we detected a miniature listening device inside your watch. Your participation in the meeting has been revoked. Please come with us to the National Security Department for further investigation.”

I finally spoke. My voice was cold and the disgust in it impossible to miss.“Wynnie, could you please stop trying to disgust me?”She acted as though she had not heard me at all and continued talking to herself.“I know you’re still mad now. You can curse me or you can hit me. I won’t blame you for any of it.”“Haven’t you always wanted to become the chief interpreter? I’ve already talked to my father. He said that as long as you don’t divorce me, he’ll find a way to get you that position.”I laughed softly, then took out my credentials as chief interpreter and waved them in front of her.“Sorry. I got here on my own.”“Wynnie, I’ll say this one last time. If you don’t want your affair to become public knowledge, then hurry up and sign the divorce papers.”Then, I walked past her and left. However, Wynnie still could not accept the reality that I truly wanted a divorce. She waited outside the Translation Institute every day for me to get off work. Not only did I feel no symp

“Also, Wynnie and I are already in the process of a consensual divorce, so we’re no longer family.”The smile on Ms. Lynn’s face froze instantly, then hardened into displeasure.“Miles, don’t forget that you wouldn’t have been able to marry Wynnie so easily if I hadn’t agreed back then.”“Now that something’s happened to her, you’re trying to wash your hands of it?”I remained calm and composed.“Ms. Lynn, the one who made the mistake was Wynnie. The one who betrayed our marriage vows was also her. We’re all adults here. Everyone has to pay the price for their own choices.”“Furthermore, everything I’ve achieved today has nothing to do with Wynnie, and even less to do with the Lynn family. I earned it on my own.“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear what you just said for the sake of our past relationship. If you try to play dirty behind my back, I won’t go easy on you.”As I spoke, I took a voice recorder out of my pocket.Ms. Lynn’s face changed instantly.I did not give her another

Wynnie did not notice what I was doing and continued to shout arrogantly, “You’re abusing your authority. I’m telling you right now. This isn’t over!”I let out a cold chuckle and placed the miniature listening device in front of her.She stopped talking instantly, and her expression changed dramatically.…“Ms. Lynn, where exactly did these listening devices in your suitcase come from? Don’t tell me this is because someone else is framing you again.”The security officer stared at her coldly. The entire conference room fell silent. The only sound was Wynnie’s rapid, uneven breathing.“No… these aren’t mine… That suitcase isn’t mine. I don’t know why those things are in there!”The head of security officer sneered, “Just now, you insisted this suitcase belonged to you, yet now you’re changing your story? Do we need to put you in an interrogation room before you start telling the truth?”Wynnie finally collapsed. She covered her face and burst into tears.“These things really

Wynnie’s expression shifted again and again when she heard that. She kept muttering to herself, “That’s impossible… How could that be? Ash loves me. How could he ever hurt me?”“Miles, you’re just jealous of Ash. You’re deliberately trying to drive a wedge between us.”Seeing how hopelessly stubborn she was, I could not be bothered to argue with her anymore. If this farce was going to continue, I would have to push it forward myself.I turned to the head of security and said calmly, “Sir, that smartwatch was a gift from an off-roster staff member at our institute. Why don’t we invite him over here as well to assist with the investigation?”“Is he here too?” asked the head of security.I nodded. “Yes. He’s staying at the same hotel as us.”The captain immediately dispatched officers to bring Ash in.Not only did Wynnie fail to stop them, she looked at me with absolute confidence.“Good. Have him come. Once Ash gets here, I want to see what excuse you’ll use to slander us then.”

As she spoke, it was as though something suddenly crossed her mind. She shot me a vicious look.“Miles, did you deliberately plant that listening device?”“You’ve always been jealous of how close Ash and I are. You’ve never liked him. This is exactly the kind of thing you’d do!”“It’s no wonder you were so firmly against me wearing that watch at first, then suddenly changed your mind. So this was your plan all along. You were waiting for this moment!”She turned to the security officers, pointing at me and shouting hysterically.“Officer, it was this vicious man who framed me! He’s my husband. He’s had plenty of chances to touch my personal belongings. I’m innocent! Arrest him and investigate him right now!”The head of security cast a suspicious glance in my direction. When I met Wynnie’s furious, threatening stare, I put on a faint smile and scoffed, “Wynnie, do you really think everyone is as shameless and despicable as you and Ash?”“Miles, you b*stard! Even now you’re stil

Wynnie’s face went deathly pale. Her entire body froze in place.“A… a listening device? That’s impossible!”“You must have made a mistake, right? I’ve attended so many international conferences. Don’t you think I know what I can and can’t bring?”However, the security personnel ignored her completely. One on each side grabbed her shoulders and began escorting her out.Wynnie refused to cooperate. She struggled wildly.“What are you doing?! I’m the head of Ailiana’s delegation. You can’t treat me like this!”“I demand to see your superior! I’ve been framed!”The head of security remained cold and composed.“If you are indeed the head of the delegation, then you should understand the rules governing major conferences even better than anyone. Your actions constitute a Category A violation. You must come with us.”“Rest assured. Once the matter is fully investigated, you will naturally meet our superiors. Please cooperate with our work for now.”“Take her away.”After giving th
