Chapter 6

Penulis: Green Pick
It wasn't until security intervened and dispersed the crowd that I was finally rescued. I called an ambulance and lost consciousness after being lifted into it.

When I next woke up, I saw dozens of missed calls on my phone—all from Frank.

After calling him back, I immediately heard his anxious voice on the other end. "Where are you right now, honey? Why didn't you pick up the call for so long? I was beside myself with worry!"

I opened my mouth, then paused. In the end, I lied calmly, "Sorry. I was attending a party at a friend's place, and my phone ran out of battery."

Frank seemed relieved to hear that. He said in a gentler tone, "As long as you're alright, babe. I'll officially announce your identity at the company's celebration banquet tomorrow night. Don't worry. There definitely won't be any accidents this time."

I simply hummed in acknowledgement.

Frank seemed caught off guard by my indifference and didn't know what else to say. After a long and awkward silence, he finally added, "You should hurry home then, honey. I'll miss you every second that we're apart."

Of course I would go home, but only to pick up my packed luggage.

After returning to the villa and making sure everything was packed up, the only thing I left behind was the signed divorce agreement on the bedside table.

It didn't matter whether Frank was willing to sign it. If he weren't, I would divorce him through legal means.

As a final touch, I intended to leave him a surprise.

I wouldn't attend the company banquet, but I would send someone to publicize all the evidence I had gathered on Frank's infidelity during this time.

After making all the arrangements, I arrived at the villa's backyard.

I lit a fire there and threw all the photos Frank and I had taken over the years into it—photos we had taken while vacationing at the beach together, photos of us kissing on our wedding day, photos we took to commemorate climbing to the top of a mountain…

The photos quickly curled and blackened in the flames. Eventually, they turned to ash and scattered away with the wind.

It was just like our marriage, which once seemed unbreakable but was now nothing but lies and betrayal.

I stood where I was, watching the fire grow smaller and smaller until the last ember was extinguished.

I felt no nostalgia or reluctance, only calm and relief.

I then picked up my suitcase and took a taxi to the airport without looking back.

  • Where Flames Consume Love   Chapter 12

From that day onward, Frank never bothered me again.I originally assumed he was being tactful, but I later learned from reading the news that he simply had his hands full dealing with his company's crisis.I looked over at Andrew, who was currently yawning and snuggling sleepily into the couch like an oversized puppy. He told me that painting had always been his hobby. He liked painting and a peaceful life, which was why he had settled in this small town and usually paid little attention to company affairs.I still found it hard to imagine him as the president of a large business conglomerate like Fernandez Group. After returning home that day, I had been on edge for a long time. I feared that Frank would find me again and perhaps even use extreme methods to take me back with him. However, Andrew constantly remained by my side, occasionally cracking jokes to cheer me up and help relieve my nervousness. One day, when we had once again gone to the beach to watch the sunset, he h

Darcy's POVAfter returning to my old family home in my hometown, I finally reunited with my parents, whom I hadn't seen in many years. They treated me as well as they used to, but their faces showed clear signs of age.I shared my encounter at the coffee shop with them and told them that the man's name was Andrew Fernandez. For some reason, my parents were both a little startled when I mentioned his name.It looked like they wanted to say something, but decided against it in the end. They simply urged me to show up at the meeting place on time. When I arrived at the coffee shop the next day, Andrew was already waiting for me.I took him all the way to the beach. We walked along that beautiful path on our way there, enjoying the sunset together. While I was walking ahead of him, his eyes suddenly lit up, and he grabbed my sleeve. "Don't move, Darcy."I was stunned, but when I saw him swiftly take out his painting tools, I immediately understood what he was up to.As Andrew co

Third-person POVAt that moment, Frank was sitting in his office, reviewing the investigation report his subordinates had sent him.The first report was a miscarriage report, which clearly stated that Darcy had suffered a miscarriage on the day of the fire. The cause of the miscarriage had also been determined through investigation and reviewing surveillance footage.Frank had shaken off Darcy's hand during the fire and hadn't heard her cries for help. The second report stated that Johanna had been deliberately spreading rumors to manipulate public opinion around this time. She even specifically hired people to accost Darcy at the entrance to the company building. The same people had beaten Darcy up so badly that she had to be sent to the hospital. When he looked at the photos attached to the hospital's injury assessment report, Frank found it hard to breathe through the throbbing pain in his heart. He found it difficult to imagine how miserable and helpless Darcy must have fe

Darcy's POVMeanwhile, I had already boarded a plane back to my hometown. The ups and downs I had gone through lately left me physically and mentally exhausted. I simply wanted to have a good rest before considering my future. After the plane landed, I ordered a cup of coffee at a coffee shop near the airport. That was when I suddenly spotted an artist painting on an easel in a corner. The man had slender fingers and was wearing a loose, linen-colored shirt. Two of his shirt buttons were left casually undone, revealing his delicate collarbones.I couldn't help but take a closer look at him, only to unexpectedly meet his gaze.I felt slightly embarrassed at being caught, but I couldn't hold back my curiosity. I decided to walk over, sit down next to the man, and ask him what he was painting. He smiled and showed me his canvas, which depicted me sitting by the coffee shop's window."Sorry. I was sketching earlier. I thought it was a stunning scene, so I drew it out on canvas."H

Frank instantly turned pale, and the guests below the stage started becoming restless.Aside from intimate photos of him and Johanna, the screen also displayed a marriage certificate as well as evidence that he and Darcy had been secretly married for many years. The name written on the certificate was clearly Darcy Cowell. Finally, the screen showed Darcy's pregnancy test report and miscarriage report.Frank's microphone fell onto the stage with a clunk, whereupon it let out an ear-piercing screech."Our child…""Turn it off! Hurry up and turn it off!" Johanna screeched from the stage. She decided to pull out the projector's power cord, which finally turned off the screen.Still, everyone present had already seen the images projected onto the screen earlier. The venue was in chaos. The guests whispered among themselves with shock and disdain.Representatives of several of Winston Group's business partners got up and left right away. They evidently wanted to distance themselves

He was on standby in the banquet hall early to mingle with the guests. He would occasionally glance toward the entrance, seemingly a bit distracted. For some reason, Darcy, who should have been the main character today, never responded to his message. He felt nothing but an inexplicable irritation at the thought. It lingered in his heart, refusing to go away. One of his business partners, Benjamin Rodriguez, patted him on the shoulder and exclaimed jokingly, "Congratulations, Mr. Winston! I heard you're going to introduce us to your wife today."Frank forced himself to smile, but his unease was growing stronger and stronger. "She might be stuck in traffic. She should be here soon."Right at that moment, someone suddenly affectionately clung onto his arm. He was stunned for a moment, after which he looked over expectantly. Contrary to his expectations, the newcomer was Johanna. In the past, Frank
