Chapter 4

Author: Lynette Woods
“Do you remember our wedding vows?”

If we fell out of love, we swore to let go without holding back. If he lied to me, I would disappear from his life forever.

Victor nodded without hesitation. “Of course I remember. Did I do something to upset you? Or did someone say something to you?”

He leaped to his feet and roared at Rachel. “Who was here the past two days? Give me a list at once!”

Rachel looked at him calmly, as though she was used to this. “Only the nurses came in, and they left once they gave her the medication. Yesterday, I only dropped by to check on her while you were resting, out of concern for her.

“Mrs. Gayes, you shouldn’t overthink things and focus on recovering. Mr. Gayes is constantly worried about you, you know.”

Rachel sounded like she was playing along, but I could hear her gloating between the lines. I turned my head aside and waved at everyone to leave.

Victor was worried he had not proven his love to me enough, so he took my head and continued, “Nina, you’re my one and only wife. I will love you and only you all my life.”

“Mm-hmm,” I replied calmly. I was tired of his act.

Victor pursed his lips and took a deep breath, as though steeling himself before he spoke slowly. “Nina, I have a meeting I need to attend this week. It was supposed to be today, but I postponed it to tomorrow so I could be with you when you fainted.

“This time I swear I’ll keep my phone on. You can call me whenever you wake up, I’ll pick up in an instant!”

He watched me carefully, afraid he would miss any part of my reaction. Was it because he did not want me to know what he was actually up to, or was he actually afraid of losing me?

I suppressed my anger and disappointment, nodding. “Go and focus on your work. I’ll be fine in the hospital.”

Victor took my hand and pressed his cheek against my palm. His stubble was ticklish and disgusting. I could not stand to touch the skin that had been contaminated with another woman’s saliva.

“Nina, we’ll go adopt a kid once you get better. If one isn’t enough, we can get two. You can choose them to your liking! Once they grow up, I’ll hand the company over to them, and we can go travel the world.”

  • Where Love Ends   Chapter 10

I went home in advance on my own and packed my things. After that, I went to the kitchen to start making today's dinner.Silas arrived home just as I was about done. He sat quietly by the dinner table, watching as I busied about. Soon, I served him a plate of pasta and watched as he wolfed it down. Every bite showed how much he enjoyed the food.“Nina, don't worry. The people you dislike will never bother you again,” Silas said matter-of-factly as he ate. When I did not reply, he looked up at me.“This is also our farewell meal.” I looked at him with a calm smile, watching his every bite.“What are you talking about, Nina? If you want, and I mean if, you can consider staying with me. Forever.”“And what about the girl you like? Are you giving up on her?” I looked directly at Silas. He looked straight back at me. “If I hadn't said that, you wouldn't have allowed me to get this close to you.”Men were surprisingly similar when confessing their love. “Silas, you never loved me.

A week later, I was working part-time at the mall collecting donations for an orphanage. To my surprise, I encountered Rachel. She stood rooted to the spot, her eyes red as she stared at me. “Are you really giving up on him, just like that? After everything he did for you…“Do you still blame him after reading the report? He pasted it together piece by piece. After he found out about your sickness, he cried every time he read it…”I pretended not to see or hear her, arranging the things on the table.“Nina, Victor needs you. All I ask is that you tell him not to fire me! I can accept a change in my position, I’ll take any position! I need this job to raise my baby…”“Keep me out of your matters. I don’t have anything to do with you or him anymore,” I said calmly. Rachel froze. My disappointment in Victor had piled up like scars on my body. There was no way I could forget them all. Even if he truly loved me at one point, I no longer wanted any of his love.Rachel suddenly fell

Victor shoved Silas aside and rushed at me like a mad bull. “You said you never cheated on me! Then who’s he?!“I searched everywhere for you, but you moved in with him?! Nina, you shameless bitch!”Silas’ expression was cold. He ignored the pain in his arm and shielded me with his body. “What she does is up to her. You have no right to interfere! Please leave my house at once!”Victor swung his fist at Silas, who caught his punch and held on tightly. “Victor Gayes, do you think you can continue living guiltfree if you can accuse me of cheating? In your dreams!“You lied to me for three whole years! Not even once did you truly feel guilty for what you were doing to me.“You just didn’t want anyone to find out and scold you. You kept making excuses for yourself, justifying your actions. Victor Gayes, you’re a coward! A spineless coward, through and through!”“Nina Morgan, you’ll never find a better man than me in your life! I’ll give you three days. After three days, you’ll neve

At some point, a young man named Silas Kent became my neighbor. After he moved in, my house became much livelier. We watched movies, went out for meals, and traveled together like old friends. Our relationship was close and natural. He even wrote down my preferences in his notepad. There were times when his figure would overlap with Victor’s in my memory.I knew they were different, though. Silas was kind and gentle, and he never yelled at anyone. He even told me once that he had someone he liked.Once after a flood, I was forced to move in with Silas temporarily.Movietime after dinner was when I was most emotionally frail. “Was my cooking too salty or did I give you too much water to drink? Why are you always crying after dinner lately?” Silas gave me a plate of fruit salad and changed the TV to a comedy. He never asked me about my past. He only said to look forward to the future. I knew that he was right, of course. It was just there were times I would come across things that remi

“Nina, I finally found you. Come home with me!” Victor’s voice was rough, and his eyes were red. He was haggard. He gripped my arm tightly, afraid I would vanish again once he let go.“I only went away for a meeting. How could you disappear from the hospital like that? Did I do something to upset? Or did you fall out of love with me?”I scoffed. He did not breathe a word about how he tricked me, and now he was accusing me of falling out of love with him.He sounded even more upset at my silence. “Nina, please give me another chance. I promise, this time I’m serious. I sold the company, so won’t you let me stay by your side?”“You sold the company?! More like you gave it to Nina and your baby!” I took out my phone and showed him the video of Rachel threatening me that day.Victor turned pale, his hands shaking. “Nina, believe me, this time I…”“Believe you? You told me you were busy with work, meetings and overtime; I believed you. You told me there was nothing between you and

  • Where Love Ends   Chapter 5

If I had not known that he was marrying another woman tomorrow, I may have fallen for his sweet words again. He hurriedly left the hospital, saying he wanted to give me time to rest. Once I calmed down my emotions, I left the hospital and returned to the home we built together. It was now just an empty, soulless house. I packed my things briefly, put the divorce papers on the table, and left. The flight to Australia took me away from the places I had known, leaving my past in the clouds. Goodbye, Victor. We shall never meet again. The next day before the wedding, Victor realized he could not reach me no matter how he tried. He instantly abandoned Rachel in her wedding dress, running straight for the hospital. All that awaited him was a long-empty bed.Victor ran around the hospital like a madman, searching every room for his precious Nina.“Nina Morgan, come out! I’m begging you, this isn’t funny!”Victor searched the whole hospital to no avail, then he broke the speed limit to rush
