Chapter 2

Author: Doofus
Finn would rather get discharged and head to the dorms, but he stayed at the hospital since Ruth told him that his sisters were coming.

Given their temper, they'd cause a scene at the campus if they had to go there looking for him instead.

Staring at the 20 grand in his phone, he shrugged—he could at least afford his tuition fees.

In his last life, he would have preferred dignity and his parents' attention.

But now? Forget it.

And what was the harm in taking money from them? They didn't matter to him anyway.

It worked for him if they really were willing to disown him too.

The only thing on his mind was that he was hungry, and his sisters never showed up even as he waited until five in the evening.

Thud, thud!

The knock on the door yanked Finn out of his thoughts, and he turned to see that it was a doctor with a white coat and a face mask.

As the doctor entered, he sat on the chair beside Finn as he lay in bed.

"How do you feel, Mr. Lawson?" he asked with a friendly smile, but there was sympathy in his eyes. "I'm your attending physician, Dorian White. I'm afraid we need to perform further tests as your health really isn't ideal."

Finn was shocked—his cancer had started this early?

On the other hand, Dorian was staring at Finn's face, feeling a sense of familiarity.

"Are you that boy who went on Seeker?" Dorian asked offhandedly. "I think I've seen your face on the trending section before. You refused to be adopted and kept searching for your family for over ten years, didn't you?"

Finn nodded in silence.

Many had praised his determination, but it was such a joke in hindsight.

Dorian looked around the room just then.

It was spacious but empty, with not a single family member in sight.

Weren't his biological parents crying in front of the camera as they took Finn home?

But they weren't here even though he was really sick?

Confusion showed in Dorian's eyes as he watched Finn, and he then asked, "Should I help you call your family for this?"

Finn shook his head. "I know I'm sick, doc. Just arrange the checkups—I'm fine on my own."

Just as Dorian was about to speak, three women stormed into the room menacingly, having already drawn stares as soon as they arrived together at the entrance.

If nothing else, they were all stunning beauties with their own different styles.

The woman in the end was in her mid-twenties, dressed in a black dress with spaghetti straps, her hair long and straight.

However, her sharp gaze narrowed with a cool expression, and her lips were pursed downward to show her displeasure.

As Finn's eldest sister, Zoe Lawson was a successful career woman in her own right.

Even though the family's business empire was vast, she was not happy with being under their shadow and decided to start her own business.

Behind her, Finn's second sister, Vera Lawson, was a beauty, though that much was expected from an actress like her.

She was slender but curvaceous, with a dainty face matched with alabaster skin and a pair of eyes that twinkled like the stars.

And yet, there was a clear hint of disdain even in her smile.

Finn's third sister, Yvie Lawson, was the last to enter.

She was soft-spoken and mild even in appearance, having the charm of a timeless beauty and the innocence of a younger maiden.

Even so, Finn didn't react much despite their regal, beautiful presence.

"More tricks?" Zoe smirked as she stared at him loftily. "Do you think playing dead works on us? Scum like you are rotten to the core… Honestly, why do you share our blood?"

She wasn't hiding her disgust at all, as if coming out of the same womb as Finn insulted her.

Beside her, Vera snorted. "That's just how he is. Playing dead one day, and who knows what he will pull tomorrow! And in the end, he's just jealous of Joe and trying to draw our attention! We wouldn't even be here if Mom didn't send us."

Even Yvie, who was usually quiet and mild-mannered, nodded. "I really think we've been too nice to him, and it's encouraging him to push his luck."

For his part, Finn wasn't at all upset that his sisters were mocking him so openly.

If anything, it strengthened his resolve to stop hoping for anything from them!

On the other hand, Dorian was surprised by how the Lawsons really treated Finn and felt even more sympathy for him just then.

All the heartwarming moments he saw online was far from the truth, and the sisters were absolutely abusive toward their biological brother.

Even as a third-party, he had enough and wanted to help Finn. "Ladies, Finn isn't playing dead. He really is—"

"Dr. White," Finn said, cutting him short. "Please."

He didn't need his sisters to be aware of his condition because it didn't matter anymore.

If anything, they might be laughing if they knew.

"Oh… Okay, just come to my office when you're done here."

And with those words, Dorian left.

On the other hand, the three sisters were surprised that Finn was being so cold.

Before this, if they had so much as lectured Finn, he'd roll over to present his belly like a mutt!

However, even while they had the feeling something was amiss, they never considered him a fellow human being anyway, and that was not about to change.

Zoe's tone was at once cold. "Our family was so happy and peaceful, but you showed up. Joe suddenly refused to come home and is stuck too! We have no idea where he is, and if he gets hurt, we will make sure you pay for this!"

She was ready for Finn to apologize like he always did, but he wasn't responding at all.

That was when Vera noticed something that left her perplexed. "What are you smiling about, Finn? What do you want?"

Finn looked at her sideways. "To cut ties with all of you, that's all."

Vera snickered as if he was joking. "You came to us because we're rich, no? Do you think you're willing to cut yourself off from such wealth? We know—you wouldn't have showed up if we were poor, and you just want to be a rich kid.

"But you're giving us an attitude now? Fine. I'll give you 300… Heck, 500 grand. After that, you will leave our family."

Zoe was listening to Vera mocking Finn the whole time and eventually burst out laughing.

Yvie was smirking too, as 500 grand was way less than what Joe got for his birthday.

But who knew—perhaps that would be enough to persuade the bumpkin to leave.

Pulling out her checkbook from her Chanel bag, Vera taunted, "You're not getting a cent from the family anyway—all of it belongs to Joe. So say yes, and you at least get some money."

In another life, Finn would be refusing over nonsensical 'familial bonds', even groveling like a mutt to prove his loyalty.

This time, however…

Shaking his head, he said, "Don't bother. Wire it straight to my account, and specify that it's a donation to the bank. Once I receive the money, I'll sign the agreement."

Vera frowned in disbelief.

They all knew how badly this brat wanted the family's attention, but he was now willingly leaving?

This was impossible.

Zoe and Yvie were just as stunned—they just wanted to humiliate Finn, but he agreed to it?

"Are you sure? Vera asked in uncertainty. "You won't be our brother if you take our money."

"Yes, I am," Finn replied, starting to get a little impatient. "So are we doing this or not? If we aren't, then forget it."

Vera absolutely wanted him gone, however, and promptly wired him 500 grand.

Finn himself quickly signed the agreement, leaving Vera a little stumped when he handed it to her.

He really signed it?

Just as everyone had thought—he only showed up for the money but remained so vindictive!

She was almost disappointed!

"Hey, if it isn't Finn Lawson, the real son of the Lawsons!"The rowdy cafeteria abruptly turned silent as everyone turned toward the student who spoke out loud—even the ones waiting in line. However, the student continued with jealousy flashing in his eyes. "Just think about it. He couldn't find his parents for so long but suddenly found them… He must have seen how well off Joe was and wanted money!"The others sitting beside him quickly agreed. "That's right! How thick-skinned! How unseemly!""Kid has no principles. He's always demanding for more money—that's why the family resents him too!"Hearing that, the others began to clamor."Yeah. Finn had been playing Great Gate ever since his team made it, and he even sent Yorick a link to the app.As it was not published yet, it was only available in offline mode.Yorick had stopped playing his favorite game since he smashed his mouse and was busy playing Great Gate since.Today, in philosophy class, in which everyone was left dozing off, he was playing it too."Tch!"He clicked his tongue as he lowered his phone, staring at the words 'Game Over' on the screen and scratching his head repeatedly, leaving his hair a mess."Your game's so hard!" he complained. "I can't even get past the second level!"And yet, he tapped on the replay button anyway, groaning as he did, "Ugh, I can do this! It's so addicting that I see it when I close my eyes!"Hearing him, Ruby Locke—the class princess—turned toward them as she was about to doze off from the class too."What game are you playing? Is it really that hard?" she asked, her face lighting up with interest. "Let me try it and s

Yvie was sulking as she returned home. The rest of the Lawsons had been waiting the whole night, and they quickly gathered in the living room when they saw her return.Seeing that look on Yvie's face, Vera promptly confirmed her own suspicions about Finn, and he had to bully Yvie on top of that! She promptly planted herself beside Yvie, putting an arm around her shoulder and rocking her. "Don't get so upset, sis!" she said, and then snarled through gritted teeth, "I knew Finn was a rotten apple all along. Now that you've caught him red-handed, he'll definitely do his worst to get back at us! How dare he try to slander me? I'll show him!""Wait, what?" Yvie blurted in surprise."Oh, Yvie," Joe chimed in just then, sitting on the armrest with a vague smile. "It was dangerous to talk to him alone. Who knows what he'll do…"Naturally, he wasn't at all worried like the rest of the family, and was absolutely pleased that they were going after Finn. With things carrying on like this,

Even so, Finn had always insisted on cooking for Yvie, and she suddenly wondered how long it had been since he cooked for her. That was when she remembered—after they made him sign that disownment agreement, and after which he never came home since.Yvie suddenly couldn't help but wonder if she was prejudiced against Finn the whole time, but that was when the food arrived. She ate after Finn had asked her to, and then thought about it before asking, "So Vera told me she bumped into you at Kite Tower, where you met a man called Malcolm Lock? What's that about?"Finn was eating too, and he paused. "So that's why you called me?"Yvie nodded, chagrined as she had never invited Finn anywhere like this before.Still, Finn shrugged and took out his phone, holding it in front of Yvie as he tapped on the Great Gate app. "This is a mobile game I'm investing in, and I'm discussing a viral marketing plan with Mr. Lock."As he pocketed his phone, he finished, "I guess you can call it a start

After finishing her work despite looking distracted, Vera quickly sent her staff away before rushing home.Zoe coincidentally finished work and got home as well, so Vera quickly stopped her and told her everything.Zoe frowned in turn. "Let's just calm down for now. We can discuss it with the rest of the family at dinner."Henry's bid for that major project was still ongoing since they managed to keep Joe's arrest under wraps. But if Finn were to publicize it, then Vera would lose her lead role, and Henry would lose his bid, while Zoe's own company might lose market value as well!-Once the sisters told the rest of the family during dinner, things tensed up immediately.Henry even slammed his fork on the table, his temple veins surfacing as he bellowed, "That rotten brat!"He could strangle Finn right then—was he so dead set on destroying their family? Was there even a sliver of that brat which measured up to Joe?!Ruth put down her fork too and patted Henry's arm to calm him

On top of that, it reinforced the public image that Vera was just a pretty face slash nepobaby, as her hopes to turn the tide of long-standing criticism against her fell flat.Instead, her reputation took a nosedive and her fanbase dwindled, with some diehard fans even becoming her worst detractors.Even as Finn wondered if he should tell Vera, she finished speaking with the press. After her staff escorted the press members away, she immediately spotted Finn standing nearby, her tactful smile immediately melting into disgust. Her tone was just as harsh as she snapped, "Finn! You're really persistent, aren't you? It's like there's just no getting rid of you! What is it now? Already using up all your money and you're now here to stalk me? How did you even find out where I am?!"I'm warning you—quit bothering me, and don't think you're getting anything from me!
