Chapter 2

Author: Justine Randall
When Lucy came around, she was in the hospital.

A young assistant lawyer stood by the side of the bed, saying to her in a helpless tone, "Ms. Quinn, the case has been settled. You need to try to let it go. Your health is what matters the most now."

Lucy came to her senses. Ignoring that a needle was in her arm connected to the IV drip, she immediately sat up and went through her bag.

"Can you take a look and see if this document is valid?" she asked, her voice trembling, as she handed the document to the assistant lawyer.

She soon received her answer. "Ms. Quinn, your husband has signed the papers. All we need is your signature. You'll be able to get the divorce settled in a month."

That morning, she had taken the papers and knelt in front of Wyatt. Perhaps he was rushing to head out, or he did not believe she would leave him. He was so sure that the papers were fake. So, he signed them without even looking.

He never would have guessed that she meant every word she said. Lucy did not want to wait a single moment longer. She pulled the needle out of her arm and headed straight to the courthouse to hand in her documents.

Once settled, she headed to the beach. She knelt under the cool drizzle and said, "Mom, I will stay in a place by the sea. I'll always be with you."

Her only reply was the sound of the cold breeze. After a long time of kneeling, she wiped her tears and made a call. "Hello, I'd like to arrange a…staged death and rescue."

She stuttered, yet with a determined tone, saying, "It'll happen in a month. I want my death to be a murder. I'll arrange for the place of death. I need you to give me a new identity. Once you rescue me, you'll send me abroad."

She would not only get a divorce, but she would also seek justice for herself. She would give Wyatt a surprise that he would never forget.

Once Lucy settled everything, she returned home. When she arrived, it was already nighttime.

The lights in the living room were still on. Wyatt was feeding Eva chicken soup, spoon by spoon.

"Wyatt, I've uploaded the apology letter online." Eva leaned on Wyatt's shoulder and said, "What Lucy did to me was slanderous. She needs to be taught a lesson about being bullied online. Don't interfere in this."

Wyatt gulped, but then he replied, "Okay. She deserved it."

Lucy suddenly remembered the criticism she had received online. They said that her mother deserved to die, that she was a terrible housekeeper, that she was a nobody…

Her heart felt a jab of pain, but she entered the living area with a neutral expression.

"Where did you go?" Wyatt was stunned to see Lucy's pale face. He softened his tone and asked, "How did you hurt your forehead?"

Lucy ignored him.

Eva chimed in, "Lucy, you're back. Just in time, too. I've brought you presents. Come quickly and have a look."

Wyatt cleared his throat, looking a little hesitant. "Lulu, Eva had been unconscious for a long time. She hasn't fully recovered yet. She'll be staying here for the time being. Please look after her.

"She's lactose intolerant. She can't have cold food. She'll need at least 10 hours of sleep. Her fruits need to be juiced…"

Every word was a jab into Lucy's heart. She chuckled in disbelief. "What? Are you asking me to look after her?"

"Be good, Lucy. Just let things go. Let the past be the past. You were once a housekeeper for my family. I have faith in you…" Wyatt trailed off.

On the dining table was a list of things to look out for in caring for Eva. There were 267 items on the list.

On the floor lay many bags from different luxury brands, but all of the items inside were either used or torn. The so-called gifts Eva gave her were basically trash.

Lucy suddenly recalled how, a few years ago, one of Wyatt's friends had called her a housekeeper, and Wyatt instantly lost it. He immediately cut ties with them and stopped a multi-million-dollar project.

"Lulu is my wife! An insult to her is an insult to me!"

Yet, at that moment, he was the one insulting her, asking her to be a caretaker of her enemy.

His promises meant nothing. She no longer believed him. Lucy held back her tears. That was the last 30 days. She would take it all in.

Little did she expect that night, Eva barged into their room, saying that she had had a nightmare. Wyatt had just finished his shower.

"Wyatt, I can't sleep on my own," she whined in a feeble yet coquettish tone. She got in the bed and hugged Wyatt, who was topless. "The mattress in the guest room is too hard. I'm scared. I want you to sleep with me."

Wyatt furrowed his brows, but Lucy knew he was caving in.

He was so worried for Eva that he scooped her into his arms right in front of Lucy.

He turned to look at Lucy. "Lulu, Eva hasn't suffered like this in her life. Can you...go to another room?"

At that moment, Lucy saw a flash of smugness flicker across Eva's face. Lucy pursed her lips and got out of bed, taking her pillow. "Since Ms. Lawson likes it so much. She can have the bed."

Not only the bed, but she could also have the man. Lucy did not want either, anymore.

Her entire body felt weak after being drugged, and her hands were tied behind her back.Lucy quickly went through the possibilities of who would want to kidnap her. She was very sure it was not Wyatt, because if he had wanted to take her away, he would not have treated her like that.Soon, she heard a rustling sound next to her. She immediately asked, "Who's there?""Lulu?" A familiar voice, slightly hoarse, said, "Lulu, is that you?"She could not believe that Wyatt had also been kidnapped. They were both tied up and sitting on the floor.Once Wyatt realized that it was both of them who were kidnapped, he yelled, "Come out! Eva, is that you!"The minute he said that, the clicking of high heels suddenly rang out."As expected from the man I have loved for so long." Wyatt had returned to the country for almost a week.On the fourth day, Brandon Chapman, the one who held the auction, was arrested on a tip that he had vast amounts of photos of underage girls. He was taken to the police station for questioning. If everything went accordingly, he would be locked up for life. When Wyatt came out of the cellar, his assistant could barely look at his arms. "Mr. Grant, you were right. It was Mr. Dwight who reported Mr. Chapman. Shall I get you to the hospital?"Wyatt was barely standing straight. He was trying to hold back the pain and itch from the insect bites."No need. Get me the earliest flight to Itaile." Although he was weak, his eyes were filled with determination. "Also, get me a thorny branch and some sandpaper."Two days later, Lucy had stepped out of the bakery to feed some stray cats when she saw that mess of a man.Only a week had passed, and Wyatt had lost a lot of weight. His pants flapped in the sea breeze. He put his hand in his po

"Why should I stop talking? You can't take it already? Just like that? Hah! A husband who keeps saying that he loves his wife would let a group of people slap her?"Sure! A scumbag like you should join her!"Lucy's words stabbed deeply into Wyatt's heart.Lucy continued, saying, "Wyatt, don't ever appear in front of me again!"The window rolled up as the car drove away. Lucy knew that Wyatt would not give up that easily. He knelt in front of her apartment for the entire night. The next morning, Lucy deliberately left home earlier, but on the way to the bakery, a red sports car started tailing her."Lulu, please give me a chance to make it up to you. Please? I know I'm a scumbag that doesn't deserve your forgiveness. No matter how I kneel or punish myself, it is not even a thousandth of the despair you've been through."But I never once thought of divorcing you. I've sent Eva to a mental asylum.
