Chapter 2

Author: Windie
Felix answered, and his younger brother Finn's carefree voice came through.

“Felix! I need you to bail me out! Grace was helping Mom get ready for her birthday party, and the klutz accidentally knocked over that porcelain statue Mom treasures! If Mom finds out, she'll tear her apart! I'm overseas right now, hanging out on the beach with some model I just met, so I can't exactly come home. Do me a favor and smooth things over, will you?

“I know this goes against all those precious rules of yours, but Grace is your sister-in-law, for God's sake. You can't just leave her to fend for herself!”

Felix frowned, his voice turning colder.

“You married her. Why aren't you treating her properly? She's your wife. Come home and protect her yourself.”

“Come on, Felix. You know what I'm like! I only married her because, sure, she was poor, but she seemed sweet and innocent. It was something different, you know? But the novelty wore off!

“She's nothing like Wendy Walker. Now there's a woman! Gorgeous, wild, and full of attitude. That's the kind of woman who keeps things interesting! Grace is just so bland. After a while, she gets boring as hell. I can barely stand being around her anymore.

“And now she keeps calling me in tears over every little thing. It's driving me crazy! She's ruining my vacation!”

The moment Felix heard that Grace had been calling Finn in tears, his expression darkened.

He remained silent for several seconds before answering in a voice that betrayed nothing.

“Fine. I'll handle it.”

He hung up and strode toward the office door.

So preoccupied was he with Grace's situation that he didn't even notice Wendy standing just outside the half-open door, her face as white as a sheet.

Wendy watched him hurry away.

As he walked, she heard him giving instructions to the assistant following close behind.

“Find out where Wendy is right now.”

His assistant immediately replied.

“Mr. Foster, we just received word that Mrs. Foster refused to undergo the IVF procedure and ran out of the hospital.”

Felix didn't break stride.

“Send someone over to trash the hospital. Immediately.”

The assistant was clearly taken aback.

He carefully sought clarification.

“Mr. Foster, you mean you want us to blame Mrs. Foster for the damage and report it to your mother? So she'll turn her anger on Mrs. Foster instead?”

Felix's expression remained cold and impassive.

“Yes. Make a big enough scene that my mother completely forgets about Grace breaking that statue.”

Wendy felt as though a thunderbolt had exploded inside her head.

An icy chill swept through her entire body.

So that was why Felix wanted to find her.

Not because he was worried about her.

Not because he cared whether she was safe.

He wanted to use her as Grace's scapegoat!

He wanted Wendy to bear the full force of his mother's wrath, just so Grace wouldn't have to!

What was left to ask?

What was there to confirm?

The truth was right in front of her, so cruel and unmistakable that she couldn't even lie to herself anymore.

It felt as though an invisible hand had seized her heart and was tearing it apart.

The pain was so unbearable she could barely breathe. Every breath seemed to bring a dull ache and the taste of blood.

By the time Wendy came back to her senses, Felix was gone.

She finally snapped out of her shock.

Raising a hand, she fiercely wiped away the tears that had somehow soaked her face.

Wendy Walker had never been the type to cling to something she couldn't have!

And she certainly wasn't going to cry over a man who didn't love her, a man who'd used her all along!

She immediately took out her phone and called her father.

“Victor Walker, I'm divorcing Felix Foster. Call in every favor you have. I want this divorce finalized as quickly as possible.”

Her father was clearly stunned by the sudden announcement.

Then he flew into a rage.

“What the hell is wrong with you now?! What's so bad about Felix? He's mature, capable, and comes from one of the wealthiest families around! Women would kill to marry into the Fosters! Stop acting on every ridiculous impulse that pops into your head! You have no idea how lucky you are!”

“I'm not asking for your opinion!” Wendy snapped.

“Haven't you always wanted me out of the picture so you can play happy family with your mistress and those precious illegitimate kids of yours?”

She drew a deep breath, fighting back the tightness in her throat.

Then she spoke slowly, emphasizing every word.

“Help me get this divorce, and I promise I'll disappear from Harbour City immediately. For good. You'll never have to see me again for as long as I live. I'll be completely out of your lives.”

A long silence followed.

Wendy gripped her phone, her fingertips ice-cold.

She knew her father far too well.

Over the years, there had been no shortage of women in his life or illegitimate children born from his affairs.

And Wendy, his legitimate daughter and the rightful Walker heiress, had long since become an unwanted presence in that family.

An obstacle they wanted out of the way.

How much of her wild, rebellious behavior had truly been her personality?

And how much had been armor she'd built to protect herself from being swallowed whole?

Finally, her father's voice came through, sounding almost relieved.

“Fine. If that's what you insist on, I'll do it. But you'd better keep your word.”

At that moment, Wendy felt as though a thousand needles had pierced her heart, sending sharp waves of pain through her entire body.

She tried to smile, but all she managed was a bitter grimace.

“Don't worry. The sight of you people makes me sick, too.”

Her voice was calm, without anger, resentment, or even the slightest hint of emotion.Yet every word cut deeper than any blade.“Felix Foster, just look at yourself.”She paused.“It's pathetic. And ridiculous.”Then her red lips parted, delivering the words that would destroy what little hope he had left.“Falling in love with you was the biggest humiliation of my life.”Her voice turned firm, leaving no room for argument.“Please stay out of my life. Forever.”With that, she turned away without sparing him another glance. She reached for Leo's arm and leaned gently against him.Leo slipped an arm around her waist and cast one last cold look at Felix, who remained kneeling in the snow, looking as though every last bit of life had drained from him. Then he guided Wendy toward the warmly lit glass cabin.Wendy never looked back.Felix remained motionless in the freezing snow, like a statue abandoned to the elements. He watched the two figures in matching white coats disap

I love you.”“You mean it?”Wendy cut him off, her smile growing even colder. She slowly bent down and leaned close to his ear. When she spoke, her voice was barely loud enough for him to hear, but every word was painfully clear.“Then tell me something, Felix.
