Aria's POV

***

I kept the phone pressed against my ear for a few seconds, waiting. Nothing.

Then I slowly pulled it away and stared at the screen. The call had ended. My fingers felt cold.

I looked around my room. Everything was exactly where I'd left it. The curtains were still. The lamp beside my bed was still on. Nothing had changed. Yet somehow, the room didn't feel the same anymore.

I swallowed. You shouldn't have called her. Who was that man? How did he know I had called her? And more imp

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 63: Come alone

Aria’s POV***My fingers would not stop shaking. The phone screen glowed in the dark room like it was alive. The photo stayed open. The woman on the chair. Her head low. Her hair covering her face. The ropes on her wrists. The message under it burned into my eyes.‘She is still alive because of you. Come alone tomorrow or she dies. Tell no one.’I locked the screen. Then I opened it again. Then I locked it. My heart was hitting my ribs so hard it hurt. I pressed the phone against my chest and tried to breathe.Who was she?Why me?Why now?A soft knock touched my door. I jumped so hard the phone nearly fell.“Aria?”My father’s voice. Gentle. Worried.I wiped my face fast and shoved the phone under the pillow.“Come in,” I said. My voice sounded broken. The door opened. Dad stepped inside with the small lamp in his hand. The light made his tired face look older. He closed the door behind him and stood near the bed.“You have been crying,” he said.“I am fine.”“Do not lie to me.”I l

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 62: The room that knew me

Aria’s POV***I slammed the door so hard the frame shook. Then I fell to the floor. My knees hit the old carpet and the pain did not even matter. Tears were already running down my face so fast I could not wipe them in time. My chest was rising and falling like I had been running for miles. I pressed both hands over my mouth so my father would not hear how ugly the sound of my crying was.I married a monster. The words I shouted downstairs were still in my throat. They burned. They felt true and wrong at the same time. I did not know which part hurt more.Adrian’s voice kept replaying in my head.*As your husband, I command you to stop.*Command.Like I was a servant. Like I was a child. Like my fear was an inconvenience he needed to shut down.I crawled to the bed and climbed onto it without turning on the light. The room was dark except for the weak moonlight coming through the curtain. This used to be my room. My safe place. The bed still smelled a little like the soap my mother u

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 61: Behave

Adrian’s POV***The phone was still in my hand. The live camera feed from the mansion was still on the screen. The open door. The blood on the floor. The empty corridor. My security man stood beside me, waiting for an order. Aria and Daniel stood in front of me, both of them looking at the phone like it held the answer to everything.Aria stretched out her hand.“Adrian, give it to me. Let me see.”I locked the screen and pulled the phone back.“No.”Her eyes widened. “What do you mean no? I saw your face. Something is wrong. Give it to me.”“It is nothing you need to see right now.”Daniel stepped closer. His voice was hard. “Adrian, what’s that? Show us.”I kept the phone down by my side. My fingers were tight around it. If Aria saw the open door and the blood, she would break again. She would ask more questions. She would demand answers I could not give without putting her in more danger.“It’s nothing,” I said. My voice came out calm even though my chest was tight. “Just some pro

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 60: The Lamp in the dark

Adrian’s POV***Daniel’s question hung in the cold night air.“Aria… what are you doing here by this time?”Aria did not answer with words at first. She just ran to him and held him tight. Her bag fell to the ground with a soft sound. Her shoulders shook hard. Daniel held the lamp in one hand and wrapped his other arm around her like he was afraid she would disappear if he let go.I stayed by the car. The two security cars were parked a little behind us. Their lights were off now, but I knew the men inside were watching everything. The street was quiet. Too quiet for a moment like this.Daniel looked over Aria’s head and saw me. His face changed. The fear in his eyes turned into something harder. Something close to anger.“Adrian,” he said. His voice was rough. “Why is my daughter here in the middle of the night? Why does she look like this?”Before I could speak, Aria pulled back a little. Her voice was broken and full of tears.“Dad… Lily is dead.”Daniel froze. The lamp shook in h

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 59: The horn at the gate

Adrian’s POV***I didn't answer her question. I was already tired. We both got into the car and I started driving.“Adrian, why did you ask? She asked me again.“Nothing. Just wanted to know.” I answered and kept driving. The two cars stayed behind us.I could see them clearly in the rearview mirror. One black. One dark grey. They kept the same distance the whole time. Not too close. Not too far. Just enough to make it clear they were not going anywhere.Aria kept looking at the side mirror. Then she turned and looked through the back window. Her hands were tight on her bag. Her breathing was not steady. I could feel the fear coming from her without her saying a word.“Why are they still following us?” she asked. Her voice was low but full of fear. “Adrian, answer me. Why are those cars behind us?”I kept my eyes on the road for a second. Then I looked at the mirror again. The cars were still there. Same speed. Same position.“They are with us,” I said. She turned to me fast. “What d

  • Who Did I Marry    Chapter 58: You don't get to talk to me like that

Adrian’s POV***After I said those words to her, I did not wait for my father or Ethan to say anything else.I left them standing in the hallway and followed Aria immediately. My steps were fast and heavy. She was already near the front door with her small bag held tightly in one hand. Her back was straight but I could still see the small tremble in her shoulders. She was tired. She was scared. And she was done with this house.“Aria, wait,” I called. She did not stop. She reached for the door handle like she had already made up her mind and nothing could change it.I moved faster and stood in front of the door, blocking her path. My voice came out stronger and more serious than I planned.“You are not leaving like this. Not in the middle of the night. Not after everything that just happened in this house.”She looked up at me with tired and angry eyes. The same eyes that had looked at me earlier like I was a stranger. “Move, Adrian. I already told you I am going home. I cannot stay
