Chapter 30

Author: Summer Blossom
Nathan deduced that Edward cared about Macie a lot. Yet, he couldn't understand why Edward was fooling around with another woman, to the point of bringing his mistress back to his home.

Nathan ordered the meals for Macie. However, he was savvy enough to tell her that the order was placed by the Fowler family and not Edward.

He worried that Macie might just flush the food down the toilet if she knew who it was really from.

At the hospital, Macie ate those meals. She figured that it was most likely Yosef's idea since they were from the Fowler family.

However, Macie furrowed her brows. She wondered if Edward had told Yosef that she had been admitted to the hospital.

Strangely, she did not receive any new messages from Yosef. Macie did not send him any messages either since she would probably have to share details about her injuries.

Macie spent her days leisurely. During the day, she watched tutorial videos or worked on her sketches. She had enough practice to ensure that she could

"Mr. Fowler, about the deal..." Michael inquired over the phone.Edward responded coldly, "I heard you. Give me two minutes."Michael understood what was at stake and relayed the message to the seller. The latter was willing to wait because 0.07 ounces of the concentrated antidote for Devil's Breath in exchange for 150 million dollars was an incredible deal. …Meanwhile, Edward called Elias at the end of the inpatient corridor to confront him. The call connected almost immediately. Edward suppressed his anger and gritted out, "Elias Hale, it's you, isn't it? You bought out the Devil's Breath antidote just to keep it from me, yet you had the nerve to call me cruel? If anything, you're the real monster here!"If you want revenge, come at me. But don't you dare take it out on Macie! She's innocent! You know I'm trying to save her, yet you still had your men buy up the antidote at the last minute. Don't you have a heart?"…Elias was met with a barrage of accusations the second h

Rico said darkly, "For the record, the reason I failed last time wasn't my fault. You never told me that that woman had bodyguards tailing her in the shadows. Give me one more chance. I swear there won't be another slip-up."I was going to abduct her and finish the job quietly before. But this time, I'll take her out in broad daylight!"Sharon didn't respond right away. The truth was, she had no way to get in touch with any other reliable hitmen at that moment. Moreover, she planned to stop using this SIM card for a while, hide it somewhere, and wait for the heat to die down."The deposit I paid you is yours to keep. If you fail, consider it a form of hush money. You get what I'm saying, right?" she coldly asked. Rico understood. He promised, "If I fail again, you won't owe me the rest. I won't contact you during this period, and even if I get caught, I won't mention your name.""Go and get it done. Don't let me down again. This time, make sure it's done for good," she said icily

Sharon dug into the bottom drawer of the cabinet in the presidential suite of Westgrave Hotel and pulled out a SIM card hidden between the pages of an old notebook. After inserting it into her phone, she deliberately locked herself in the bathroom.Sharon called Rico, but he didn't pick up. Just as she was about to text him, he called back. "My phone was soaked. I just bought a new one." Rico's voice came through, slightly breathless and disheveled."You waste of space!" she exploded. "I told you to be clean and efficient. You failed to carry out my request a few days ago, and now you almost got caught? If I'd known you were this incompetent, I'd never have hired you! I paid you handsomely. What the hell were you doing?"Rico bristled at the verbal attack and fired back. "You never told me that woman had personal bodyguards! All of them were trained professionals, and they were secretly tailing and protecting her. If they hadn't shown up, I'd have succeeded by now!"As soon as his

"Have you ever heard of something called 'histrionic personality disorder'?" That was what the officer had asked him. Elias took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He didn't want to doubt Sharon, nor did he want to believe that female officer. He thought about how Sharon usually behaved around him and the way she acted on video calls with his parents, her gentle demeanor, and every subtle movement… No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't see her as someone cruel or malicious. Mitch's voice crackled through the phone. He said, "But if you ask me, she's hurting her own kind. If a man betrayed her, she should go after him instead of another woman."After hearing that, Elias snapped back to reality. He pressed his lips together in silence. Mitch had a point. If it were him, he'd have castrated that scumbag Edward. The latter had a wife, yet he still crawled back into Sharon's life and cheated on his wife. …Meanwhile, inside a sleek Bentley, Sean asked, "Why didn't Sharon ju

Alice spotted Nathan at the elevator and said, "Let's exchange numbers, Mr. Levy. If there are any updates with May, message me right away." She had long since given up on expecting that jerk Edward to keep her in the loop. She'd rather rely on Nathan, who was easier to talk to and more respectful.Nathan pulled out his phone and added her contact details. "Alright. I'm heading home. Don't forget to message me!" she reminded him again as she stepped into the elevator.Nathan nodded and responded, "I won't forget, Ms. Hart. I hope you have a safe trip home, Mr. and Ms. Hart. Goodbye."The elevator doors slid shut, and the siblings headed home.…As the driver cruised through the night, Alice continued to work out who could've wanted to hurt her best friend because the cops said that Sharon had denied everything during their interrogation. "I genuinely can't think of anyone else. May doesn't have enemies. She barely has any friends. Her social circle is small. "Could it be som

Sean said that he and Macie weren't involved. Then, how the hell was Edward supposed to explain what he saw yesterday at noon? He could rationalize the earlier stuff—Macie cooking for Sean, and Sean deliberately showing off the cufflinks she supposedly bought for him. However, the blush on her face and that unmistakable shyness and helplessness… Edward wondered if Macie had genuinely fallen for Sean. The thought hit him all at once, and his body went rigid. It hit just as hard as when he first learned that they had been seeing each other.Edward stared intently at the man standing by the window. Sean was tall, lean, good-looking, and well-bred. Edward gritted his teeth. He had to admit that Sean wasn't someone he could take lightly. He could win against Julian, but if his rival in love was Sean… This was the first time Edward had felt threatened. Unless Sean never fell for Macie, he felt his chances of getting back together with her were slim. Thinking about how often Sean and
