Chapter 3

Author: Bebe
I casually picked up a princess dress and met Vanessa's eager gaze.

"You want this?"

A triumphant look flashed across her face, and she nodded hard.

"Can I have it?"

She reached out as if it were already hers.

The next second, I slapped her hand away so hard that the back of it turned bright red.

"Who said you were good enough to touch my things with those filthy hands?"

"Get back to the staff cottage. From now on, you're not allowed in the main house without my permission!"

My voice dripped with contempt, my eyes full of open disdain.

Vanessa stared at me in disbelief.

"You! You're not afraid Mom and Dad will find out?"

I scoffed.

If foolish kindness had only gotten me killed, I might as well be the villain.

"So what if they find out? You think they'd believe some small-town nobody over me?"

"Wake up. Mom and Dad only care about me. I'm their only daughter."

Stung by my words, Vanessa opened her mouth to argue.

But her gaze dropped to my chest, lingered there for a long moment, and then she slowly calmed down.

"Fine. I was wrong."

"I won't come in without your permission again."

She spat the words through gritted teeth, then turned and left.

She knew that if she wanted what she was after, she had to learn to endure.

After that day, Vanessa mostly kept away from me.

She stayed in the staff cottage, sometimes even volunteering to do chores.

Over time, everyone began to think the fake heiress was the cruel one.

Not only had I taken her identity, but I was also bullying the poor real heiress.

I didn't care. I wasn't planning to stay in this house forever anyway.

The day my birth parents, Laura and Michael Bennett, came looking for me, Vanessa was pretending to sweep the floor.

Laura and Michael were heartbroken when they saw her. They wanted to take her back.

Vanessa, of course, refused.

She had finally escaped poverty and was about to live the good life.

She wanted nothing to do with her old home.

She pointed right in their faces and spat, "You pathetic losers! You actually think I'm your daughter?"

"Living in your dump for a few years was doing you a favor!"

"Go look in a mirror. You think you deserve me?"

Laura and Michael had no idea about the switch. They had always raised Vanessa as their own daughter.

Her words broke their hearts.

That was when Elaine and Richard came home.

They threw Laura and Michael off the property and warned them never to come back.

Laura and Michael stubbornly refused to leave. They insisted on taking me with them because I was their biological daughter.

In my last life, Elaine and Richard had poisoned me against them.

They made me believe my birth parents were bad people.

I thought they only wanted me back so they could use and mistreat me.

Only as I lay dying did I learn the truth: Laura and Michael had genuinely loved me.

They had only wanted to bring me home so our family could be whole again.

This time, when Elaine and Richard tried to turn me against them, I refused to give in.

That was when Vanessa stepped out of the house, looking frail. She addressed her loyal supporters."Grace, I don't blame you for not saving me.""But you shouldn't attack the people who are trying to help. You want to force me to give up my heart?""But did you know that someone out there was a match too, and refused to give up her own life?""Instead, she plotted to send someone else's daughter to her death!"Confusion spread across every face. No one knew who I was talking about.I let a cold smile curl at my lips and turned to my adoptive mother."Mom, who do you think I'm talk

The next day, the video hit the headlines. The headline read: REAL HEIRESS BEGS FOR HER LIFE AS FAKE HEIRESS LOOKS ON.With that, Elaine and Richard declared all-out war.In front of the cameras, Elaine and Richard wailed about everything they had done for me."We treated her better than our own daughter from the day she was born!""We put her through school, paid for her to study abroad, even bought her a house!""Ask anyone! Have the Harrisons ever failed her?""Our own daughter is dying, and she refuses to help!"Elaine and Richard sobbed like the world was ending. It was the kind of performance that could move anyone to tears.Meanwhile, Vanessa, pale as paper, still managed to speak up for me."Mom, Dad, don't blame her...""Everyone has a selfish side. I understand..."The interview went viral.People poured out sympathy for the dying heiress.I became the target of every reporter and viewer, branded as the selfish, cold-blooded girl who refused to save her dying sister.Elaine a

In my past life, that was exactly how they tricked me.This time, I wasn't falling for it.But I did not refuse outright. I agreed instead."Sure, no problem. It's just a heart, right?""If I'm a match, I don't mind donating mine. We're family, after all."Hearing me agree so readily, Elaine and Richard exchanged triumphant smiles. Then I added something else."But Mom, Dad, you love me so much. You wouldn't want me to die, would you?""People say parents are supposed to protect their children. Even though I'm not yours by blood, I know you'd never let me trade my life for my sister's."That little speech put them in an awkward spot.Would they keep playing the loving parents, or would they drop the act? When forced to choose between keeping up the act and Vanessa's life, they chose Vanessa."Grace, if you do this for Vanessa, we will never forget what you've done for us."Elaine took my hand, her mask firmly in place. In my last life, they had said the exact same thing. But my body en
