Chapter 152

Author: Flower Sock
"I asked him to come. It's been a while since we've all had a meal together, and I thought it would be nice to catch up. It's not too much to ask, is it?" Eleanor said, glancing over at Gregory.

Gregory's expression stayed neutral. He walked up to her and greeted softly, "Hi, Mom."

Eleanor nodded, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

The harmony they displayed in front of others was in sharp contrast to the tension in the car the other night. It was almost jarring.

But neither of them seemed to mind. They wore the masks of a devoted son and a kind mother without missing a beat.

"Greg, take a look. What do you think of Nat's work?" Eleanor asked.

Natalie looked up at him with eyes full of hope. She didn't care what the others said. She only cared about what Gregory thought.

Gregory merely glanced over briefly and muttered, "It's fine."

The same piece everyone else had raved about got a measly "it's fine" from Gregory. Eleanor's smile froze, and Blake looked just as uncomfortable.

"What's wrong?" Gregory's low chuckle came from just ahead.Anathea looked up and realized he'd leaned in just to hang his apron back on the hook behind her. And here she was, thinking…"Nothing," she said stiffly as she turned her head away. The next second, Gregory gently took her chin and turned her face back toward him. Before she could react, he pressed a soft peck to her lips."Morning." Smiling, he slid her plate of breakfast in front of her. "Eat while it's hot. We'll head out right after."Anathea opened her mouth like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just quietly started eating. After breakfast, they drove toward Roy's house. The sky had turned gray again, and a light rain began to fall. When they arrived at the location, Gregory got out with an umbrella in hand and circled around to open her door. Offering his hand, he said, "Watch your step."Anathea opened her own umbrella and walked toward Roy's house.Martin took the lead, knocking on the door.

"Why did Mrs. Sinclair…" Martin blinked and glanced at Gregory, completely confused."I think she's just shy," Gregory said with a straight face."Uh…"Martin's mouth twitched. He wasn't sure if Anathea was shy. To him, she'd bolted like she'd seen a ghost.Still, if he actually said that out loud, Gregory would probably toss him straight into the pouring rain without a second thought.Anathea shoved the door open."Whoa, what the hell?" Evangeline, who was going over some files, jumped at the sight of her. "What happened to you? Your face looks weird."It was flushed and pale at the same time.Anathea touched her face. She wasn't sure either. She made a beeline to the bathroom, scooped a handful of cold water, and splashed it on herself. It helped a little, but her heart was still pounding like mad.She pressed a hand to her chest and frowned slightly."Nat, are you okay?" Evangeline asked with concern as she walked over."I'm fine." Anathea took a deep breath and forced a

Gregory took advantage of the brief moment when Anathea's anger subsided to explain everything, including how he'd discovered that her car accident years ago was tied to the Watson family and how Roy had ties to them as well. That was why he'd zeroed in on Roy.Martin, watching his usually aloof boss anxiously trying to explain himself, couldn't help thinking that Louie would probably tear up if he were here.Because Gregory was finally explaining himself. It was practically a once-in-a-lifetime event."I never meant to look into you. I was just digging into what happened back then," Gregory said honestly."But you're the one who put my dad behind bars." Anathea watched him with a hint of scrutiny in her eyes. "So why are you suddenly investigating the case now?"Why was he reopening the case when he already had an answer? Did it mean he'd been wrong back then? Or had he done it on purpose all along? Even without solid proof of Adam's guilt, had he still used his power to send Ad

Gregory fried two eggs and crisped up a few slices of Spam. In another pot, he boiled a handful of macaroni. Once the pasta was done, he tossed it with melted butter, a splash of milk, and a handful of shredded cheddar, then topped it with the eggs, Spam, and steamed spinach. Before long, a bowl of creamy mac and cheese was placed in front of Anathea. The savory aroma rose into the air, making her swallow unconsciously. It did look a lot more appetizing than the takeout."Try it." Gregory handed her a clean fork and spoon with eyes full of anticipation.Anathea took her time with the first bite. The rich, comforting flavor filled her mouth. She hadn't expected Gregory's cooking to be this good now."Is it good?" he asked. After swallowing, Anathea replied with a nonchalant, "It's okay."But Gregory didn't look the least bit disappointed. Instead, he reached over, took her spoon, and stole a bite."That's my spoon!" She shot him a glare."We've kissed more than a few times. Sha

Anathea was the first to look away. She turned to head back upstairs."Mrs. Sinclair!" Martin called after her in a hurry. She stopped in her tracks. "What is it?""Uh… I've got something urgent to deal with. Would you mind helping Mr. Sinclair with his wound in the meantime?" Martin stepped in front of her, looking genuinely anxious.Anathea's mouth twitched. Did he really think she couldn't see through this terrible acting and that flimsy excuse? But Martin stayed committed to the act. He met her skeptical gaze with a straight face and pleaded sincerely, "Please? I'll be back really soon.""No—"Anathea didn't even get to finish her refusal before Martin stuffed the medical supplies into her hands and took off like the wind."Hey!""Thank you, Mrs. Sinclair!"Martin disappeared in the blink of an eye, as if the wind had swept him away.Frowning, Anathea looked over at Gregory. He hadn't taken his eyes off her. Casually, he ran his fingers along the edge of his mouth, then

  • Why the Crocodile Tears?   Chapter 591

Anathea had clearly leveled up her sense of self-protection. She would now carry a variety of tools to keep herself safe.Gregory wasn't sure if he should be impressed or annoyed. It was good that she was alert, but she'd just used those tools on him. That part stung more than he would like to admit."So in your eyes, I'm no different from some pervert on the street?" His gaze locked onto hers."What do you think?" Anathea shot back coolly.Gregory fell silent. Whatever frustration he'd felt fizzled out in an instant, but his expression darkened.Anathea didn't want to waste time on this topic. "Why are you here anyway?"They were miles from Castenea. She didn't believe for a second this was a coincidence."I'm on a business trip," Gregory said flatly."You too?" Anathea looked at him suspiciously. He flicked her a glance with a poker face. "What, are business trips trademarked by you now, Ms. Jacobson? No one else is allowed to go on business trips?""Whatever."Anathea was
