Chapter 62

Author: Flower Sock
Even though Anathea hadn't said anything at the time, Jenny still felt those words must have hurt her.

Xander also remembered that he hadn't been very nice to Anathea. But a child's temper changed quickly. "I'll apologize to Mom, then. She'll forgive me, right?"

In his mind, as long as he apologized, everything would be fine. Adults usually didn't hold grudges against kids, after all.

Before Jenny could say anything else, Xander immediately ran toward Anathea. "Mom."

He seemed to know that whenever he called Anathea softly, she would stop. Hence, he now spoke to her softly and sweetly, as if he were trying to charm her.

Sure enough, Anathea stopped walking. Xander's heart leaped with joy. He quickly walked up to her and apologized earnestly, "Mom, I'm sorry for being rude to you."

When Anathea didn't respond, Xander assumed she'd already forgiven him. So, he said eagerly, "Mom, I'm hungry. Can you make tomato and ham risotto for me? Only yours tastes the best!"

However, Anathea didn't go into Sinclair Group. Instead, she turned to enter the next-door building that belonged to Presgrave Group.Dominic had been vying for a collaboration with Presgrave Group, but Macon wouldn't budge. As such, Dominic had no choice but to attempt to curry favor with Dayanna.Alas, despite several attempts, Dominic failed to get close to Dayanna. He ended up sending Anathea to do the job instead. After all, who would know a woman better than another woman? It so happened that Anathea caught wind that Dayanna would drop by Presgrave Group this noon to give Macon his lunch. Sure enough, not long after Anathea claimed a seat in the lounge, she saw Dayanna emerging through the lobby."Mrs. Presgrave!" Anathea rose to her feet and approached Dayanna, smiling congenially. "Good afternoon. I'm Anathea Jacobson—"Dayanna recognized Anathea before the latter finished introducing herself. "Oh, it's you!"Anathea paused. "Do you know me, Mrs. Presgrave?""Gosh, Mr. S

"Why is this happening?" Anathea's eyes prickled. It had taken so long and so much work for Adam to regain consciousness. How could he not recognize her?Theo pursed his lips when he saw how devastated Anathea looked. He carefully put a hand on her shoulder. "He'll be fine. Don't worry."Anathea made no reply. She was truly worried about Adam. Was his amnesia a side effect?Half an hour later, the doctors eased Adam back into a slumber and emerged from the room. Anathea immediately approached them and asked, "Doctors, what's wrong with my dad?""He may have a blood clot in his brain that's compressing his hippocampus, resulting in short-term amnesia," one of the doctors explained."Is there a way to treat this condition?" Anathea pressed."We aren't sure yet. We could start a few treatments to clear the blood clot, and hopefully that'll help with the memory loss. But for now, the patient is too weak to undergo treatment. He'll have to recuperate for some time."Anathea tried t

Gregory's lips were pressed into a hard line as a storm brewed in his eyes, the air around them crackling with tension. But the next second, Louie yawned loudly and shattered the heavy silence."What's all the ruckus about? May I remind you that this is a hospital and not a farmer's market? If you wish to raise your voice, do it outside." He cut both Gregory and Theo a warning look before grumbling, "It's bad enough I have to work overtime, and now I have to deal with a pair of idiots."Gregory and Theo finally took their defiant gazes off each other, refusing to make eye contact again.Theo was the first to walk away, brushing past Gregory and hurrying off in the same direction as Anathea. He wouldn't be second again! He would be the first to reach her this time!Gregory watched as Theo took off like a wild hare. The corner of his mouth twitched as he scoffed in contempt. "How immature."He highly doubted Anathea would fall for someone like Theo."Anathea's had to put up with

"Keep it on, Annie." Gregory felt his breath was coming up short. He added hoarsely, "Don't wear someone else's jacket."Gregory had watched Theo drape the jacket over Anathea and had been brooding over it since. He hadn't looked all that bothered by it, but in truth, he was dying of jealousy. He wanted to claim every part of Anathea for himself, and he wouldn't stand for anyone approaching or touching her.Gregory was confident that if he kept pursuing Anathea, he would one day finally win his way back into her heart. But Theo just had to barge into the picture and ruin Gregory's plans, prompting a sense of urgency in him and driving him mad!Anathea studied the hard set of Gregory's jaw and his restraint, recalling what Xander told her before. She felt like her heart was caught in a spiderweb; the harder she tried to untangle the mess of silvery threads, the less she knew how."Anathea."At that moment, Theo's voice rang out, snapping Anathea out of her thoughts. He carried th

Anathea stopped short when she realized she was half-cocooned in Gregory's arms, his pine scent subtly tickling her nose. It was a far more pleasant scent than antiseptic, but she quickly snapped out of her daze and stepped aside to avoid him.Having put some distance between them, she answered, "Just water.""You got it." Gregory bought her a bottle of water.Anathea was about to bend over and retrieve the bottled water when he beat her to it. He handed her the bottle."Thanks," she said, taking the bottle. Gregory's fingers flexed slightly and grazed the back of her hand. She couldn't tell if he'd done it on purpose, but when she cut a sidelong look at him, his expression remained the same."That's two bucks," Gregory pointed out."Excuse me?" Anathea asked in puzzlement."The water's two bucks. You can transfer me the cash," Gregory said.Anathea was silent for two seconds as she shot him an odd look. He was the CEO of Sinclair Group, for heaven's sake. Did he have to be so

Anathea turned down Theo's offer. "No, thanks. I'm not hungry.""You barely ate at the banquet, then you were so busy making sure Mrs. Campbell ate her food that you didn't bother grabbing a bite yourself. How could you not be hungry?" Theo countered.Anathea went still."If you're worried you'd be troubling me, don't. I'm doing this because I want to," he added, then drew the jacket tighter around her before leaving to get Anathea food.No sooner had Theo left than a woman's voice rang out. "Fancy running into you here, of all places."Anathea looked in the direction of the voice and was surprised to see Giselle. "What are you—""My family's sick. I brought them here to get checked out," Giselle replied.Anathea noted the shadows under Giselle's eyes, a clear indication that the latter had been so worried that she'd lost sleep. Anathea offered gently, "Let me know if you need help with anything."Now that Giselle was their company's legal advisor, it was only natural for Anath
