Chapter 4

I stopped in my tracks.

Whenever my parents were mentioned, my eyes would sting a little. The bitterness in my heart was hard to hide, but more than anything, I felt disappointed in the woman standing in front of me.

Nina thought she'd finally scared me into backing down, and a smug look appeared on her face.

"I'll forgive you for throwing a fit this time, but you have to promise me you'll never bring up divorce again. Otherwise, I'll go to your parents and have them settle this!"

I turned and looked at her coldly. "You don't have the right to mention my parents. If you won't agree to divorce, then I'll see you in court."

With that, I walked out of the house without looking back, leaving Nina standing there in a daze. She seemed unable to understand why I'd suddenly changed.

I went to the cemetery to see my parents first. After that, I asked a friend to help me find a law firm. I told them everything that had happened and got ready for the legal battle. I also accepted the transfer my company had offered me six months earlier.

I'd kept putting it off because Nina didn't want to move to another city with me. Now that I thought about it, maybe she wasn't unwilling to leave this city. She just couldn't bear to leave Mike here.

With nothing holding me back anymore, I could finally take a chance on my own future.

I just never expected what happened next.

A week later, when the court officially accepted my divorce case, Nina suddenly submitted a pregnancy report to the court, using it as a reason to reject my divorce application.

I couldn't believe how shameless she was, so I pointed out that the baby wasn't mine in front of everyone.

Nina immediately produced another piece of evidence, looking at me with disappointment.

"Andrew, you were still all over me just a month ago. So why are you saying the baby isn't yours now? Even if you don't have feelings for me anymore, that's still your baby!"

The video she'd submitted as evidence showed a man on top of her, and from behind, his figure did look a little like mine.

But it wasn't me.

Her convincing act managed to paint me as a heartless bastard who abandoned his wife and child. There was nothing I could say to change their minds. In the end, the court rejected my divorce application.

When I reached the underground parking garage, Nina blocked me at the elevator.

"Andrew, are you done making a fuss yet? I'm pregnant. If you don't want everyone thinking you're some jerk, then come home and take care of me."

I'd never imagined she'd try to force me to give in like this. I was left speechless by how shameless she was acting.

"Nina, do you have no shame? What does your pregnancy have to do with me? Why don't you ask the baby's real father to take care of you?"

Nina's face darkened. "Mike isn't available. He can't stay with me all day, and people might get the wrong idea. We are married, after all. Once the baby is born, I'll let you be his godfather."

I couldn't believe the twisted logic coming from this woman. I took a deep breath and did my best to hold back my anger.

"Oh, so you know what you did was shameful, huh? Then, let's get divorced. You two can finally make your relationship official.

"Nina, I don't think I've ever done you wrong. But what about you? You knew my parents always wanted a grandkid. They treated you so well, and this is how you repay them.

"You don't deserve to be their daughter-in-law. You don't deserve to be my wife, and you sure as hell don't deserve to be a mother. The way you're acting now makes me sick!"
