Chapter 9

Author: Creamy Heart
Tania did not take the vacation Elias had planned for her. Instead, she dove headfirst into her lab work.

After more than ten hours of intense focus, she stumbled out, her head spinning, only to find Elias waiting for her at the bottom of the lab building, a warm lunch box in his arms.

She took his hand with familiarity. "Bro, how long have you been here?"

"I just got here. Right on time to bring you breakfast, it seems."

Elias guided her to a gazebo nearby and sat down, opening the lunch bo

Samuel wandered around the Kingston University campus. This place held so many memories of him and Tania. He remembered spotting Tania, so innocent, in the crowd during a lecture he gave long ago. She reminded him so much of Lucy, even the tiny mole by her eye was in the same spot.He pursued Tania like crazy. However, Tania kept saying no. Eventually, Samuel's chase was not about his first feelings anymore. He just wanted to win her over.Samuel stopped outside the science building. In Lucy's second year away from home, Samuel, who often tried to win Tania's heart, was passing by the lab when he saw a fire.Through the smoke, he spotted a girl who looked just like Lucy!Thinking Lucy had come back, he did not think twice and ran through the crowd to shield her. However, when he realized it was Tania, not Lucy, he felt a twinge of regret. Saving Tania did not seem worth such a risk.Yet, there she was, safe in his arms, so he whispered sweet words and won her over.Samuel wa

The phone rang with news from the hospital."Mr. Ferguson, your wife's hospital checkup came back positive for gonorrhea. You should get tested as well."Rebecca sat on the side, tears streaming down her cheeks. When the hospital phone rang, she instinctively stood up and moved away from her son, her face showing discomfort. She even got up and quietly wiped her hands.Samuel watched his mother's every action in silence, not uttering a word.He thought to himself that if Tania were there, she would never look at him that way.The thought of Tania made his heart race.He did not mind that Lucy had passed on a serious illness to him, but he could not bear the thought of Tania's life being destroyed."Samuel, you need to take care of yourself. The company is swamped, and your two brothers are busy — one is applying for a PhD program overseas, and the other has a big board meeting today. You just focus on getting better here in the hospital, and I'll visit you when I can," Rebecca

Elias was keeping Tania company under a trellis of blooming wisteria, trying to cheer her up.The press conference had brought up memories of Tania's childhood. She tried to act like nothing bothered her, but Elias could tell she was upset. He ordered her favorite mini cakes from the hotel and sat with her as she ate.Elias noticed someone hiding behind the bushes not too far away.Samuel felt like he was sneaking a look at someone else's joy.He knew Tania well. When she was down, she would go to the terrace to eat something sweet. He just had to be there with her, and once she finished her treat, she would feel better. However, Samuel knew his presence was just a formality. He did not really care about the little things that made Tania sad.All that mattered to him was that she could make him happy.Samuel knew he was not the favorite in the Ferguson family. He was just one of many heirs, and the unlucky one who had a genetic illness. After his illness was discovered, his p

Elias wrapped his arm around Tania, guiding her away from the bustling press.Night had fallen, and a chilly breeze was blowing.Without thinking, Elias slipped off his jacket and placed it gently on Tania's shoulders.Tania shivered from the cold and nestled closer into Elias's embrace.Samuel stood in the crowd, his gaze fixed on Tania from afar.Whispers and stares surrounded him.Lucy lay unconscious on the ground, but Samuel had no intention of helping her.He watched Tania's figure disappearing into the night, watched her seek comfort in another man's arms, and felt an urge to chase after her, leaving the press behind. He longed to grab Tania, and ask whether, with all his regrets, there was still a chance to start over again. However, all he grasped was a breeze scented with Tania's hair.Samuel walked the twenty-plus kilometers home. His phone would not stop ringing, and with a huff of annoyance, he shut it off.He arrived at the Ferguson family mansion, the home he

Lucy was too scared to say anything. If she slandered the Russell family, she would spend the rest of her life in jail.Lucy's eyes rolled back as she pretended to faint, collapsing to the ground.Tania did not waste a second. She knelt down, ready to give Lucy CPR."Lucy, you know that when you do CPR right, it can actually break someone's ribs. I'm giving you thirty seconds. If you don't open your eyes and get up, I'm going to start."The crowd was not just reporters, lots of curious onlookers had gathered too.One of them recognized internet star Lucy and whipped out their phone to start live streaming.Lucy was even more scared to open her eyes.Tania just shrugged, like she did not care, and reached down to press on Lucy's chest. The second her hand touched Lucy's sternum, Lucy's eyes flew open. She looked around, confused. "Where am I? What happened?"She was pretending to have lost her memory.Tania did not feel like fighting about it. She got up, dusted herself off,

The room buzzed with whispers.Tania was as cool as ice.She pulled out her divorce papers from Samuel."Mr. Ferguson and I have split up. About me tricking Mr. Ferguson out of his money..."Tania just smiled and did not say more.Just yesterday, the super-rich Russell family had said Tania would start running parts of their business. Any piece of that business was worth more than all of the Ferguson family's wealth."To tell you the truth, I barely remember the presents Mr. Ferguson used to give me. It's funny that he kept all the receipts and even made a video to show everyone," Tania said, sounding a bit sorry, "I apologize for wasting everyone's time with this."Everyone got the joke and laughed a little. They were not laughing at Tania, though. They were laughing at Samuel.Even if Tania did not have the Russell family behind her, Samuel's ordinary gifts probably would not impress her much."As for the rumors about me cheating, I bet you all saw that video," Tania said w
