Edward’s pov

I sat in my office drinking a bottle of one of my expensive drinks when the door opened after a quick knock.

It was a board member.

“What do you want?” I swirled my drink as the ice fell apart in the glass.

“I’m here to see if you are still showing up for the board meeting,” he said as I groaned and shook my head.

This was frustrating. Knowing that I had to deal with him as a person right now.

“How about we deal with this later?” I said with a small smile.

“As much as I would love to let you stay here and relax, we have so many things to do. We can’t just let this go. We need you for the meeting so that we can discuss the next step to take. We have to meet some investors who would love to step into our company. We need to check the staff and maybe hire more. This is a seven-star hotel. It needs the best of the best. We can’t do anything without investors.”

I dropped my cup on the table with a bang as some amber liquid splashed out on the leather top.

I was so mad I could

Edward’s povI was on call going through all the scenarios, when I heard something in the corridor.“I'll call you back," I said to my spy and cut the call before turning to the slightly open door. “I know you're there, Charlotte." It didn’t take long before the door opened well and she walked in with her body half covered with transparent black lingerie. If I were attracted to her I would have had an erection but I didn’t like her one bit. In fact; I couldn’t care less if she died. That was how much I hated her.“You... you're still up.” She asked while staring at me with a little smile. All I could do was go around my desk and sit with my arms crossed.“Why are you standing outside like a thief?” I asked. And it wasn’t sarcastic so I don’t know why she was laughing.“I was…”“Eavesdropping,” I said flatly. “You think I didn’t notice? You’ve been standing there long enough.”She took a step toward me, then another, her hips shifting so that I could see exactly what kind of sin waite

Edward’s povI stood over him, arms crossed as I was expecting my answer. Either that or he would regret crossing paths with me. He’d been attempting to look arrogant before we’d started all this, but that facade was quickly cracking. I could hear his lips quivering against one another as he struggled for air and failed miserably while his eyes darted back and forth between me and the men lined up in front of him.“Speak,” I said in a flat tone as he gulped.“Look… you just won’t get it. Please just help me. Let me leave.”“You said I won’t understand,” I smiled. “Explain it better then.”“It’s not just me.”“Then who?”He snapped his mouth closed, but I’d finally had enough. “I’m done with this rubbish.”I nodded to the big man beside me as he walked up to pierce and punched him so hard his neck snapped to the side as he grained and blood seeped from his broken lips and detached tooth.“That was one punch,” I said. “Imagine what four can do.”Pierce coughed, teeth stained red. His

Charlottes povI blinked. “For… getting me out. For calling them. For…”“Oh… that,” he sighed. “It’s fine. You’re welcome.”My chest tightened. He was too calm. Too … Edward.“How did you even get that anyway?”“I was arrested wrongly,” I said while sitting on the couch close to him. “It was sort of a mass arrest or something. They didn’t say why at first.”“Mass arrest?”“Yes,” I said, but it came out too loud. “It was nothing. Just bad luck.”He nodded slowly. “Hmm. Interesting. And you didn’t think to call me earlier? Before they locked you up?”“I did,” I shot back quickly. “I called you. You picked up and then cut the call.”For a few seconds, there was nothing, and then he leaned to the back of his seat and gazed down at me. ‘I was… I was in a meeting,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t come. I’m sorry. Had to hear from Bryan about you.’I swallowed. A meeting. That had been his excuse. But the way in which he had said it… as if it were dismissal, as if there was no reply to make.“Anyway, I

Edward’s povI got home and dropped my keys on the counter and rubbed my hands hard over my face. I couldn’t help it as I started pacing back through the living room again. I hate pacing but there are some days when I can’t make myself be still. I went to the fridge to get out a bottle of water as I downed it and tried to keep myself still. It was time to end this.I dialled the number for the investigators. The phone was picked up. “Mr Bassett’, replied one of the investigators, his voice crisp, efficient.“Yeah,” I said, my words grinding between clenched teeth. “You’ve got Charlotte. Let her go.”He hesitated… then said slowly, “But… but Sir… She’s right on…”“She’s innocent,” I snapped before he could finish. “She was set up. Any idiot can see that. She’s my partner. She’s not rotting in a cell for something she didn’t do. She’s not even in the business world so how do you have an innocent civilian in your custody? I could take this up and I could make sure your investigations g

Edward’s povI stared at it, for about a second too long before finally snatching the phone up and swiping right to answer. “What?”His voice was fast, panicked to the point he hadn’t even taken a breath. “Edward… thank God you picked up. I need you, man. I need your help. Please.”Hearing him speak brought it all back… last night: the fight, the words, Eloise when she saw me with Charlotte… It all already felt like it was unravelling and now he was calling, pleading in desperation.“What’s going on?” I asked, my voice flat.“I’m in trouble,” he said quickly. “I have no idea how it even got to this point in seriousness. I’m under investigation and I don’t know why.”“You can’t be serious. It’s because of fraud.”“They think I did something I didn’t do. Somebody in my company… Someone framed me. I swear to you, I didn’t do any of it.” I rubbed my temple, trying to put off the pounding in my skull. “Do you know who was waiting for me at the office this morning?” I said. “Two fucking co

Charlottes povI pressed a hand to my mouth but it trembled so violently that one wasn’t enough so I added another. The officer closest to me rapped his knuckles on the table. “Cut the crap, Miss Charlotte. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll start answering our questions right away. What’s your involvement with Oscar? How long have the two of you been working together? What kind of transactions do you know about? Who else is helping him?”I finally lifted my eyes to his. “I don’t know,” I said through gritted teeth, clutching the edge of the table harder than ever. “No, no. I swear, I don’t know anything! You’ve got the wrong person.”The silence went on, stayed in the room with me. The scarred one shifted forward so suddenly that I flinched back. It was actually the first officer who rose to his feet, shoving the folder under his arm. “All right. As you wish.”The other man turned to follow him as I yelled.“I want to make a call!”They hesitated in the doorway and glanced back
