Edward’s pov

“Tell them I’m not ready.”

“They said it’s time-sensitive.”

“Everything is time-sensitive.”

“Sir, are you okay?”

I looked at him.

“Do I look okay?”

“No, sir.”

“Good. At least someone is honest.”

“Do you need something?”

I shook my head. “No. Just… give me ten more minutes.”

“Okay, sir.”

He walked away again as I shut the door and sat back down.

I looked at the bracelet.

I whispered again, “Eloise, where are you?”

But the room was silent.

She was gone.

And it was my fault.

I sat in the back seat of the car, quiet.

The driver asked, “Home, sir?”

“Yes,” I said. “Take me home.”

He nodded and drove me through the city as I looked out at the window and wondered how my life had taken such a huge turn.

This wasn’t how I had planned everything to go. I had planned everything to be good but it seemed like I wasn’t good at anything.
