Charlotte’s pov

I stared at the phone in my hand while sitting at the edge of the bed. I was thinking when the light from the window hit my face, yet I couldn't move, I was deep in thought.

Planning. My fingers tapped the screen slowly. I had one name on my mind.

Doctor Lennox.

Edward’s private doctor. The one who had been treating him for the past few years. The one who knew all his secrets. The one who gave him medicine every month. I let out a smile as I clicked his number and placed the phone to my ear.

The call rang twice.

“Hello?” a deep male voice answered.

“Doctor Lennox,” I said with a soft smile in my voice. “It’s Charlotte.”

There was a pause. Then he said, “Charlotte… It’s been a while.”

“I know,” I said. “But I’ve been busy.”

“I’m sure you have,” he said. “Why are you calling?”

I looked at the door to make sure Edward wasn’t near. He had gone out. I was alone. Safe to talk.

“ I wanted to check on Edward to find out how his treatment is coming alon

Eloise’s povThe teacher thought for a second. “I believe he’s the CEO of one of those big buildings being built downtown.”I couldn’t put my finger on this but something felt off.“Can you pinpoint which one?” I asked as she shook her head.“I wish I could. But you know this place is huge and so many people build companies here.”My stomach turned.“Thank you,” I said to the teacher before leaving for work.At work, I had my laptop open but didn’t touch it. I just kept thinking about him.My phone rang as I looked at it. It was a strange number.“Hello,” I picked it up and rubbed my temple.“Hey;” he said as I jerked up in anger. “It’s me.”“Wish I didn’t know who that was.”He chuckled. “Still mad huh?”“Who wouldn’t be?”“Shouldn’t you have moved past this by now?”“What do you want, Edward?” I said in a fast way as he sighed.“Just wanted to know how you were doing and work was going.”“It’s going good,” I said.Soon someone said something in the background as he told me he would

Eloise’s povJealous of this mysterious man who had managed to make my daughter smile that brightly. Who gave her advice I should’ve given? Who made her feel fathered. And the worst part? I hadn’t done anything wrong. I’d just… not been enough, apparently. That guilt crept in again. Like it always did when I thought about her growing up without a father. I tried so damn hard. I worked. I cleaned. I read bedtime stories with voices. Braided her hair, sang for her to sleep, celebrated her on her birthdays… and the thought of someone showing up to take her away from me scared me.I wiped the counter clean and blinked away the stupid tears that had started building again.I finished what I had to do and then served food as we ate in silence. The rest of the day went by like a breeze. She slept without me singing for her, which was a relief. It gave me time to go to the balcony and fold my arms to look at the city lights in the distance. Was he just being kind? Was it a coincidence? Or was

Eloise’s povI looked at Edward.“Please and please again,” I said to the man. “I’ve gone through a lot to get here. I was jumping buses and trying to make a name for myself and right now you're bringing whatever you’re feeling into this, which is going to ruin the job I just got. You might be the owner of this wonderful establishment and that’s fine, but I need peace. Let’s just agree to stay away from each other and try to work together. Can you do that for me?”He didn’t budge as he cleaned his nose and looked around the room.“You know, I’ve been going about this all wrong,” he waved to the door. “You can go. We’ll pick this up later.”I didn’t want to pick this up later with him. I just wanted him to let me be. Was it so hard for him to see that I didn’t care and wasn’t interested?I walked out of the room and headed to my office to pace around before Sandra entered the room. She saw me and stood by the door.“Are you okay?” She asked as I sighed.“I am,” was my answer. “What abo

Edward’s povMr. Kwan, our head of Hospitality Experience, spoke next. “We also need to address guest experience protocols. Are we following the Japanese model of anticipatory service or more western, laid-back hospitality?”“Both,” I said. “Fusion. I want staff who anticipate needs but don’t hover—efficiency with charm. Train the staff to read body language. I don’t want robotic greetings. I want intelligent service.”There were a few raised eyebrows, but no one dared argue.“Also,” I added, leaning back, “implement the room feature I talked about—AI voice-controlled ambiance settings in all penthouse suites. Lighting, music, scent diffusers.”“Won’t that push us over budget?” someone mumbled.“I didn’t ask about the budget,” I said coldly. “I said I wanted it done.”Bryan sighed beside me and scribbled notes. The room was quiet for a beat. Then Leona raised an unsure hand.“There’s one more thing… the press.”I met her eyes. “Go on.”She hesitated. “Some gossip columns have been sni

Edward’s povThe question caught me off guard. I looked at her and smiled softly. “No… I don’t have any children. Not right now.”That didn’t seem like a satisfactory answer for the little girl. Now she wanted to know more and why I wasn’t with child.“Well… why is that?” She asked.“Don’t bother about that little girl,” I smiled. “It’s a personal choice.”“To not have children?”After a moment I pressed gently as I tried to change the subject, “What about your parents? You only talk about your mum.”Selena nodded slowly. “Mummy said daddy’s dead. I never met him.” Her voice was small—careful.I felt something pang in my chest as I took in deep breaths.“What about your mom?” I tried to keep the tone light and casual.“Well, she’s fine. It’s just that I hear her cry at night when she thinks I’m sleeping and I don’t like it.”“Why is that?”“I think her boss is a terrible person. I don’t like him.”I smiled. “Sometimes bosses are very bad at their work. I’m sure if your mum worked with

Edward’s povWhen I was off from work, I didn’t go back to the mansion. No, I had the driver take me right back to the school. If I went home, there would be nothing for me to do and no one for me to talk to. Plus, what was the point anyway? The house was depressing, and it brought a lot of memories that I didn’t like—mostly bad ones. There were good ones, like the ones I had with Eloise, but then there were ones with Charlotte, and none of them were even remotely good.“Sir, Bryan is calling the car to know where you are,” the driver said as I sighed. This assistant job, Bryan was really taking it seriously. “What should I tell him?”“Tell him we’re busy,” I said, but just before he could pick up the phone, I told him not to do it.“Why sir?” He asked.“Just drive. I’ll answer him later.”The driver nodded and drove me to the school.***There was so much life there when we arrived. Children ran wild through the yard; their laughter and voices echoed in the sun-drenched air, a playg
