After deciding to scratch a mark into each tree she passed, Tessa discovered she’s been following the same path for four laps now. This solidified her suspicions that magic was at play here. ~Dainin~ Darkness surrounded Dainin while his body burned with volts of electricity coursing beneath his skin. He had no idea how long he had been trapped in this hell. His body could have been floating in the never-ending abyss for days, or even months, with only his erratic heartbeat reminding him he was alive. The combination of silver, and the wolfsbane they injected into his neck, weakened him to the point he couldn’t even break the wooden chair he was shackled to. She was entranced by the way each star disappeared, one by one, while the rising mist dressed the scene in an ominous haze. The beauty of the morning was trying to trick her into thinking the day would be like any other, but Tessa knew its secret. Evil and destruction were rising with the sun. So, she welcomed this moment of silence, after being busy all night preparing for battle. Her stomach churned when it slowly licked up along its blood-covered arm before its long tongue passed over the organ."I knew he would taste like a coward," it sneered, throwing the heart to the Rogues as if it were a treat for a dog. Tessa watched appalled as they fought over it until a chill brought her attention back to the red eyes of the beast."He was talking way too much," it huffed in annoyance as it stepped over John's lifeless body. ~Dainin~ The forest was quiet with only the sound of Dainin’s paws hitting the soil. In his haste, he jumped over a fallen tree, causing Sonia to cling to his back as if her life depended on it. “Don’t be surprised if we’re missing some fur,” his wolf complained, needing to distract himself as they pressed on. Their trip to White Sand was surprisingly uneventful since the house was abandoned. Escaping was easy enough, but Dainin hesitated when they reached the border. “What if we can make it to Tessa from here,” he wondered, looking off into the direction of Blue Ridge. “You know she would tell you, “The pack comes first”,” his wolf stated, but the truth didn’t make his first few steps over the border any easier. He huffed, signaling Sonia to hold on again, before running toward the packhouse. Once they arrived at the edge of the clearing, they hid in some brush and watched the fight. She tried to remember what happened before she lost consciousness, but all she saw was Dainin desperately running for her."Dainin! Once her eyes adjusted to the light, a brief wave of panic set in until she slowly began to recognize her surroundings."We're safe," her wolf assured her in a weak tone before retreating into her mind to rest.Tessa finally realized she was in the pack hospital and began to feel strength returning to her limbs, and warmth spreading up her right arm.
