Sari stood outside his cottage, he was already waiting for me to arrive. His stance was calm, his dark eyes unreadable, and for the first time in a long while, I didn’t know what to expect from him. I was trying hard to be calm around him even though I still feel scared.

“Are you ready for some training?” he asked.

I nodded hesitantly, biting my lower lips. My muscles were still sore, and my heart felt heavier than ever, but I needed the distraction. I needed to be doing something—anything—to silence the storm in my mind. And also to be building myself so as to awake my wolf easily.

Probably the chiefs could have been searching for me.

As we walked into the woods, the early morning sun peeked through the thick trees, casting streaks of gold on the forest floor. The crisp air bit at my skin, but I welcomed the chill. It was better than the heat that always came when memories of Kelvin invaded my thoughts.

I followed Sari silently. He was trying—offering me support, food, shelter—but

Kelvin POVThe financial records made no sense.I'd been staring at them for hours, cross-referencing payments and transfers, trying to trace where the money had gone. My father's letter had been clear. Someone had been paid to kill my parents. Someone with resources and connections. Someone who'd moved large amounts of money around the time of their deaths. But every trail ended in dead ends. Offshore accounts that had been closed. Shell companies that no longer existed. Transfers routed through so many intermediaries that the original source became impossible to identify.Whoever had done this knew how to cover their tracks."Anything?" Thomas asked from the doorway. He'd been helping me search for the last six hours, pulling records from the pack archives, interviewing wolves who'd been present during the investigation."Nothing useful," I admitted, rubbing my eyes. The exhaustion was catching up to me. I'd barely slept since discovering my father's letter. "Every payment leads to

"I'm staying. I need to document this place. Make sure what happened here can't be hidden or covered up."They didn't argue. Just nodded and started for the stairs, supporting each other. I watched them go, hoping they'd make it but not certain. That left the girl. Subject Seventeen. The Ghost Wolf child whose name had been erased along with her future."I'll come back for you," I told her, though I wasn't sure she could hear me. "I promise. I'll find a way to help you, or at least make sure you're comfortable. You won't die alone in a cell."Her eyes flickered toward me for just a moment. Recognition? Understanding? I couldn't tell. But I'd made the promise anyway.I turned back to Mike. "Show me everything. Every room. Every experiment. Every piece of evidence that this facility exists."We moved through the complex, and each room revealed new horrors. Storage units containing biological samples labeled with clinical precision. "Ghost Wolf essence - 94% purity." "Werewolf enhancemen

The door marked "electrical" looked exactly like every other maintenance access point in the underground tunnel system. Rusted metal. Faded warning signs. A simple padlock that appeared decades old.But when Mike pressed his palm against what looked like a rust stain, I felt the magic pulse. Recognition wards. Biometric locks. Enchantments designed to keep out anyone who wasn't authorized. The door clicked open, revealing stairs that descended into deeper darkness."How far down?" I asked, my senses straining to detect what lay below."Three levels," Mike said, his voice hollow. "Kelly insisted on depth. Said it would muffle the sounds."The sounds. I didn't ask what the sound was. I already knew. Screams. Begging. The desperate noises victims made when hope died and only suffering remained.I pushed him forward down the stairs, my hand on his shoulder both to guide and restrain him. The air grew colder as we descended, taking on a sterile quality that reminded me too much of Kelly's

And Christopher struck me as someone who didn't take unnecessary risks."Stand down," he ordered his hunters. They hesitated, then lowered their weapons slightly. "You have one minute to explain what you want.""I want to leave. With Mike. Once I'm clear of your forces, I'll release him with instructions on where to find his hidden files.""Unacceptable. Mike stays with us. You can leave if you somehow manage to break through our perimeter."I was already gathering power, preparing for what came next. "Counteroffer. I leave with Mike, but I tell you where one set of files is hidden right now. Proof I'm negotiating in good faith."Christopher studied me for a long moment. "Where?""Mike's basement vault. Behind a false wall in the wine cellar. Contains documentation on five Ghost Wolves in the northern territories. Locations, habits, weaknesses."Mike's face went white. I'd just condemned five Ghost Wolves I'd never met to Christopher's hunters. The guilt would come later. Right now, s

Christopher Newt didn't give me time to think. The moment his declaration of execution left his lips, his hunters moved. Not in a coordinated rush like Mike's warriors had. These moved like a machine, each piece working in perfect sync with the others. Three flanks left, cutting off escape routes. Three went right, doing the same. Two dropped back to cover Christopher himself. And the remaining four came straight at me.I phased backward, my Ghost Wolf nature allowing me to slip through space. But they anticipated it. The moment I materialized, silver nets were already flying through the air. Not normal nets. These glowed with enchantments, pulsing with magic designed specifically to contain supernatural abilities.I rolled under the first net and came up swinging. My claws caught one hunter across the chest, shredding his combat armor like paper. He went down hard but didn't scream. Just grunted and rolled away, already reaching for backup weapons.Professional. These weren't mercena

Kelvin POVEven as I said it, doubt crept in. Might have been involved. Not definitely. Not certainly. The investigation was showing me that certainty was harder to find than I'd ever imagined.Thomas nodded, though his expression suggested he wasn't entirely convinced. "What do you need from me?""Information." I gestured to the stacks of documents. "I need you to quietly pull files on everyone who was part of the original investigation. Guards who gave statements. Council members who drew conclusions. Anyone with direct involvement.""You think someone on our side was compromised?""I think someone wanted my parents dead and Ghost Wolves blamed." I met his eyes. "And if that's true, if there's a traitor still operating in our territory, I need to know before they realize I'm looking."Thomas's jaw clenched. "Understood. I'll be discreet."He turned to leave, but I called him back. "One more thing. Pull any records we have on financial transactions from that time period. Anything unu
