Damaris broke out of the forest in a run and didn't stop. Being this close to the house, she could sense that Ivone was in distress and she ran even faster. From afar, she caught sight of Zina, still with that bloody dress, pulling Ivone roughly by the hair towards the house, she barked once and ran ahead full speed. From the corner of the house, she could see some horses - three - and she feared that Alpha Prince Reyes was here already, if that was the case, the she could not allow Zina take Ivone into the house.
"Ah...!! Let go!" Ivone screamed as Zina roughly pulled her by the hair towards the front of the house. After Damaris had left with Triston, Zina had felt so pained and very much insulted, especially because she had lost a tooth, so she had immediately called for Reyes and put up a show of waterworks, telling him about Damaris' mating with the kingdom's rival, Alpha Prince Triston, and their plots and betrayal. She had gotten the response from him that she had wanted, and she also knew that Ivone was still in Nyxoria, somewhere around the house because Damaris had not left with her with Triston. She knew their hiding spot, she ad known it for a while now but had chosen to remain silent about it, and today she had been grateful for that choice. "You and your sister are done for!" Zina yelled as she pulled the helpless Ivone. She had taken her sweet time while she whad been pulling Ivone out from her hiding place, telling her about her sister's mate and their plots and betrayal and how Prince Reyes would make sure they got the punishment by death. Ivone was weak, she had always known that, even her wolf was smaller, just barely larger than the regular pet dogs, so when it came to strength, Zina knew she was maybe just as strong as Damaris, but definitely much stronger than Ivone. "Let me go!" Ivone continued to resist Zina, "Let me go right now! I know what you're saying are nothing but lies! They are all lies!" Zina laughed, "I don't care if you believe me, but I'm most certain your sister would come for you, and for that reason alone, we will have to keep you alive, you can ask her all these questions yourself when you see her, and then it's lights out for the both of you!" "You're a bitter and vile person, Zina!" Ivone yelled and Zina let go of her hair. Because she was pulling against Zina, she stumbled back and landed on the ground when Zina let go of her. Fuming, Zina walked over to her, seized her by the hair so she was on her knees with her face exposed to her and dealt with her a slap. Ivone sreeamed in pain. Still holding her face up by the hair, Zina slapped her again and again even when Ivone brought her hands up to protect her face, Zina didn't stop. A wide grin grew on her face as she dealt Ivone slap after slap. Completely distracted by her imagination of what would befall Ivone, she did not notice the huge brown werewolf running towards her until she had gotten too close. Damaris slammed into Zina hard, sending her flying till her body hit the wall of the house. Quickly she transformed into her human self and made to lift Ivone up. "Ivy," she called as she struggled to lift her disoriented sister up from the ground, "Get up quickly, we need to leave!" "Dami?" Ivone said and looked up at her sister, tears beginning to brim in her eyes. Quickly, she pushed herself up from the ground and crashed into her sister's arms, "Where did you go? You left me here!" she cried. "I'm sorry," Damaris said rather impatiently and pulled Ivone away from her embrace, "But we have to leave here, right now!" "Hold on," Ivone said, "Zina was talking about you being mated to Alpha Prince Triston of the Redwood pack. That's Elyria. Was that him, Dami?" "Ivone!" Damaris yelled and grabbed her sister by the shoulder, she gave her a firm shake and frowned, "I will give answers to your questions and doubts, but right now...!" "How is that possible Dami?" Ivone cut her of and took a step back to move away from her hold, "If what she says is true, then there was no way you two would have been mated. You two should not have been mated." Damaris flared and seized her sister again by the shoulders. She could understand that her sister really hadn't grasped the gravity of the situation and Damaris knew here and now was not the right time to bring her sister up to speed on the new development, "We have to leave for Elyria right now Ivy! I will explain everything to you, I promise!" The door ro the house suddenly flew open with a bang, startling the two girls as they turned to see Prince Reyes dashing out of the house and running for Zina who was stil dazed and on the ground. "That's her..." Zina said with a shaking voice and a shaky finger pointed at Damaris, "That's his mate." Damaris' eyes widened and she pulled on her sister as she began to run, "Run," she said to her and immediately transformed into her wolf. Ivone did the same and ran after her sister, since she was much smaller, she was also much faster but she had to match her sister's pace because she was the only one who knew where exactly they needed to go. "They are getting away!" Zina said to Reyes as he helped her sit up, "Go after them!" "Easy, Zi," he said to her and then whistled, signalling to his men to come out of the house. He looked ahead as the girls ran and a sly smile came to his face. He had been looking for any excuse to get rid of the Ivone girl after her disgraceful mating with his sister, and this event had just played right in his favour."You were arguing earlier, weren't you?" Annora whisper caught her mother off guard as they hugged, her soft voice carrying a hint of curiosity. Her mother disengaged from the hug but she held her close by the arm with a smile on her face, "Was it about the peace treaty condition from Nyxoria?"Lady Ophni's expression shifted from tender to surprise and she shared a brief glance with her husband before returning her focus on her daughter. She disengaged completely from the hug and took a step back, "How did you know about that?"Annora shrugged her shoulders and maintained her smile, "Anything discussed in the throne room cannot be trusted to be kept secret, mother," she rolled her eyes good naturedly, "The servants whisper and the men talk in loud voices. The council members aren't exactly discreet.""Annora," her mother called, her voice trembling with emotions as she grasped her daughter's hands swiftly and squeezed gently, "Just say the word, all you have to say is that you do not
"How dare they expect me to be comfortable sending my only daughter to another kingdom over some stupid treat condition!"Lady Ophni's voice echoed through the castle's corridors as she stomped u the stairs, her footsteps heavy with indignation and pounding out a furious rhythm. Alpha Ardon followed closely behind her, his expression was calm but concerned. The letter from Nyxoria had arrived earlier that day, bringing news that none of them had been prepared for. The proposed treaty condition was clear and straight forward: in the interest to forge and solidify the fragile peace between the two kingdoms, they were to exchange one member of the royal family, that way, the peace formed between the two kingdoms would be secured.Lady Ophni's fury was palpable as she reached the top of the stairs, made her way down the hall and to their quarters and pushed the door open. Knowing her husband was behind her, she spun to face him, "My child sent away to a foreign land is a prospect I will n
"What does that mean for you?" he had asked with his eye brows furrowed into a deep frown. He knew what that meant as the weight of his father's words sank in, but he still needed a little bit of clarity. "Ever since your mother passed away, I have chosen to remain unmated," he explained as his eyes clouded over, "I knew the consequences, what it would cost me, but I had to focus on raising you." Triston was stunned into silence, his face was a mask of calm but his eyes betrayed his turmoil. His mind was still reeling from the revelation and he struggled to find a response. His father had just told him that he was dying and there was nothing that could be done about it. Or was there? "You can still find a mate," desperation crept in as he spoke. It did not show in his voice as he had masked it well, but it was evident in his eyes. Alpha Ardon's laughter was like a low rumbling sound. He choked, coughed and then continued laughing, "How old am I, Triston?" he asked with a chuckle a
They had called all the physicians they could call in Elyria but Alpha Ardon had turned them all away, saying that he only needed to rest a while to get his health back. Triston had never known his father to have a health issue, he had always been so rigid, like a pillar of strength, so when he had been told that his father had slumped suddenly, it had sent him into a panic. He had abandoned everything he had been doing without hesitation and as he ran all the way up to his fathers' quarters, his mind was filled with the worse case scenarios, his concern for his father's condition driving him to hurry. When he finally arrived the chambers, he was out of breath, his heart racing with worry. He was met with an eerie silence, the only sound was the soft rustling of the curtains in the breeze.Alpha Ardon laid in bed, supported by a stack of pillows that seemed to be holding him upright, providing more than just physical support. Despite his weakened state, he did not look like a man on
Reyes went back to the exact same spot he had been standing on the veranda after he had left the meeting room. His gaze was piercing as he gazed out to the forest and his frown remained, a testament to his deep contemplation. Although he seemed distracted, he was actuely aware of Dathan's presence beside him, waiting for him to say something because he knew his Delta had something eating him up on the inside concerning his declaration earlier. His move to lunch an attack on Elyria had been fueled by the need to and by his own personal reasons, his deep seated hatred for Triston for the death of his sister, Maya. He had predicted her death even before then and he had vene come to terms that sometimes some things or some people would have to be sacrificed for the greater good, to achieve a greater purpose and he had even counted his sister as one of such persons, but when it had come down to that and he had watched her die in his arms, he came to the realization that he actualy would n
His wolf's voice echoed in his mind, whispering a single word that sparked a maelstorm of emotions."Mate..."He stood on the veranda overlooking the courtyard with his gaze fixed on the stone railing as his thoughts churned and his mind wandered. Hours had passed since they had returned from the forest and the sun was still rising, casting a warm glow over the lndscape, yet he had been pacing this spot, lost in thoughts. His hands were clasped behind his back, his fingers drumming a slow rhythm as he struggled to make sense of his wolf's claim."Mate?" he whispered to himself, a frown etched across his eyebrows, "Of all the impoddible nonsense that could confuse me..." his words trailed off, leaving the question unanswered and hanging in the air.He was mated to Zina, bound by a committment that could not easily be broken. The idea of being mated to another was an unthinkable fantasy, a mythical notion with no basis in reality, and yet his wolf had sensed something different, somethi
"Is it possible for someone to steal another person's scent?"Ivone's question hung in the air, a perculiar look on her face as she asked Triston. The silence between them had been uncomfortable but her sudden question had shattered the tranquility. The query seemed to have come out of nowhere and Triston's eyes narrowed slightly as he studied her face, his eyes locking onto hers with an unspoken question. It had been almost an hour since her emotional outburst and hse had been quiet, lost in thoughts. He had been watching her, trying to guage her mood. She sat up in bed, propped against a stack of pillows, the near empty plates on the food tray testement to her having eaten. His gaze lingered on her half eaten meal before returning to her face. His expression was thoughtful, his eyes crankling at the corner and searching her expression for clues, trying to decipher the meaning behind her question and about what had prompted her to ask."What makes you ask that?" he paused, his eyes
Ivone's eyes slowly fluttered open, the warm golden light that spilled into the room like honey through the open windows took her a while to adjust to as they danced around, casting a gentle glow on her features. She lay still, her foggy gaze drifting lazily around the slightly familiar space as she struggled to grasp the fragmented memories that lingered in her mind like wisps of smoke. Her thoughts were foggy, like they were shrouded in a blanket of thick mist, her recollection was disjointed and her memories seemed to hover just out of reach. As she stirred, attempting to sit up, a gentle pressure on her hand drew her attention. She turned her head to the side only to see Triston, slumped beside her. He sat on a low stool with his head restig against the mattress. His hands craddled hers, holding them protectively as if guarding a precious treasure. His eyes were closed, his face relaxed, his breathing slow and peaceful and his features softened in sleep. For a moment, Ivone's hear
Reyes' transfomation into his wolf was lightening fast, the animal's dark fur covered his growing body in the same instant as when lightening flashed above their heads, catching Triston off guard. With barely enough time to react, Triston shifted into his own wolf form, his instincts kicking in to defend against the blow that was coming from Reyes as they both clashed in a fury of teeth and claws. The forest echoed with their snarls and barks and growls, complimenting and blending into the storm that raged around them. Admist the chaos, Triston's throught strayed to Ivone as his mind was torn between focusing on the battle and his concern for her as she laid motionless in the wagon. He had noticed the blood that slipped down the sides of the wagon even as the rain drenched it and he wondered if that was blood from their previous kill or blood from Ivone. A blow to the side of his head brought him back to the fight, but he delibrately held back, choosing to defend himself than lunch
