Chapter 30

ALEXANDER

It was early on a Monday morning when I heard my phone vibrate on the bedside table next to me. I ignored it at first, and ignored it again, assuming whoever it was would just reach out to my beta next. But then it kept vibrating, so I knew it had to be important. I carefully crawled out from the arms of my mate, letting her sleep, already missing her touch as soon as my body was apart from hers.

I snuck into the hallway to take the call, descending the stairs. “Yes,” I said, as soon as my feet hit the first few steps.

“Alex, you have to come home,” my sister said frantically. “Mom tried to kill herself.”

I thought my heart had stopped. While my father’s death was upsetting, my mother’s death would be devastating. “Fuck,” I said, not knowing what else to say. “I’ll jump in my car right now. I’m just over four hours away.”

I quickly ran into my room and threw my bag together. Before I left, I tore a piece of paper from my sketch pad, and wrote a quick note to my mate so s
