KAMARI POV

I kept my hand pressed against the cool glass long after Father and Zena disappeared from sight.

Home vanished behind the winding mountain road.

The carriage didn’t stop. Neither did my thoughts.

I reached into my pocket and wrapped my fingers around Mother’s pendant. The cool silver dug into my palm, grounding me.

You’re not weak, Kamari.

Father’s words echoed in my head.

I wished I believed them.

The road climbed steadily into the mountains, leaving Glendale behind. Dense forests gave way to jagged cliffs that seemed to scrape the sky. Waterfalls spilled down dark rock faces, disappearing into valleys blanketed with towering pines.

I’d never traveled this far from home. The world suddenly felt enormous.

Hours passed.

The coachman spoke only when we stopped to water the horses beside a crystal-clear stream.

“You should eat.”

He handed me a small parcel wrapped in cloth through the carriage door.

I thanked him quietly before unwrapping it.

There was bread, cheese, dried  venison. And, tucked into one corner…A honey cake.

I smiled despite myself.

Zena.

She must have slipped it into my bag before we left.

My chest tightened. “I miss you already,” I whispered to no one.

By late afternoon, the mountain pass grew steeper.

The air turned colder.

Then I saw.

At first, I thought they were part of the mountains.

Massive stone towers rose above the cliffs, connected by enormous bridges that stretched across impossible distances. Silver banners snapped in the wind, each bearing the same crest… a winged wolf beneath a full moon.

My breath caught.

Wolfstone.

It was bigger than every story I’d ever heard. It looked stronger and older.

The city had been carved into the mountains themselves, its walls blending seamlessly with the gray stone. Buildings climbed the cliffs in layers, while enormous beasts circled high above the peaks, their silhouettes cutting across the afternoon sky.

I leaned closer to the window.

They weren’t birds. They were far too large to be birds.  One folded its broad wings before diving toward the cliffs, disappearing beyond the walls.

Another glided effortlessly through the clouds, a rider visible on its back.

My heart skipped.

So the stories were true.

The beasts were real, only those worthy of the moon's blessing get blessed with a beast.

The carriage rolled beneath an enormous stone archway.Engraved across it were four words:

ONLY THE WORTHY ENDURE.

A shiver ran down my spine, The gates groaned open. There was no turning back now.

The Academy’s registration hall was unlike anything I’d ever seen.

Rows upon rows of new arrivals stood in orderly lines beneath towering stone arches. Banners bearing the crest of Wolfstone hung from the ceiling, while instructors barked orders from every direction.

No one smiled. No one spoke above a whisper.

One by one, names were called. Each recruit stepped forward, handed over their summons, and disappeared through the doors beyond.

The line inched forward.ck My palms grew damp.

Breathe, Kamari.

You’re just another student No one knows what you are

“Next.”

I stepped forward.

The official didn’t bother looking up. “ Name.”

“Kamari Walder.”

His quill stopped everywhere suddenly felt quiet

“…Walder?. He asked shocked

“Yes.”I responded, confused why he was asking again.  His eyes narrowed before drifting over my shoulder.

“My Lord…”

Confused, I followed his gaze and forgot how to breathe.

A man stood several feet behind the registration table, watching the line with unnerving stillness. He was impossibly tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed entirely in black.

Dark hair, tousled by the mountain wind, fell carelessly across his forehead. A faint scar split one eyebrow before trailing toward the top of his cheek, somehow making him even more striking.

Every feature of his face was impossibly precise the sharp line of his jaw, the straight bridge of his nose, the sculpted planes of his cheekbones. He looked less like a man and more like a god carved from marble, every flaw somehow adding to a beauty that felt almost unreal.

Then our eyes met.

His cold..  Cold enough to make every instinct inside me scream. Those piercing blue eyes held mine for only a heartbeat.

Long enough to make my pulse stumble. Long enough to make me feel completely seen.

His expression never changed. “ Move.”

Heat rushed to my cheeks.

“I—” words barely left my mouth

“Move.”

My feet finally obeyed, carrying me past the table before I embarrassed myself any further.

Behind me, someone leaned in and whispered just loud enough for me to hear.

“You should’ve moved faster.”

I glanced over my shoulder. A girl about my age gave me a sympathetic look.

“You don’t want to end up on Alpha Silas’s bad side.”

My steps faltered.

Alpha… Silas.

Silas Alindor.

The name hit me like a physical blow. Zena’s warning echoed through my mind.

stay the hell away from Silas Alindor.

I swallowed hard.

Too late. I’d already met him.

Commander Silas Alindor.

The name settled heavily in my mind.

So that was the man Zena had warned me about.

If a single look from him could leave my heart racing…

I couldn’t imagine what standing in his path would feel like.

One thing was certain.

For the sake of my survival, I’d do everything in my power to stay as far away from Commander Silas Alindor as possible.

KAMARI POVIf only they knew. There was nothing special about me, and if anything, I was probably the least qualified person in the entire Academy to be here because I had no wolf, no beast, and no bond, and if anyone discovered the truth, being called a spoiled princess would probably become the least of my problems.“Come on,” Rigina said, pulling me out of my thoughts. “We need to find that stupid book before I fall asleep standing up.”I nodded and followed her deeper into the Archives, trying to push the encounter with the boy out of my mind as I looked around at the endless rows of shelves that stretched all the way toward the high ceiling, each one packed with ancient books, scrolls, records, and texts that looked as though they had been sitting there for centuries. Some of the books had strange symbols carved into their covers, while others were bound in worn leather with faded titles that were barely visible anymore, making the entire place feel less like a library and mor

KAMARI POVSix hours. That was how long the run went on for the others, while I had been dismissed earlier because of my bleeding feet. I could tell Rigina was exhausted as we walked toward the Archives to get some reading done for the next class, which would be held in an hour, and honestly, I felt bad that I had been allowed to leave while everyone else had to keep running.“Arghh.” Rigina groaned, dragging her feet as she walked beside me. “I can’t feel my legs.”I couldn’t help but laugh softly. “You’ll survive.”“Easy for you to say. You escaped hours ago.”“I didn’t escape. I was injured.”“You were lucky.” I looked down at my feet, which were wrapped neatly in fresh bandages, and sighed. “I still feel bad.”“Don’t.” She shook her head. “Trust me, if Commander Rowan had made me stop, I would’ve gladly accepted.”I smiled faintly as we continued down the corridor, but my thoughts wandered back to Silas. He had been the one who stopped me from running when he noticed my fe

KAMARI POVIf not for the security cameras and the love I had for Father, I would have fled. The thought came to me every fucking time. I would’ve dropped out of this morning run, but I wasn’t in the mood to give that asshole Silas something to pick on me for. Thank goodness he canceled today’s training, but that didn’t stop his eyes from following me like a hawk. Today, we were grouped into Omegas and Gammas, each group running together except me, because they couldn’t tell what I was and I hadn’t shifted.“Speed up!” Commander Rowan of the First Wing yelled.I despised this so much. Exercise wasn’t my thing, and running barefoot was even worse. I’d kill for a blanket, some roasted pumpkin, and a sandwich right now. While the other packs picked up their pace, especially the Gammas, I dragged my painful ass along, knowing it was impossible to match their pace. Human and Lycan were a total lost battle.“If you keep running like that, Walder, you won’t be done till noon,” Silas’s vo

KAMARI POVRigina and I spoke for more than an hour, and having her with me wasn’t a total bore before she finally left. I looked up at the ceiling, wondering how I was going to survive staying here with no wolf or beast. I was already struggling to keep up with everyone, and now that Silas had made it clear he intended to make my life hell, I had no idea how long I would last. Then a voice came from the door. “See, you’re still alive.” My head turned toward the direction of the voice, and there he stood.Silas.I wondered what he wanted this time. Had he come to finish what he started? “What do you want?” I asked coldly, looking back at the ceiling instead of him.He didn’t say a word. He simply stood there with his arms crossed, watching me. “You must really want me dead so badly that you came here to attack me while I’m weak.”“Easy, Walder.” He moved closer and stopped beside my bed, his eyes roaming over me as though inspecting the damage he had caused. “I see no bones were

KAMARI POVThe last thing I remembered was being knocked out by that animal, Silas, and Darvin screaming my name. I opened my eyes slowly and found myself in the healing quarter, every bone in my body hurting like hell. I turned carefully onto my side and saw Rigina sitting beside my bed, asleep with her head resting against the wall. I looked toward the window and realized it was already nighttime, which meant I had been unconscious for hours. It was a stupid gamble pissing Silas off, but it was either that or getting caught, and I couldn’t afford to let anyone discover what I really was. Slowly, Rigina shifted in her sleep, and her eyes opened the moment she noticed me staring at her, relief washing all over her face. “Finally, you’re awake,” she said before wrapping her arms tightly around me.“Ouch.” I let out a soft, painful groan, and she immediately pulled away.“Sorry!” she whispered, looking horrified as she glanced over me. “I forgot you were practically broken.”I man

Silas POV Commander.” Darvin banged on my door. “Commander Silas.” He kept on banging, getting louder with every knock. “Open the fucking door, Silas. I know you’re in there.”I walked to the door and opened it, and his fist landed hard against my face.I clenched my jaw and tightened. Slowly, I turned my head back toward him, my jaw tightening as my eyes turned yellow. “You better have an explanation, Reid.”“You nearly killed her!” Darvin yelled, his chest rising and falling heavily as he glared at me.“She didn’t yield,” I said coldly my hand a fist. Waiting for him to dare try to strike me again and I was going fucking beat his ass. “She could barely fucking stand!”“She was still standing.”“You call that standing?” He stepped closer, his anger rolling off him. “She was bleeding all over the fucking ground, Silas. She couldn’t even keep her eyes open.”“She should have shifted.” “She told you she couldn’t.”“She said she wouldn’t.”“Whatever, she couldn’t.” Darvin’s voice har
