Chapter 2

مؤلف: Cocojam
The Vitiello estate was adorned with thousands of black roses, a lavish backdrop for our union.

At the end of the grand hall hung the family’s crest in dark gold.

A sharp blade, tangled in thorns. A symbol of this empire’s absolute power.

Dozens of high-ranking Capos in tailored suits were gathered—all of them Cassian’s bloodthirsty dogs.

The moment my heel hit the marble floor, all conversation stopped.

They looked at me with amusement, mixed with the kind of pity you give a dead man walking.

I frowned, moving through the crowd, and immediately saw why.

A black body bag lay in the corner. Blood pooled on the marble.

I stopped dead.

For a second, the smell of blood was so thick I forgot how to breathe.

Then Camilla, Cassian’s right hand, swayed through the crowd toward me.

She put on an innocent face and gave me a theatrical shrug.

“Serafina, I am so sorry. I was just trying to correct your mother’s little thieving habit. I only stepped on her a few times, just to scare her. How was I to know the old hag was so fragile? She just… stopped breathing. You’re not going to blame me for that, are you?”

Stopped breathing?

My heart hammered against my ribs.

She thought the body in the bag was my mother.

Before I could correct her, Cassian strode over, shielding Camilla like an unbreakable wall.

“Are you hurt?” he asked, his hand stroking her waist with extreme gentleness.

Camilla’s lower lip trembled on cue.

“I’m sorry, Boss. I never meant to ruin your engagement party. I just… I saw that poor woman sneaking around the vault, and I thought—”

He pulled her into his arms and kissed her hair.

“I know. It’s not your fault. You were protecting my assets and the family’s honor. You did well.”

Then he whipped his head toward me.

All tenderness vanished.

“Serafina, look what your mother did. Trespassing in a restricted area. Breaking a sacred family rule. Turning my engagement night into a disgusting crime scene. You should be glad I don’t send you to one of the family’s backroom casinos to pay for this.”

I stared at him.

At the man who was supposed to be my husband tonight.

At the mafia Don defending a monster who had stomped a woman’s skull in.

“Cassian,” I said, my voice unnervingly calm. “I think you should unzip that bag and see the body for yourself.”

He let out a contemptuous sneer.

“Why? So I can see your mother’s face one last time and feel sorry for you? Dream on. I have no interest in letting some poor old woman dirty my eyes.”

With the clinking of ice, Cassian’s sister, Bianca Vitiello, sauntered over, swirling a martini.

“Cassian, why are you wasting your breath on Serafina? This is all her mother’s fault for having sticky fingers.”

She crossed her arms, her face a mask of scorn.

“Father forced this marriage on his deathbed. A pathetic attempt to repay some 'life-saving debt'.”

She kicked the body bag.

“A fraud with cheap blood and a thief for a mother, and she really thought she could become our Donna?”

The surrounding Capos nodded.

“Bianca’s right. A poor mother-in-law like that is a leech.”

“What if she tried to steal from a rival family and they traced it back to us? It would be a huge disgrace.”

“Why didn’t Serafina keep her mother on a leash? Camilla did the right thing. Clean and simple.”

Camilla peeked out from Cassian’s arms, her eyes glistening with triumphant tears.

“But Serafina looks so angry. What if she hires a hitman to get revenge on me? What if she throws a bomb on my bed while I’m sleeping?”

“Don’t be afraid.” Cassian pulled his gun from his waistband and slammed it on the table. “As long as I’m breathing, no one will touch a hair on your head.”

He snapped his fingers arrogantly.

Cassian slammed his gun on the table again. “Serafina, swear it,” he demanded, his voice chilling. “Swear on your life in front of my Capos. Drop this vendetta. Promise you won't touch Camilla, and I'll let you scrape up this piece of trash.”

“Your mother’s death was an accident. She had it coming.”

“I’m willing to forget her attempt to steal the black diamonds. But you must swear a blood oath right here, right now, that Camilla walks away untouched.”

He glanced at the Rolex on his wrist.

“You have five minutes. My mother is on her way, and I refuse to let her see something so foul and disgusting.”

“Boss, the Vitiello Capos have been kneeling outside for three hours. Palms cut. Blood oaths sworn. They are begging to kiss your ring.”My assistant’s respectful voice came from behind me, filled with awe.“Should I let them in?”I didn’t move. I didn’t even turn my head. One month. In just thirty days, the map of the North American underworld had been completely redrawn. The Vitiello family, that once-untouchable name that ruled the underground, was now nothing more than a joke, a myth.I stood at the top of the city’s tallest skyscraper, wearing a custom wine-red gown.Beyond the cold, floor-to-ceiling windows, the glittering lights of the entire city bowed at my feet.“Let them keep kneeling,” I commanded, my voice flat. “Until they fully understand who makes the rules in the underworld now.”“Yes, Boss.” My assistant immediately bowed and retreated. The sharp click of approaching heels. My mother came over with two glasses of expensive champagne and handed one to me.“Well done, d

The scattered documents were like daggers, stabbing directly into Cassian’s pathetic pride. He knelt on the floor, his body trembling as he reached out a bloody hand to pick up one of the pages.Black and white. His most loyal Capos. His father’s old guard. They all signed the turf over. When he saw the final buyer’s signature at the bottom, the last flicker of hope in his eyes died. His pupils trembled violently, his lips quivered. He looked like a fish gasping for air, its throat squeezed tight.“It was you…” Cassian looked up, staring at me in disbelief. “You bought all my men? How could you do all this in just three days?”I let out a cold laugh. I stepped forward, my sharp stiletto heels clicking, and walked right up to him.Without mercy, I raised my foot. The heel ground down hard on the hand he had planted on the floor.“Ah!” A choked grunt of pain escaped him.The bones in his hand creaked under the pressure. But he didn’t dare pull it away. He just clenched his jaw, cold swea

“Boss, Bianca was captured by a local cartel on the Mexican border.”My assistant walked swiftly into my office, tossing several gruesome photos onto my custom obsidian desk. Her voice was filled with undisguised contempt and satisfaction.“She stupidly tried to run off with the last of the cash in the Vitiello vault. The moment she crossed the border, they took everything. Now she’s been sold into the lowest, darkest underground brothel on the border.”I sat in my lavish penthouse office, leaning back lazily in the leather chair.I swirled the expensive red wine in my crystal glass, watching the scarlet liquid stain the sides.“And Camilla?” I asked casually, not even glancing at the photos. My assistant sneered, her eyes full of mockery.“The Vitiello funds dried up. Their unpaid Soldiers mutinied last night.”“That woman, who used to throw her weight around because the Don favored her, was dragged to an abandoned warehouse and tortured to death.”My assistant paused, lowering her vo

“Madre! No! This can’t be happening!”Cassian’s agonized scream threatened to tear the roof off the hall.He threw himself onto the mangled corpse like a madman. His trembling hands tried desperately to wipe away the deep, gouged-out heel marks on his mother’s face, trying to piece the shredded flesh back together.Just minutes ago, he had been smugly praising these very wounds. The work of his trusted confidante, “defending the family’s honor.”Now, those bloody holes in her flesh were the blades flaying him alive.Bianca shrieked and shoved her way through the crowd. When she saw the ruined face in the bag, saw the black onyx ring of the former Donna…She couldn't even form a word. Her eyes rolled back in her head, and she collapsed onto the floor like a sack of meat. The broken glass and spilled liquor stained her dress, but no one dared to help her.Cassian slowly turned his head. His bloodshot eyes were those of a cornered, rabid animal. His gaze locked onto Camilla, who was on al

The room was utterly silent.People were barely breathing.Crash.The martini glass slipped from Bianca’s hand, shattering on the marble floor.Icy liquid and glass shards splashed onto her expensive heels, but she didn’t even notice.“You… how are you here?” Bianca pointed at my mother, her voice trembling so violently she could barely form words. My mother, cloaked in a deep black Paris couture gown, stepped gracefully into the hall. She was surrounded by a dozen elite mercenaries bearing our family crest. The flawless, blood-red ruby necklace on her long neck reflected a cold, hard light, the light of a true ruler. As the real power behind North America’s entire laundering network, her effortless authority made every mob boss in the room look like a cheap thug. She stripped off her white kidskin gloves. Tossed them on the table. She lifted her chin slightly, her cold gaze sweeping over Bianca.“Why shouldn’t I be here? Is this the Vitiello family’s hospitality? You don’t even le

I gave his gun a cold glance and didn’t even flinch.“If anyone is swearing an oath tonight,” I said, my voice dangerously calm, “it won’t be me.”Cassian’s jaw tightened. He thought I was challenging his authority as Don.“Serafina, don’t push it. Your mother was a worthless dog. No power, no brains, no value to this family.”He pointed the gun at me contemptuously.“Camilla is my right hand. She has a bright future. Are you really going to ruin her standing in this family for a dead thief?”Bianca scoffed.“Exactly. Your mother was a waste of space. Or are you planning to play the victim? Using this corpse to secure your spot as our Donna? You manipulative bitch.”Camilla pretended to wipe away tears.“Boss, this is all my fault. If it will calm our future Donna down, perhaps I should surrender my gun and atone…”“You don’t need to atone for anything. Serafina, this is my final offer. Are you swearing or not?” Cassian pulled Camilla behind him protectively, his eyes locked on me like
