Since Jairo only spoke when someone talked to him, Kara dragged him into the kitchen to cook with the couple so they could bond together. Ann helped too, which left Kara and Leo free to go to the river to catch some fish.

It was Leo’s idea and Kara liked it immediately. So they headed out together.

“Have you tried this before?” Leo asked as they walked.

She shook her head, her smile bright. “But I have always loved the idea of it. When I was a kid, I had an accident. The directors at the orphanage took me to the river to watch other kids fish so I would recover faster. They said it would help me get my excitement back.” she narrated, remembering the story she told Jairo about how how she had forgotten people’s names for days.

Leo’s steps slowed. “Orphanage?”

She nodded without looking at him. Her eyes lit up the moment the river came into view, and Leo understood she didn’t want to go deeper into that topic. He didn’t push it.

They reached the riverbank and a softness passed between t

Breakfast had already been served and Jairo and Kara were halfway through their meal when Luci finally walked into the dining room.Jairo lifted his head, expecting to see her dressed up the way she had been the day before. He assumed she had taken her time trying to impress someone or herself. Instead, she appeared calm and simple, nothing dramatic about her at all.Her hair was still styled the same way, half packed neatly on top of her head while the rest fell softly to her chin, covering her ears. She wore a simple pink top, loose white baggy trousers and sneakers with pink straps. Two delicate necklaces rested against her collarbone. She greeted them softly as she took her seat, picked up her cutlery and began eating.Jairo studied her quietly. He hadn’t seen her at all yesterday after returning from work. She had gone straight to her room and by the time he remembered to check on her, it was already late. Now that she was here, he wanted to know how her first day had gone.Kara

Kaicus stepped into his house and shut the door behind him, his movements slow and heavy as he shrugged his jacket off his shoulders. His movements showed exhaustion. He had barely took two steps forward before his eyes caught a footprint on the tiles. His instincts flared as his hand went for the gun tucked at his side. But before he could reach it, the sharp sound of a gun being cocked filled the room, the cold metal pressing close to the back of his head.“Drop the weapon,” a voice commanded from behind. The tone wasn’t panicked or rushed. It was controlled and confident. Kaicus raised a brow slightly, impressed despite the situation. His fingers loosened around the gun and he let the pistol fall from his hand, his mind however already calculating the distance between them.“Now,” the voice continued, “we’re going to do questions and answers. I ask, you answer. Are we clear?”Kaicus’ lips twitched.“Nope,” he said casually. “Actually, I have a question first.”There was a brief pau

Eva sat quietly in the corner of the room, her back resting against the wall, a thick book opened on her lap. The room was neat with soft curtains, polished floors and furniture that looked expensive. Anyone who walked in would think it was a guest room meant for someone important. The book in Eva’s hands was filled with explanations about who she once was before she lost her memories — what she was told. The man who kept her here, the one everyone called Don, had told her that he used to be a friend of her father. According to him, the only way she could remember her past was through pain. Beatings, punishments, discipline. He said it was a necessary process and not cruelty. So far, she had been lucky after so many years. There had been no beating or starving yet. As long as she spoke when spoken to, obeyed instructions and never questioned anything, they wouldn’t touch her. That much she had learned quickly. Silence and obedience were her shields. She lowered her gaze back to th

“What did you find?”“Nothing,” Donald replied as he slid the folder across the desk to Jairo. “Her background is unclear. All I could confirm is her career as an actress. Nothing more.”Jairo flipped through Ann’s file slowly, his expression unreadable. He had ordered the background check to see if she was connected to anyone within his circle or his enemies. Someone from Italy, maybe. But there was nothing. No ties. No familiar names. Nothing that raised suspicion. He shut the folder and pushed it aside when he couldn't find what he wanted. “Forget it. What’s my father planning?”Donald reached for another file but his expression shifted slightly as he did. Jairo noticed it immediately.“Alejandro worked on it. He probably has left it in my office.”Jairo’s brows pulled together. He stared at Donald, who avoided his gaze and scratched the back of his head instead before turning and stepped out of the room.It wasn’t Jairo’s habit to push people to talk about their personal issues, b

Luci stepped back into the hall, letting the noise and movement swallow her. A senior student, overdressed in a sparkling blazer dress was guiding the new students around. Luci had thought she was the one doing too much with her fierce outfit, but clearly she wasn’t alone. There were other girls who looked classy… just not loud like her.Kara had insisted she dress fierce for her first day. Open your mind. See if this is truly what you want, she had said. And now that she was actually here, in the middle of this crowd, all she felt was… loud. Too loud. Like her clothes were screaming even when she stayed silent. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn’t see the person in front of her until she bumped into them, hard. She winced, rubbing her forehead.“Watch where you’re going,” a sharp voice snapped.Luci lifted her head. A girl in a flashy, body-hugging gown and heels was staring at her like she was dirt on the floor.“You could have made way before bumping into me,” she fired

Kara and Luci finalized their quiet plan, and shortly after, Luci slipped out of her room. Only a few minutes passed before Jairo walked in. “Hey,” she greeted, sitting cross-legged on her bed with her phone in hand, her back resting against the headboard. “Hi,” he replied, already pulling off his shirt. “Eaten?” he sat on the edge of the bed and kicked off his shoes. “Yeah. You?” “No. I’m just tired.” his voice was flat with exhaustion. He shifted closer, and Kara set her phone aside. The moment he lowered his head onto her chest, she wrapped her arms around him and threaded her fingers through his hair. “You should take a shower,” she murmured but he didn’t answer. His eyes were shut, his breathing slow and worn out. He soaked in her warmth and scent as if it were the only thing keeping him grounded. It was obvious how tired he was. She pulled him closer, holding him without another word. “Has the issue been sorted?” she asked softly. “Someone will have to go down before tha
