Chapter 32

A wedding?

Ha, she hadn't known that they were so serious about each other in such a short period of time!

She wasn't too upset over this and only felt that she had been so blinded by love that she had failed to see Xiang Chen's true colors.

She pulled herself out of her reverie and said softly, "Dad, if Ruoyun wants to hold her wedding fist, then let her go ahead. I haven't discussed our wedding plans with Jing Liyuan yet."

Yin Baifan's brows arched at her words, but he did it so subtly that it was barely perceptible.

Li Meng seemed a little uneasy but her eyes shone with excitement. She rubbed her hands together as she said, "That doesn't sound right, Xiaoxiao. You're the elder sister, so why don't you hold your wedding with Jing Liyuan first? Otherwise, it won't look good in the news if it gets out..."

Xiang Chen looked at Jing Liyuan and said contemptuously, "Could it be that the Jing family doesn't have the money to fund a wedding ceremony? Jing Liyuan is just an ordinary surgeon, and I would imagine that it would cost a lot to marry the daughter of the Yin family. I guess it would be hard for them to hold a wedding ceremony since he doesn't earn that much. Shall I lend you some money?"

Yin Xiaoxiao's expression immediately darkened at Xiang Chen's words.

Even if she didn't know about Jing Liyuan's family background, she wouldn't have allowed anyone to insult her husband in that manner! Who would attempt to humiliate someone else in public? And this was the second time he had done so that day!

"Mr. Xiang, have you forgotten about what happened at Taotie Restaurant today? Do you think the Yin family treats marriage as a sale of their daughters, or perhaps you think it's a show?"

Yin Xiaoxiao clearly distanced herself from him when she addressed him as"Mr. Xiang" and Jing Liyuan's eyes narrowed slightly in satisfaction when she wasn't looking.

Xiang Chen felt like collapsing in shock when he heard how she had addressed him! However, no one else apart from Yin Xiaoxiao and Jing Liyuan was aware of their past relationship and he couldn't possibly retract his statement now, so he forced himself to bite back a retort.

"Taotie Restaurant?" Yin Baifan asked and looked speculatively at Jing Liyuan. "What happened at the restaurant?"

"Nothing much. Xiang Chen took me there for a meal and we ran into my sister and brother-in-law there..." Yin Ruoyun said. She wasn't being completely truthful but she wasn't lying either. She looked down shyly and added, "And Xiang Chen proposed to me in the room eighty-two..."

Yin Xiaoxiao's lips curved upward and she didn't have anything else to say. Yin Ruoyun relaxed when she saw that Jing Liyuan didn't speak either. Xiang Chen remained silent but he snuck glances at Yin Xiaoxiao, hoping to catch a glimpse of bitterness.

Yin Baifan looked at Yin Ruoyun with a frown and quickly changed the topic. "Xiaoxiao, discuss the matter of when you'll be holding your wedding ceremony with Jing Liyuan. Ruoyun will be holding her engagement ceremony with Xiang Chen next weekend and they'll be holding their wedding shortly after. I'll ask Zizhen and Ziwei to come home to attend your wedding."

"Thanks, Dad," Xiang Chen quickly said. He might have been a little slow on the uptake but even he knew that he had to change the way he addressed Yin Baifan. Yin Baifan let out a sigh of relief as now the Yin family was going to establish a stronger relationship with the Xiang family and he seemed a little more satisfied with Xiang Chen as his son-in-law. In contrast, he was growing more dissatisfied with Jing Liyuan and said disapprovingly, "Jing Liyuan, let me know if you have any issues. Don't keep it to yourself until the very last minute and humiliate us in public. Yin Xiaoxiao might have a poor reputation, but she is still the eldest young lady of the Yin family. This is not something that people like you who come from ordinary families will be able to understand."

Yin Xiaoxiao's expression hardened and she resisted the impulse to tell her family exactly who Jing Liyuan was!

She refused to believe that Yin Baifan would still treat Jing Liyuan in the same manner after knowing his background.

However, she reined in her resentment and said, "Dad, we will handle this matter ourselves. Please take some time to meet Jing Liyuan's parents over the next few days. I've already gone to visit his parents today and they will match your availability."

Yin Xiaoxiao wanted to crawl into a hole when she saw how the Yin family was treating them in comparison to how Jing Liyuan had shielded her from his family earlier that day.

"Sis, what is Jing Liyuan's family like?" Yin Ruoyun asked as innocently as though she had never been exposed to the outside world. "I would imagine that he doesn't hail from an ordinary family as depicted in television dramas since he's such a talented surgeon. He should have enough money to purchase an apartment at Cuiti Gardens, right? Then, we can be neighbors. Wouldn't that be great?"

Yin Ruoyun sounded like she was praising him even while she was putting him down. This was how she usually spoke! Jing Liyuan interjected coldly before Yin Xiaoxiao could speak, "Dad, are you saying that Xiaoxiao and I can hold our wedding immediately?"
