"Seriously? You emptied half the shop?" Miles leaned into the open trunk, staring at the bags of books. "You closing them down just so she'll talk to you longer?"

I exhaled through my nose and let my eyes do the sighing. "The store's bigger than my trunk, Miles. Just make sure you and Eric have them distributed like I said."

I didn't give a damn about books, my favorite salesgirl had fretted about them 'going to waste,' even after I promised they wouldn't. I intended to keep my word.

I hooked two bags and shouldered past him. Miles stayed there, still holding the hatch and staring inside.

"I'd never really understand love," he mumbled.

"Stand in line," I told him as I went inside.

Katya was running the treadmill while Eric was focused on a movie, a bowl of popcorn balanced on his stomach. I was about to ruin that fun.

"You back," Katya said, tapping down the speed.

Eric paused the movie mid-explosion. "How did it go, boss?" He glanced at the door behind me. "Is she dusting

I confirmed it the moment we hit the sidewalk that Dominic was an all-ladies problem. I had no idea it'd be this crazy walking with him in public. Most of the women kept staring at him, some of them whispering to themselves and giggling like some highschool teens. A few even shot me the look people give at auctions when someone else raises the final paddle.Well, it was hard not to admire someone like him. To be fair, he wasn't even trying. Just jeans and a tucked-in white shirt, first button undone, sleeves neat.Anyone could dress like this, but not everyone could 'look' like this.It wasn't until we got to the bus station that I realized we had a problem. I still wasn't used to using the bus, and I didn't want to be alone with him in a cab even if there was a woman with us."What? Let's get on the bus," He cocked his head toward the one already filling."I... I um..." I looked around. What was I supposed to do?"If this bus leaves, we'd have to wait for at least five minutes, Rali.

RALI"So, how was Dominic today?"Ridiculous how the question pulled a smile out of me before I could stop it."He was...okay." I played with the leather bracelet on my wrist."I see. Is he someone you'd consider a friend now?"My gaze drifted past her shoulder to the soft square of window light. "I... don't think so. We've seen each other for four days now. He's cool and all, but I believe 'friend' is still a word too strong.""Hm." My therapist jotted a line, crossed her legs, and looked up. The pen paused above the page."So, tell me, what do you feel around Dominic? And how is that different from what you felt around men before?"My fingers stalled on my bracelet as I sifted for honest words."Actually, I feel safe. Not completely safe to the point of being alone with him, but with him, I feel like maybe I can trust people again. Like… not everyone wants to hurt me. And you were right; not all men are evil."Her smile brightened the room a shade. "I am so glad to hear that fro

He didn't even pause. "Jade, Ethan and Elliot."Okay. Maybe that was an easy question."In a particular chapter, Jade and the boys went to a thrift store. What happened there?"He tilted his chin. "She met a man from the Wolves. Threatened her and shit."My jaw nearly met the floor. No way! He actually read!I blinked fast as my brain scrambled for something else. I threw more questions at him from different books, other series, and every answer landed clean. What the hell?"How did you do it?" I shook my head, half-laughing at myself. "I'd never been able to do that myself despite being here all day."Plus, I didn't think men read that much.Pride shone in his grey eyes; his shrug was pure quiet victory. "Let's just say I'm good when it comes to competitions. I love winning.""Wow. Then it's obvious you'll be the one winning the challenge with your friends.""I sure will."I shook my head. That was truly crazy.I turned back to the shelf, pretending I didn't know what was coming.‡‡‡

Her jaw unhinged a fraction; a comma hung between us."f you back out, you're admitting you know I can do it."Her lips moved without sound, as if the words were shy. She didn't even know how to handle conversations like this."Okay," she whispered in the end, under her breath. It was reckless. I hadn't read for pleasure in too long. I didn't even know how I ended up in this conversation with Rali. Simply because I wanted to keep hearing her talk, I'd agreed to a life sentence."I'll just get some baskets to put the books."Her eyes brushed mine—half a heartbeat, less than a second—and still it did something unreal to my system, like a switch flipped under my ribs."Your colleagues."She stopped, facing me again."How much have they sold?"Her brows knit. "Um... The highest is ninety."I nodded once. "Can I get a hundred and eighty books, then?"Confusion returned to her eyes, loosening her jaw."I'm—I'm sorry, what?""I'm trying to help with the task."Fear crept into her eyes. Fuck,

VOIDI'd never seen confusion look so pretty on a face. It perched in her eyes like a timid bird with no intention of leaving its branch.Rali Hayes. Right in front of me.If I were a vampire, I'd pull her by the waist, press her into the shelf, and kiss her until she forgot the taste of her own air. I'd thread my fingers into her short hair, feel the tug at her scalp, set my mouth to the hollow of her neck.I'd hook her leg against mine, slip beneath her denim just far enough to find skin. I'd slide along her thigh until my palm cupped the curve of her ass.I'd touch her in places that turned breath into moans, make her whimper in my arms, make her feel how much this man had missed her.And then I'd compel her to forget. Because strangers don't get forgiven for doing things like that."Y—Yes."For one stupid second I thought she was saying yes to 'that.' But then I remembered I asked a question that wasn't related.'She works here.'I glanced around the place. I was in a bookstor
