I nearly launched out of my own skin. The towel almost slipped from my grasp as I staggered back, hands flying to hold it tighter.
I turned toward the voice, and the moment my eyes found him, I forgot how to breathe.
He stood in the shadowed corner near the bookshelf—that damned dark corner that always seemed to drink more light than it should. He leaned there like he owned the place: arms folded across his chest, one boot crossed lazily over the other.
He looked carved from shadow, dressed head-to-toe in his signature black: leather jacket, fitted pants, dark boots, and those unsettling gloves.
The only color in him was danger.
And yet, even in this sinister appearance, his face was cruelly handsome. Aggravatingly sculpted. His beauty was the kind that left a mark, feeling like something you'd need permission to even admire.

Or—I tried. The hit landed, but it was like throwing cotton at a tank. He didn't even flinch. He only paused for a second, and when I tried to use that tiny second to free my leg, I realized he still had them firmly trapped in his hands. His strength was insane. I could hardly move a limb."Please don't tell me you fight with that fist," he looked up at me like he was truly concerned. "Fuck. We might really need to work on that, Rali."Blood heated in my face. Was the son of a bitch calling me weak?I tightened my fist and tried to punch him again, but in one smooth motion, he let go of one leg and caught my hand mid-air. His reflexes were inhuman. I barely saw him move. Not hesitating, I used the advantage of my free leg to kick him in the shoulder—or I thought I kicked him. He released my fist and rose with a grunt. In that tiny moment, I saw the rage in his eyes, right before he struck me in the cheek with the back of his palm. My head snapped sideways as my vision spun. I squee
The monster didn't flinch. He adjusted his stance, pinned one arm beside my head with a force that said 'don't even think about moving,' while the other curled around my waist. His knee wedged between mine. I could feel the roughness of his pants grazing dangerously close to where I was most vulnerable, and the intimacy of it made my skin crawl."You have no idea how fucking obsessed I am with you, Green." His voice was low, gravel-edged and intimate, and brushed against the sensitive dip beneath my jaw. Oh, God. This looked like a movie scene. If this were anyone else—a harmless man with sweet eyes and kind hands—I'd have melted. I'd have kissed him. But it was him—the monster. The monster who killed people without remorse. The monster who hurt me. I could never fall for anything he does, no matter how good he made it sound. No, I wanted to destroy him."You're the most perfect woman I have ever laid eyes on, Rali." His lips ghosted over my skin like he owned it. "For sixteen yea

RALIMy face paled. If I'd been drinking, I would've choked or sprayed the table in disbelief. I gawked at her, barely keeping my jaw from hitting the floor. She blinked innocently. "What? Void fights against the men of The Underworld, and judging from what you've said about your stalker, I have a feeling he might be one.""I uh... Don't you think she might be right on this one?" Ruby rubbed the back of her nape. "Seriously? Don't be ridiculous." I rolled my eyes so hard I practically saw the back of my skull. So much for finding a solution. Now we were diving headfirst into delusion."Come on, Rali—""What? How does anyone think this Void guy is some kind of Savior? What makes him any better when he only kills people?""He kills bad men to keep them away! Do you realize how much worse the country would be if the men of the Underworld operated as much as they did back then?" Veronica defended. "So, we justifying murder now. Is that it?" Ruby opened her mouth but said nothing.
RALII stood up, raking my fingers into my hair like I could claw the confusion out of my skull.Veronica rose with me while Ruby was still on the phone with the officer. "Rali—""No, it's not right," I bit out. "I was there, Nica. I watched him kill them. He... He," I paused, closing my eyes as the emotions threatened to crush me. "He killed Adam right in front of me. Cut him open like he was some animal."The air in the room suddenly felt too heavy, like it was pressing down on my chest. "He killed them. I watched it.""We believe you." Veronica stepped in front of me and grabbed my hands. "Even Meredith believes you. It's obvious he had the scene cleared out before they arrived."But how could it have been done so perfectly without leaving a trace?Ruby ended her call and stood to join us. "She said they'll keep looking and—""He couldn't have had enough time," I muttered. "Cleaning Adam's house that thoroughly would've taken hours and probably help. There's no way he did it
RALI The blindfold came off about thirty minutes later when we were on a busy road. There was no way to tell where we came from. It felt like a mirage when the car finally rolled to a stop in front of my apartment building. Home. I could cry. Veronica would be inside probably pacing like a maniac. I hadn't been allowed to check my phone even once, so I hadn't been able to reach out to any of them. Or even the police. "Can I get my bag now?" I asked cautiously, careful not to spark whatever fire was already brewing inside him.He didn't answer immediately, but I could feel his gaze shift toward me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him lean in. My entire body tensed like a loaded spring. But instead of grabbing me or pulling something insane, he reached behind the seat and dropped the bag on my lap.I reached for the door handle."I hope you do understand now, Rali—" his hand landed on my bare thigh, halting me mid-motion. "—What will happen if you disobey me; if you let anyon
