Chapter 2

Author: Little Hedgehog
The young man was convinced that I was just a freeloader, so he didn't even bother to speak to me politely.

I looked at him as he reached out to take back his employee badge.

Rubbing the badge between my fingers a couple of times, I raised an eyebrow.

"You think I live off her?" I asked.

"Are you not? Ms. Thompson works so hard. You're not worthy of her. Get lost. Don't come around the company again, or you'll just piss her off," he warned.

With that, he snatched the badge from my hand and clipped it back onto his collar, turning to leave. I watched his back and sneered. Everyone had been saying that I was living off Pamela.

However, they didn't know that back when Pamela's company was just starting and struggling with cash flow, my family was the one who put up three million dollars to save it from going under.

When things started getting on track, Pamela worked herself to the bone. To keep her from drinking so much and to smooth the road for her, I had reached out to some of my dad's friends in private.

We had channeled a flood of orders into her company. That was how she rose to success and became a powerful woman in the industry.

Now that the company was stable, she looked down on me.

Pamela must've forgotten how humble she had been when she begged me for help.

It had only been three years. She probably assumed my family had fallen on hard times because she saw us move from a villa to a luxury condominium, then to a smaller three-bedroom house.

I couldn't help but laugh. My parents just thought that the villa was too big and too empty for the two of them, so they moved to the current house.

However, they still owned the villa and condominium.

When I got home, I went straight in.

Seeing me, my mom asked, "Why are you alone? Where's Pam?"

"Mom, Dad, I'm getting a divorce," I revealed.

My mom was startled. "What? That's so sudden. Have you really thought this through?"

My dad's face darkened. "You've been married for three years, and now you want a divorce? Is it because we pushed her too hard about having a kid?"

I took a drag of my cigarette and let out a long sigh. "She thinks I live off her and am not good enough for her anymore."

At that, both of my parents burst out laughing.

"She probably thinks we've gone broke. You're not working, and now that she's achieved her goals by using you, she wants to toss you aside. Is she seeing someone else?" they asked.

I nodded. "More or less."

Emotional cheating was still cheating. Even if I wasn't entirely sure, the way Pamela treated the young man made it obvious. They were way too close to be just coworkers.

My mom slammed her hand on the table. "She's cheating, yet she has the nerve to look down on you? In that case, I support the divorce!"

I was a bit taken aback, but my mom looked at me and reassured me, "Don't worry. We're not the type to cling to someone. We don't need anything from her company, and we've still got some capital on hand."

My dad pulled me into the study and handed me a stack of documents. When I opened them, I was shocked. "Dad, you guys still have this much?"

My dad grinned smugly. "Of course. You think we'd go into business without the skills to back it up? We help in emergencies, not poverty. The three million dollars we gave her was like pocket change for us. If I dumped 300 million dollars on her, she'd come running and suck us dry.

"Originally, your mom and I just wanted her to appreciate the help and live a good life with you. I never thought she'd be such an ingrate—she turned her back on us as if we were nothing. Well, we don't owe her anything. Go all out. We don't need someone like her."

With my parents backing me up, I finally felt at ease. Since we had the money, I decided to go all in.

Pamela dragged me to get the certificate, and I breathed a sigh of relief. When we were registered for divorce the other day, William had come along. Now that we got divorced officially, he didn't show up. Was he trying to avoid suspicion?I didn't overthink it. Half an hour later, I had the divorce certificate in hand, and I felt completely relieved.Pamela gave me a vicious glare. "Just you wait!"I waved at her and turned to leave. Lauren was waiting for me in the car.Seeing Pamela gnashing her teeth put me in an excellent mood. Now, it was time to strike. Pamela had staked everything on the 900-million-dollar investment. She had even applied for a bank loan. She probably still didn't realize this was a long-term development project that required massive funding.Given their family's current state, they couldn't possibly handle it. My family used to cover for her, and my dad even filled in the gaps quietly. That was why she thought she was so capable. But now that our fam

"Mr. Knight, Pamela is getting way too arrogant. We've just confirmed that we're renewing the contract, and she's already demanding we lower the price by three percent!""Mr. Knight, we only agreed before because you guaranteed things on your end. That's the only reason we gave them that price. Now that they've gained a bit of power, they want to kick us to the curb!"They were all suppliers. Back then, they had only given Pamela any leeway out of respect for my dad.But now, Pamela was trying to lower the price again. The cost had already been squeezed to the limit, and she wanted it even cheaper. Naturally, the suppliers had had enough."Pamela and I are divorced. I'm now working at Mr. Smith's company. If you're interested, come find me," I uttered. Our former partners started coming to me one after another.Somehow, Pamela found out I was at Henry's company, and she immediately called me."Marcus, you're doing this on purpose! How dare you steal my clients!" she barked. I

"Why should I? It's not as if you own this place! You have no right to kick me out!" Pamela questioned."He may not have the right, but I do."At that moment, the crowd parted. Ethan and his wife, Aurelia Windsor, stepped out. Her expression was icy as she looked at Pamela."I organized this gala. No one has ever dared to bring a side piece here and act so outrageously. Pamela? Guards! Get them out of here!" Aurelia instructed. Pamela's face instantly darkened. I let out a soft scoff. I couldn't tell if she was just that brazen or pretending to be clueless.Aurelia and Ethan were famously loving in the circle. Everyone knew they were a power couple.Bringing a side piece to their event was basically a slap in their face.I had made a scene on purpose just to let them know that stupidity was contagious.Without me paving the way for her in secret, Pamela wouldn't even be qualified to be here.Pamela opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something more, but Aurelia didn't bo

I didn't expect to run into Pamela, and she wasn't trying to keep a low profile at all. William was right beside her. They were wearing matching outfits, openly flaunting their relationship. When William saw me, he immediately laughed and walked over. "Well, if it isn't my woman's ex-husband. So, who's the rich woman you're leeching off now?"He sized up Lauren from head to toe, clearly not recognizing her. When he noticed what Lauren was wearing—nothing from any luxury brands—his face showed obvious contempt."Marcus is just a freeloader. The moment he left Pamela, his true colors came out. He demanded three million dollars, yet he can't buy you a proper outfit," William taunted. Lauren gave him a once-over and said coldly, "You're wearing an old LH piece from five seasons ago. If I remember correctly, that's from five years back. It's impressive that you have it because you can't even find it on secondhand sites anymore."I was surprised that Lauren knew that much about brand

Back when we first got married, things had been pretty sweet. But after Pamela had a miscarriage and I stepped back from the spotlight, she got a taste of the luxury of high society and saw all the successful people around her. With so many temptations out there, Pamela changed. She became cold and distant. We had fewer and fewer things to talk about. My disappointment in her grew day by day, until now.I didn't say much and just waited patiently.Sure enough, three days later, Pamela contacted me and asked to meet at the civil affairs office. When we got there, she didn't show the slightest sign of regret. She just looked at me and said, "Marcus, you've got some nerve. You convinced my sister to help you. You want a divorce? Fine, I'll give it to you, and I'll give you the money. But from now on, you and your family better not come near us again!"She actually made me laugh. "Don't worry. I can say the same thing to you. Once we're divorced, don't bother me again. Don't make me

I jolted awake in shock. Why were they here?My parents were also woken up by the commotion and went to open the door, letting them in.It was Pamela's older sister, Lilian Thompson, their family's leech. She did nothing but eat, drink, and have fun.Her husband, Jayce Taylor, was with her. Both of them stood in the living room, looking furious. The moment Lilian saw me, she snorted. "Mr. and Mrs. Knight, what a great job you've done raising a son like Marcus. This is truly eye-opening.""Thank you. We know," my mom replied coolly as she sat on the couch with her legs crossed, looking at them.Lilian was stunned. In the past, while things weren't overly friendly, they'd at least maintained some basic politeness. Now, she didn't even know what to say.Jayce spoke up instead. "I have to say that you guys are truly something. After three years of living off a woman, he suddenly wants a divorce. Pamela called us and said Marcus brought up divorce and even demanded three million doll
