Chapter 350

Author: Hello Spring
“Okay.”

As Liz ate, William sat quietly across from her. He didn’t press her about why she had gone to her parents’ house and come back without eating. He didn’t need to ask. It was obvious her family had upset her.

In less than ten minutes, Liz finished the entire bowl of pasta.

“William, did you ever train as a chef?” she asked.

Otherwise, how could he cook this well? From the very first meal she had tasted, not one dish had disappointed her. Whether it was bold, spicy Mexican food or lighter Italian dishes, he made them every bit as good as any restaurant.

William gave a faint smile. “No. I just follow recipes.”

“I follow recipes too, but half the time my food turns out terrible.”

“That only means you don’t have a talent for cooking. Let me handle it from now on.”

Liz thought for a moment, then smiled. “Fine. Then I’ll be in charge of the dishes.”

“There’s a dishwasher. All you need to do is be happy.”

Liz frowned. “That kind of thinking isn’t good.”

“What do you mean?” W

“How can it not matter?” Kimberly’s face darkened, her dislike for Liz growing even sharper.“Your grandmother never wanted you in the company. The only reason she agreed was because of the Henderson deal. Now that Liz’s name is on the contract, why would your grandmother take you seriously?” The more Kimberly thought about it, the angrier she became.“Liz must have done this on purpose. She’s jealous of you. That’s why she sabotaged the agreement with Ms. Henderson. I never thought she could be this spiteful.”Mandy’s eyes went wide. She rushed to explain. “Mom, Liz wouldn’t do that on purpose. Don’t think that way. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have told you.”“Why shouldn’t you?” Kimberly snapped. “Her little tricks before were annoying but harmless. This time it’s about your future at Smith Corporation. She sabotaged it, and I will never forgive her.”For a split second, satisfaction flickered across Mandy’s face before she replaced it with worry. “Mom, she really didn’t mean

When Michael walked in alone, Kimberly let out a sharp huff. “See? I told you she’s ungrateful and impossible to please, and you still insisted on bringing her back.”Before she could finish, Michael’s hand came down hard across her face. The blow snapped her head to the side and left her swaying.Mandy lunged forward and caught her before she fell.“Dad, how could you hit Mom?” she cried.Michael ignored her. His eyes were ice as he stared at Kimberly. “I told you yesterday to have the kitchen prepare a few of Liz’s favorite dishes. Instead, you went out of your way to defy me. Have you gotten too comfortable in this house? Do you want trouble?”Kimberly clutched her stinging cheek and glared back, furious. “Didn’t I tell you I don’t want Liz here? If you were going to feed her, you could have taken her out somewhere. Why bring her into this house? I did it on purpose. Go ahead and hit me again if you dare.”“Do you think I won’t?” Michael snapped. He raised his hand again, but

“The driver is here. You can come downstairs now.”Hearing Michael’s deliberately softened tone, Liz frowned. “Got it. I’ll grab my things and head down.”By the time she arrived at the Smith residence, it was nearly seven and the sky had already gone dark.A housekeeper showed her into the living room, where Michael sat with Kimberly and Mandy. Mandy was pressed close to Kimberly, the two of them whispering and smiling over something. The moment Liz walked in, Kimberly’s smile disappeared. Her voice was flat. “You’re here?”Liz was long accustomed to her coldness. She simply nodded and turned to Michael. “Didn’t you ask me to come back for dinner? I’m here now. Can we start?”Kimberly’s brow tightened as she drew breath to scold, but Michael cut her off. “Alright. Let’s eat.”He rose and headed toward the dining room. As he passed Kimberly, he muttered low enough for only her to hear, “Keep it down tonight. Don’t start with her.”Kimberly pressed her lips together and said not

Riley bit her lip. “I went to the Sanders estate. I told William’s mother that he’s seeing a woman in Stanley City.”Walter’s expression darkened. He understood in an instant why William had been so furious.“Riley, are you out of your mind? What made you run to Mrs. Sanders Sr. with that nonsense? Do you want to get yourself killed?”Everyone in Halston knew that Mrs. Sanders Sr. had given birth to William at fifty. He was the youngest and the one she had always doted on. If not for what happened five years ago, William might already be running the family business.“Dad, I know I was wrong. I didn’t think William would actually move against Henderson Corporation.”“Idiot,” Walter snapped.Riley’s crying only made him more irritable. “Enough. Get out of my sight.”She wiped her eyes, stood up, and left the office. At the elevator, she saw Rachel standing nearby, watching her with a cool, detached look.Riley let out a bitter laugh. “Seeing me like this must make you happy.”R

At that moment, inside the Henderson Corporation president’s office. The instant Walter heard William’s words, cold sweat broke out across his forehead. He rushed to say, “Mr. Sanders, I’m sorry. I failed to discipline Riley properly. Please don’t be angry. I’ll make sure she’s dealt with.”“I don’t like giving people second chances. I’d rather they learn a lesson. The Hendersons don’t need to be involved in the Westside project anymore.”Walter’s expression changed. “Mr. Sanders—”The only reply was the flat tone of a disconnected line. The thought of the Westside project made Walter’s chest tighten with frustration. They had been preparing for that project for more than six months, and now it was gone in an instant. How could he possibly swallow that?He dialed Riley’s number, his voice cold. “Come to my office immediately.”Half an hour later, Riley knocked and stepped inside.“Dad, you wanted to see me?”Walter’s face was like stone. “Come here.”Seeing the anger in his e
