Chapter 6

Author: The October Guest
Ophelia watched calmly, then tilted her head back and finished the last glass of alcohol.

The birthday party did not end until late.

Ophelia spent a long time hunched over the toilet, vomiting, before finally making her way out of the bathroom.

To her surprise, Rowan was still there.

“Lydia gave you a hard time today because you kidnapped her yesterday. If you’re upset about it, you can say it now. Don’t go behind her back and pull something again just to hurt her.”

He thought her silence today meant she was already planning another way to hurt Lydia…

Ophelia nodded. “Anything else?”

Rowan frowned and studied her for several seconds, as though he could not believe how calm she was.

“One more thing. There’s a wedding party for Lydia tomorrow. She wants you there too, so you’re coming.”

He had not asked whether her face still hurt, or whether her stomach was still hurting. The only thing he cared about was whether she was going to hurt Lydia.

The last trace of emotion in Ophelia’s heart finally disappeared.

However, he did not know that she would not be coming tomorrow. She was leaving.

“Okay.”

She watched Rowan leave from behind and murmured softly, “Goodbye.”

On her final day in the city, Ophelia stood on the street with her suitcase, watching the grand celebration Rowan had arranged for Lydia.

Just one night had been enough to transform the entire city. Flowers and balloons were everywhere. Wedding photos of Rowan and Lydia covered the bus stops, streetlights, cafes… Everywhere Lydia looked, festive banners and decorations proclaimed their wedding.

Along the way, even the cab driver could not help but marvel, “I wonder whose wedding this is. They really went all out. Look at those wedding photos playing on the skyscraper screens. And those drones up there! I hear there’s even going to be a fireworks show later.

"Young lady, are you sure you don’t want to stick around and take a look before you leave?”

Ophelia smiled and replied, “No, I’m in a hurry.”

At the airport, she opened the wedding video a friend had sent her on her phone.

The venue had been decorated like something out of a dream. It was obvious how much effort Rowan had put into it.

The wedding dress Lydia wore was a one-of-a-kind custom gown inspired by a white swan, the exact dress Ophelia had once wanted to order for her own wedding but had been unable to get.

She was just about to close the video when a message from the delivery driver suddenly popped up.

[Hi, your divorce certificate has arrived.]

Ophelia slowly typed out an address.

[Please deliver the divorce certificate to the address I sent you. Thank you.]

This was her wedding gift to Rowan. She was sure he would be happy when he saw it.

Her phone suddenly rang. It was Rowan who called. Ophelia did not answer. She simply let it ring until he hung up on his own.

A moment later, he sent her a message.

[You have three minutes. Come out of the hotel.]

Ophelia did not reply to his message. Instead, she blocked his number and boarded the plane.

She thought to herself, ‘Rowan, from this day onward, you walk your path, and I’ll walk mine. We’re even. We owe each other nothing.’

Ophelia’s slender fingers curled into the man’s hair. Her face flushed bright red, and when she spoke, her voice was barely above a whisper. “You could do it now…”The man let out a muffled laugh and kissed her lightly. “No, we have to wait until after we’re married.”In the days that followed, the man seemed to have forgotten he even had a job. He was by Ophelia’s side every day, following her wherever she went. They discussed every detail of their wedding together and decorated their new home side by side.Every morning, she woke to a good-morning kiss. Every night, she fell asleep with a good-night kiss. There were little surprises waiting for her whenever she came home, and a warm light that was always left on just for her.Ophelia had never known what it was like to be loved in these small, tender ways. When she married Rowan, the Cabell family had never approved of her as their daughter-in-law. Even before the wedding, they had gone out of their way to put her in her place.

After that, Ophelia turned around and walked away. The moment she turned around, Rowan seized her by the wrist. His jaw was clenched as he growled, “You wish!”The next second, a gunshot rang out. Rowan’s body buckled, and he dropped to one knee. He looked down and saw the blood spreading rapidly across his pant leg. He had been shot in the leg. The pain was excruciating.Rowan had grown up spoiled. He had never been beaten by anyone in his life, let alone shot by a gun. His face went deathly pale. His grip on Ophelia loosen for a split second, and she immediately wrenched herself free.Eric calmly lowered his gun and warned him, “This is my final warning. You’re scaring her.”Ophelia did not even spare Rowan a glance. She did not care how badly he was hurt. Instead, she walked straight to Eric.Rowan’s veins bulged as he glared at her. He roared in fury, “Ophelia! Get back here! Come back!”A flicker of displeasure crossed Eric’s eyes. He raised his gun, ready to fire anoth

Rowan’s arrival brought the entire scene to an abrupt silence. Then, whispers began to spread through the crowd.“What the hell? Eric just confessed to a woman who’s already married?”“Wait, I remember now. The woman Eric confessed to is Ophelia Hart. I saw her nudes online before.”“Oh my. No, what is this? Some kind of soap opera?”“How could Eric possibly fall for a woman like her? What did I lose to?”“You probably lost because you’re not as open-minded as she is.”The suggestive teasing made the smile on Ophelia’s face fade.Eric’s expression also darkened. He merely lifted his eyes and glanced over. Several soldiers in uniform stepped forward quietly and escorted the gossiping bystanders away. The others immediately fell silent.“Sir, what exactly are you planning to do with my girlfriend?”Rowan ignored him. His eyes remained fixed on Ophelia as he called out absentmindedly, “Come here, honey. I’m calling for you.”The shock that had gripped Ophelia’s heart at his sudd

Before she could finish, Rowan suddenly hurled his phone straight at Lydia’s face. “You still have the nerve to ask why?”The moment she caught sight of the screen, she understood everything. Her eyes flickered with panic as she hurriedly reached for his hand. “Rowan, this is a misunderstanding. Please believe me. I can explain.”“Enough!” Rowan impatiently shook her off. “You thought it was fun to fool me, didn’t you? You disgust me.”Rowan turned away in disgust and waved a hand, signaling the bodyguards to proceed.Everything Ophelia had once endured, everything she had suffered through, Lydia was experiencing it all now. Her agonized screams echoed outside the bar.“I was wrong, Rowan. I was wrong.” Lydia tried desperately to crawl toward him and grab his leg. Her voice was hoarse. “Please, I’m begging you. Stop…”However, her pleas had no effect. What greeted her instead were heavier blows from the metal rods and the sting of salt water. Lydia was beaten until she was barel

A few minutes later, Rowan sat in the car, listening to the investigation results from his assistant from the other end of the line.“Mr. Cabell, Ms. Hart took the 8:00 am flight this morning. She was headed to Auria.”“Where is she now? If she hasn’t left the country, contact the air traffic control and arrange for the plane to turn back or land at the nearest airport. If she’s already out of the country, have her brought back the moment the plane lands.“She should have landed by now.” His assistant paused for a moment before continuing, “Mr. Cabell, I also found some things concerning Ms. Hart and Ms. Beaumont. Would you like to take a look first?”Rowan replied, “Send them.”“Right away.”A file and several video clips arrived almost immediately. Rowan opened them. The first video showed Lydia sneaking around the living room, secretly installing several hidden cameras. The second showed Lydia aboard the ship with the kidnappers, slapping Ophelia across the face while rantin

It was spotless and immaculate, without a trace of Ophelia anywhere. He called her phone, and there was still no answer. It was not until he tried sending her another message, typing out a string of question marks, that he realized the messages were not going through either.Ophelia had blocked him. He stared at the red exclamation mark on his phone screen as the anger in his chest finally erupted. He kicked the chair aside. A murderous edge settled between his brows. A suffocating aura hung around him, making the air itself feel oppressive. How could Ophelia have blocked him? How could she possibly think she had the nerve? After Rowan left the hotel, he went home.Lydia called him countless times, but he rejected every single call. The moment he got home, Rowan kicked open the door to the main bedroom.Ophelia’s belongings were all gone.
