“M-Mr. Fitzgerald.” The principal stared at Henry with a nervous smile on his lips.
“Ryle, are you okay?” Henry strode into the office and walked past the man to reach for his son.
“Daddy.” Ryle sniffed, more tears rushing out of his eyes when he saw his father.
“Why are you crying? Are you hurt anywhere?” Henry knelt on the floor, assessing his son’s body to ensure he was unhurt. His anger was simmering within but he kept it at bay. Comforting Ryle and ensuring he was fine was the only thing that mattered for now.
“Daddy.” Ryle wrapped his tiny arms around his father’s neck and Henry patted his back to calm him down.
When Ryle’s sobs died down, Henry got to his feet with Ryle on his arms and he turned towards the insensitive adults in the room. It was the principal and two other women whom he assumed one was the mother of the other child involved in this incident.
“A child is crying and instead of you trying to calm him down, you’re busy questioning my parenting methods?” Henry hissed, glaring at the principal who was sweating profusely.
“Mr. Fitzgerald, t-that’s not it. I can-”
“I don’t want to hear anything from you!” Henry cut the man off before turning to his son.
“Ryle, tell me what happened. Every single detail.” Henry’s voice was gentle as he spoke to Ryle.
Ryle lifted his head, his tiny hands wiping the remaining tears from his face.
“K-Kevin said I had no mommy because I killed her.” Ryle muttered under his breath, a fresh set of tears glimmering in his eyes.
Henry clenched his fists, his fury exacerbating after his son’s statement. His wife, Lauren, had died in childbirth due to some complications and he was forced to tell his curious son that his mother was in heaven.
He never, for once, believed Ryle was the cause for Lauren’s death. His heart broke to see how devastated his son was. Ryle hardly ever cried but when he did, it meant he was deeply hurt.
“But you know that’s not true, Ryle.” Henry comforted his son.
“Then why don’t I have a new mommy? Will I also kill my new mommy?” Ryle’s tears intensified and Henry hugged him closer, wiping his tears away.
“Y-Your son is lying! There’s no way Kevin said such a hurtful thing!” The woman tried to defend her child and Henry’s steely gaze fell on her.
“A four-year old child wouldn’t have possibly known all of this except he heard it from his mother. Next time, I would prefer you keep my family affairs out of your mouth.”
The woman flinched at his words but Henry could care less. He turned to the old principal who was trembling beyond measure.
“I pray you have another job waiting for you in the next ten minutes.”
“W-What? I-I don’t understand what you mean by that, sir,” The man kept his head bowed as though avoiding Henry’s gaze was going to make things better.
“Alex.” Henry called and his assistant stepped into the room. “I want Cream of the Crop Academy in my name immediately.” He said before walking out of the office wordlessly without sparing anyone another glance.
He carried Ryle out of the school building and Alex opened the door for them. Ryle was still upset so he kept his head buried in Henry’s chest. Henry decided to give him some time before he talked to him.
“I will inform the lawyer and have him start with the paperworks.” Alex said as he got into the car.
“Ensure the principal is fired and that Kevin kid is expelled from the school.” Henry ordered Alex before they drove off.

The volume of the cartoon figures prancing on the TV boomed loud in the living room. Henry reduced the volume of the TV as he sat next to his son.
He had decided to work from home so he could keep an eye on Ryle. His son had been extremely quiet since they returned from kindergarten. All attempts to make him happy had failed and Henry was starting to get worried.
“Ryle.” He called softly. “Are you upset with me?”
Ryle shook his head slowly.
“Then why are you not speaking with me? I thought you would be happy Daddy took the day off just because of you.” Henry playfully poked Ryle but the boy showed no reaction.
“I hate Kevin.” Ryle muttered with a pout.
“So do I but don’t worry, you never have to see him again.”
“Tell me the truth, Daddy. Did mommy really go to heaven because of me?”
“Ryle.” Henry sighed under his breath, not knowing how to convince his son otherwise. “What’s the one thing we promised to tell each other?”
“The truth.” Ryle responded.
“Good. So you know I’m telling you the truth when I say mommy didn’t pass away because of you. There are other things in life that happened but you can’t understand that for now.”
“Then I want a new mommy!”
“What?” Henry raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, prove to me that my mommy didn’t go to heaven because of me, by getting me a new mommy.” Ryle said with a small smile.
“Is that what is going to make you happy?”
“Yessss!” Ryle answered before turning back to the TV.
Henry got up from the couch and took out his phone to call Alex. His assistant picked the call at the first ring.
“I need to find a wife. As soon as possible.” He declared.
“Thank you so much.” Anaya watched as Samira smiled at the customer who turned around to leave. As soon as Samira met Anaya’s gaze from the opposite side of the road, her smile dropped instantly.Someone else came to purchase something from her kiosk but she remained unmoving, her eyes fixated on Anaya until the person tapped her. Anaya locked her car and crossed the road, heading towards the kiosk. When faced with no other option but to meet her uncle, Anaya searched about Charles and read about how his company got bankrupt and how he had to sell his properties in order to pay his debt. She thought she would feel sad to see how her once rich and money-grubbing uncle had fallen from grace to grass but strangely, she felt numb.Maybe it was because of the pent up anger and hatred she had built up for him and his family but she didn’t feel bad for how his life turned out. To find out what transpired between him and Daisy’s mother, she asked Maia to get information on his whereabouts.
“Good morning, ma’am.” The receptionist in the front desk at the law firm smiled warmly at Anaya. “Who are you here to see?” She asked politely and Anaya instantly took a liking to her.Unlike other receptionists who are either extremely rude or completely bored with their work, she seemed genuinely nice and her smile looked sincere. Somehow, her ambiance soothed the rage in Anaya’s head slightly.“Mr. Jetkins. I called him this morning.” Anaya muttered and the lady nodded before giving a call to the lawyer.Anaya’s heart was still beating fast at the possibility that her parents could have been responsible for Daisy’s father’s death. Joanne had informed her that the man was killed in a car accident on a rainy night. And he died the same year her parents had that accident that took their lives. She hoped it was merely a coincidence. And that both accidents happened on totally different days. But there was still a dark thought lurking in her mind. What if it wasn’t?What if her parents
“Good morning, boss.” Norah greeted as Anaya walked down the hallway, heading to her office.“Morning, Norah.” She replied absentmindedly as she took out her phone from her bag to dial Maia’s number. She was tired from driving two hours early this morning to meet up with Joanne and driving back to LA but the vital piece of information she received from Daisy’s mother was too important to just keep to herself.Joanne had told her that Daisy had a biological sister which she found out that Daisy had been keeping in touch with for a year. But who knows whether it has not been longer than a year? There was only one person Anaya was suspecting to be Daisy’s sister and that was Sandra. It would make a lot more sense if they were sisters, planning to ruin her life for a unified mission. Anaya tried to picture Daisy’s and Sandra’s face to check for any resemblance but her head was aching and she was unable to conjure up any image. The call went straight to voicemail and she sighed before cal
Tears filled Joanne’s eyes and Anaya felt guilty that she had touched a sensitive spot. But she needed to get to the bottom of this. Joanne wasn’t Daisy’s real mother? This wasn’t making sense.“I-I thought you knew.” Joanne muttered as her lips quivered. “Knew what?” Anaya asked.“I am Daisy’s foster mother.” Joanne revealed, dabbing her tears to hold back her tears.“I-I had no idea.” Anaya couldn’t help but stutter with shock. “Your love for her never once made me doubt that she wasn’t your daughter.” Anaya realized just how much she didn’t know about Daisy who had allegedly been her best friend for close to a decade. “Of course.” Joanne smiled despite the tears in her eyes. “I had never once thought less of her ever since she was brought home at just twelve years old. Even though I gave birth to Lewis just a year later, my love for Daisy never diminished in any way.” “Twelve years old.” Anaya murmured. That was the same age her parents had died. She didn’t want to think too mu
Anaya waited in the cafe, sipping her coffee silently as she waited for Joanne, Daisy’s mother, to arrive. She had to drive down here for two hours because Joanne told her she wouldn’t be able to come all the way to LA.Joanne had been reluctant to speak with her and Anaya could guess why. The last time they spoke was when she called Joanne to head to the hospital after Daisy smashed her head with the vase. She wouldn’t put it past Daisy if she had told Joanne the same story she had told everyone. That she was the crazy friend who had tried to kill her best friend because she was paranoid. It took a few calls and text messages until Joanne finally yielded and agreed for just an hour meeting. It was the only thing Anaya needed from her.Fifteen minutes into the agreed time, anxiety found its way to Anaya’s heart. She wondered if Joanne had a second thought at the last minute and decided to stand her up. Or had Daisy gotten a whiff of this and called her mother in time?Maia had taken pr
Anaya dropped her laptop on the coffee table in her living room. She moved to the kitchen to get the bowl of ramen and a bottle of water before heading back.It was the weekend and she was using this opportunity to work on the piled up files before work resumes on Monday. She had a meeting with a possible partner and she needed Norah to work on the presentation but her secretary has been delaying so she planned to work on it herself. With her work attitude, Norah wasn’t fit enough to be the chief secretary. Anaya had tried to convince Maia to come back to work but Maia asked her to give her some time. She knew it wasn’t going to be easy for Maia especially as news about her trying to kill Anaya had spread across the company. She wasn’t sure how that happened but she did her best to curb the damage, announcing that it was nothing but fake news.Anaya just wanted to get to the bottom of this Daisy and Sandra’s fiasco so her life could be normal again. And Maia could only be confidently r
