Chapter: Epilogue: Happily Ever After
EPILOGUE“What do you think?” Henry stared at her with anticipation in his eyes.Anaya took one last look at the mansion’s living room which was decorated in pieces of luxurious golden furniture imported from Asia. When Henry told her he had a gift for her, she wasn’t expecting him to have prepared a home for them to move into. This was one of the houses he inherited from his father. He had been furnishing it ever since she told him she was pregnant. The moment he parked his car in the driveway, she knew this was the home she had always dreamed of staying with her family. The neighbourhood was quiet and serene, she had her personal garden and the yard was big enough for the children to run around. She had to be careful not to scream too much so she wouldn’t startle the baby inside her bulging belly.“It’s the best gift I’ve ever received.” Anaya uttered, unable to stop herself from smiling. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.” A few months ago, she never thought she would live long en

Chapter: Cliffs And Edges
Anaya felt her heart leave her body when she saw Theresa standing close to the cliff with a sleeping Ryle on her arms. She wanted to reach out and grab her son away from the crazy woman but she remained rooted to the spot.Aggravating Theresa in such a vulnerable point wasn’t the best thing to do. A single movement and she would fall into the cliff with Ryle. That wasn’t something Anaya could risk.“Take one more step and I’ll drop dead with Ryle.” Theresa’s words were malicious, a deadly glint that Anaya had never seen shining in her eyes.“Theresa. Step away from the edge of the cliff.” Henry’s voice was calm but Anaya knew he was simmering inside.“No! I will not move from here until you promise to let Ryle go with me.” Theresa hissed.“Are you out of your mind? There is no way I am giving my son to you!” Henry snapped at her.“Please, don’t do this, Theresa.” Anaya pleaded, tears flowing down her face.“Why, Henry?” Theresa scoffed. “You seemed so fine moving on after Lauren’s dea

Chapter: A Chase Down The Mountains
Henry called his mother as soon as he saw the text message his mother left for him. “Pick up.” He murmured under his breath as Anaya remained frozen next to him.He could already see tears streaming down her face and he knew her greatest fear had come to reality. Theresa had been after Ryle.“Henry!” His mother’s shrill voice came into the line. “God, where did you put your phone? We can’t find Ryle anywhere. That wretched girl took my grandson away!”“C-Calm down, Mother.” Henry said even though he wasn’t quite calm himself. He was livid, boiling with an explosive anger. “I need you to stay in the house in case Theresa comes back. She’s mentally unstable. She might not know what she’s doing.”“She knows!” Anaya snapped. “She knows very well what she’s doing. This has been her plan from the beginning, Henry. To take Ryle away from us. I knew it. I knew my fear was justified. God, we made a terrible mistake, Henry. We gave Ryle to her. We handed our Ryle over to her.” “Anaya, please–”

Chapter: A Musical Disaster
Anaya took one last look at herself in the mirror to check out her fit for the night. Henry wanted them to wear matching outfits so she wore her pale blue palazzo trousers with a white off-shoulder blouse while he wore his white baggy pants and a light blue shirt. Her brown hair was curled and left to flow down her shoulders. To go with the look, she wore her white wedge sandals and carried her white midi hand bag. Her makeup was left minimal with just powder and shiny lip gloss. She was satisfied with her look but her anxiety about tonight was what sent her mood into a down spiral.Margeret said she was picking up an old friend from the airport and wouldn’t be able to make it until thirty minutes from the time she and Henry would be leaving. When Henry was getting dressed, Anaya sent a text to Margeret, pleading for her to do everything she could to get here on time. There was just something about leaving Ryle alone with Theresa that made Anaya’s stomach clench with worry.“Wowww.”

Chapter: Apologies And A Gift
Laying motionlessly on the bed, Anaya stared at the streak of sunlight that seeped into the room through the blinds. Despite the fact that she tried to cover the window to avoid the brightness, that single ray of sunlight still managed to slip through. It annoyed her a lot. She couldn’t even lay in the dark in peace? Why did it have to be so damn persistent in getting into the room? She couldn’t remember when she stopped crying last night but by the time she tried to stand up to lie on the bed, she nearly tripped over and fell due to the dizziness that wrecked her entire body.Practically crawling, she made her way to the bed hoping to find some moments of rest but her mind deprived her of that. She spent the night rethinking, evaluating and replaying scenarios in her head.Right from the moment Henry brought Theresa to the house till last night where the inevitable conflict reached its climax. She tried to figure out if she had missed something. If she was wrong with her assumption t

Chapter: The Height of The Conflict
“What the–” Anaya watched as Theresa stood up abruptly after being doused with the water. Henry got up as well as some droplets of water found their way on him.“Anaya?” Henry frowned with confusion on his face but Anaya’s anger wasn’t directed at him. Or maybe it was.She wasn’t sure what upsetted her the most. The fact that Theresa had the guts to scheme against her in her own house or the fact that Henry was too blinded because she was Lauren’s sister to see that Theresa was up to no good. Her blood was boiling and she so badly wanted to break something into pieces. Knowing she couldn’t result to violence, she raised her voice at the culprit.“What on earth are you doing sleeping on my husband’s shoulder?” Anaya gritted at Theresa who was wiping the water away from her face.“Anaya, I didn’t–”“Has this been your plan all along?” Anaya snapped, cutting her off. “To steal not only Ryle but to seduce my husband as well?”“N-No, you have it all wrong. I swear, we were just watching T

Chapter: A Jealous Ex
OPHELIASunlight streaming into the room wakes me up. My eyes flutter open and I remain motionless for a while, just long enough to recapture yesterday’s events. My life has been a whirlwind of blockbusters for the past few days and the greatest mystery of them all is him–Damian Crypthil. The very reason I had run away from home. Fate somehow had to make me a laughing stock. Because out of all odds, how on earth did I get married to the one person I tried to get away from?My hands fall lazily on my lips–still swollen after the plethora of kisses he laid on me last night. Heat travels down my neck as I recall how he held me against his strong arms. Then, he turned away.“This should have never happened”His words replay in my head over and over again until I can barely register my thoughts. I try to sense any energy coming from next door but I feel nothing. He didn’t even sleep here?“Three full moons.” As I straighten up from the bed, I utter. “Just three full moons and I will be fr

Chapter: The Cost of Salvation II
DAMIANSo kill them. His words echo in my head, over and over again. Not like a suggestion. But a command, a betrayal of every code I stand by. One of which he is familiar with. I turn to leave, not wanting to be here for a second longer. But just as my feet turn around, I freeze, my expression hardening. I feel the surge of anger and disappointment within my guts. One that refuses to be silenced and in a single heartbeat, I rotate back to him. “You know…” I start slowly with a chuckle. “For someone whose profession borders around saving lives. Someone who took the healer's oath, you don't seem very particular about upholding the statues.” Henrick looks up at me, his eyes narrowing just briefly. And then there is plain nothingness–an unreadable expression as he stares blankly at me. “I can't make the decision for you, Damian. But I do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done.” He says. I scoff bitterly again. “What needs to be done, Henrick? What did you do?”His eyeb

Chapter: The Cost of Salvation I
DAMIANI smell like shit. That–is the first thought that crosses my mind the moment I step out of the studio. Observing myself, I am covered in dried paint, pastel marks and tattered clothes. And my head bangs, from the episode with my wolf. Every muscle feels numb as I force my body to move.As I take another step, I consider what the others would say if they see me. The Alpha regent just had another episode and looks like crap. Oh, the rumors that would make. And the elders? They would jump on it. Milk it so that they could delay my coronation while they mock me in their corners. It is a risk I cannot afford to take. So I halt on visiting Henrick, and decided to take a shower instead. To clean up, with the consideration that when I am done Henrick should be available–in the infirmary. With my new course of action in mind, I head away to the guest chambers, mindful enough not to visit my bedroom. I don't want to spook Ophelia with my ghastly look. As I arrive, the breath of f

Chapter: Fractured Canvas
DAMIANI can still smell it–the scent of her arousal. It clings to me stubbornly, reminding me of what could have been. Of the pleasures I would be drowning in–claiming her body.Another deep breath, and I stagger away from the door. No, No more. I sigh again lumbering away. Even though my mind lingers there–to feel her touch, her body, her scent. But it is all too sudden.Even so, I cannot deny the yearning I have for her. The longing, the desire. And within me, I hear my wolf growl in approval, with an acknowledgement I could only understand– she's ours. No, I argue back, she’s my wife for the council's sake. Not ours. No more, no less. Ours. I ignore the beast within me. And everything that still clings on to her. Shifting my thoughts, I observe the moonlight filtering through the halls as I walk away, in search of a distraction.Something to take my mind off her. I need to focus. Making out twice in a short session, that's too much. Put your head in the game, Damian.

Chapter: Fervent Kisses
OPHELIAEverything vanishes. Everything narrated about the Cryptic maniacs and the calming mist flies out of my head as Damian leans closer. The temperature in the room suddenly turns into a furnace. My breaths get heavier and I’m unable to look away from the fire in his eyes. A blazing and unquenchable flame, that calls for me.My body jolts as though being struck by lightning and it’s like something magnetic pulls me towards him. Rationality tries to set in but the hunger in me–and my wolf–is greater.“D-Damian–” I emit a whimper as his large hand grabs my neck–gentle enough to prove he wouldn’t hurt me but hard enough to warn me.That I’m his to own. For as long as this contract marriage lasts. With his face inches away from mine, his breath on my face, his hungering, lingering stares. As though daring me to make the first move. And his lips—oh, these red lined lips. Hungering for a taste, I lose every sense of restraint. Everything that holds me back—my rationality and what i

Chapter: The Three Moons Bargain
DAMIAN The question feels like an attack. And I show this by letting out a low growl– enough to deter her. Or at least, make her go slow on probing the matter, for now. There is silence for a bit. I savour it, letting the crackles of the low burning fire in the earth distract me momentarily. But even so, nothing takes away the memory of the night– and the vicious attack of the wolves. Especially how she controlled those wolves with the ghost mist from her body. I should ask her.. About that. I want to argue that I should let go, for now. Allow her rest but my mind chides me even further– Nobody, in history and present has possessed that power– the power to calm and subdue madness. I am disturbed with this dilemma, battling against my mind. But just then, I hear her stir behind me. When I look over my shoulders, I see Ophelia, sitting up in bed, a soft sigh escaping her lips. The moment our eyes lock focus, something shifts in me at her curious gaze. Enough to make me si
