Chapter 4

Author: Star Pomelo
"Good morning, Ms. Ford."

Kiara whirled around to look at Stephanie. She wore a shirt with a V-neck. As she spoke, she'd tug her shirt downward to reveal the hickeys scattered across her chest.

Bile kept rising in Stephanie's throat, prompting her to turn on her heel and walk away.

Coincidentally, Tyler walked out of the kitchen with a plate of fried eggs. When he noticed Stephanie, he spoke up right away.

"Steph, let's head over to the company together later."

"I'm not going to the company." Stephanie didn't bother glancing back at Tyler. "I'm going to the hospital."

"The hospital? Are you feeling unwell?" Tyler placed the eggs on the dining table. "I'll go with you."

He was about to approach Stephanie when Kiara grabbed his arm.

"Have you forgotten about your promise, Ty? You told me you'd accompany me today…" She sounded pitiful and aggrieved.

As Kiara expected, Tyler stopped in his tracks hesitantly.

Stephanie seemed to have predicted the same thing as well. She left the house on her own, no longer caring about Tyler's phony acts.

As Tyler watched Stephanie leave, he felt slightly uneasy for some reason. But he was aware of how much she loved him. At most, she'd get mad at him for not accompanying her to the hospital. What was there to worry about?

Once Stephanie reached the hospital, she went through a thorough checkup.

"The state of your gastritis has worsened. I'll prescribe you some medicine. Remember to take it on time," the doctor said as he looked at the report.

Stephanie heaved a sigh of relief. Thank goodness she wasn't pregnant at all.

"Ms. Ford, did you overwork yourself again? Did you stay up past midnight and skip meals often?" The doctor wore a stoic look. "You might be young now, but if you don't take your gastritis seriously, you'll most likely suffer from major health problems in the future."

Stephanie could only smile bitterly in return. It was true that she had devoted all of her efforts to the project to the point that she neglected her own health.

But now, the project was in its final stage. There was no need for her to work herself to the bone anymore.

"Thank you, doctor. I'll be more careful with my health."

"And not just during this period, you know. You'll have to take care of yourself from now on."

"Got it," Stephanie replied softly. "I won't wreck my health ever again."

Once she grabbed her medication and left the hospital, she set off to the company. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she heard a gentle and kind voice addressing the other employees.

"We'll be colleagues from now on. Here's a little something from me. Don't be shy, everyone!"

"Wow! These are pastries from May's Delights! I remember that bakery being on the pricier side!"

"Ms. Grover, you're so generous!"

"I'm glad to see everyone liking these pastries!"

The colleagues in the Executive Office crowded around Kiara, who was distributing the pastries to them one by one.

"Ms. Ford, you're here!" A colleague greeted Stephanie when she saw her. "Come, come! This is Ms. Kiara Grover, our new colleague!"

Kiara looked at Stephanie, a smile tracing her ruby lips. There was a faint hint of provocation and delight in her smile.

Stephanie frowned slightly, but she chose to ignore Kiara. Instead, she walked toward her own workspace. Her assistant, Brenda Miller, scooted over instantly while wearing a resentful and upset look.

"Why must this happen to you, Ms. Ford?"

"What's wrong?" Stephanie turned on her computer as she wanted to refine one of the schedules in the project.

"You've put in so much effort into the project during this period. Why is it that others get to savor your fruit of labor?"

That was when Stephanie paused in her typing.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Mr. Grover just announced that the project you're in charge of will be transferred to Ms. Grover, effective today." Brenda sounded very miffed.

Stephanie could feel blood rushing to her head instantly.

No wonder Kiara shot her that look. It turned out that she got to rob Stephanie's fruit of labor that she had been cultivating for the past half a year or so without even lifting a finger.

Stephanie rose to her feet instantly. Then, she strode right into Tyler's office.

"Are you planning to let Kiara head that project?"

Having expected that Stephanie would confront him, Tyler remained calm and composed.

"You've been working far too hard for so long," he said gently. "In fact, you even visited the hospital today. I'm very worried about your health, Steph. That's why I decided to transfer the project over to Kiki."

But Stephanie just sneered in return. "The project is already in its final stage. The hard times are already over. Who will you list as the person in charge when the project ends? Who will be the one receiving the profit generated by this project?"

She almost ruined her health by working hard on this project. Yet, Tyler intended to let Kiara take the credit with just a simple command.

"Steph!" Tyler's expression darkened slightly. "I want Kiki to participate in the collaboration with the Fords. If she's listed as the contributor of this project, it'll greatly benefit me. Can you settle down already?"

"That's the heir to the Hawke family we're talking about!" Hank said, keeping his voice down. "And the Hawkes are the most prominent of the Four Powerhouses in Jetterpolis. Don't tell me you don't know what that means."Was the family loaded? Sure, but they were so much more than just a rich family.Tyler knew that very well, of course. He was just stubbornly trying to act like it wasn't a big deal."Do you want to say hi?" Hank asked.Tyler didn't reply. He simply stood where he was, eyeing Adrian coldly.Nearby, a scion had gotten drunk and was harassing one of the female servers. She seemed pretty young—most likely in her early 20s. It was clear she didn't like his advances. Frightened, she was on the verge of tears, but the other guys simply laughed gleefully.Just then, Adrian shot them a look, his gaze indifferent."If you're drunk, you should go and sleep it off. Why are you bothering the staff?"Although his voice lacked inflections, it carried a firm authority. The gu

"You're pregnant, Kiki," Tyler patiently coaxed her. "This sort of private meet-up won't be the same as Mr. Manson's birthday banquet."There was no doubt that Donald's 60th birthday banquet would be a formal affair with proper etiquette to follow. The guests probably wouldn't even be allowed to smoke in the venue. But when the wealthy scions organized such gatherings, they would surely be smoking and drinking a lot, letting loose however they wanted. It wouldn't be appropriate to bring a pregnant woman to such a place."That makes sense," Kiara said. She didn't want anything to happen to her baby either.Wrapping her arms around Tyler's neck, she said with a pout, "But you better come home early. I can't sleep if I'm alone in bed.""Got it."Tyler kissed her on the lips and reassured her a bit more before leaving. The address his friend had sent him was for a villa in a quiet neighborhood. The place had every kind of facility needed for these scions to have fun during their ga

Norman replied helplessly, "It's not that easy, Kiki. I got my people to try to track Stephanie down, but they couldn't find any trace of her. It was as if someone had deliberately hidden all information about her whereabouts."I only managed to send some people to Jetterpolis after you told me that she's there, but this is Jetterpolis we're talking about! It won't be so easy for them to make a move."His people hadn't even managed to catch a glimpse of Stephanie yet."You're useless!" Kiara fumed."I'm not useless, Kiki. Stephanie simply isn't an ordinary person," Norman said grimly. "It wouldn't have been so hard for me to find her if she were just your average woman."Kiara's heart jolted. The terrifying possibility occurred to her again.Stephanie Ford… and the daughter of the Ford family…No, it couldn't be!"Stop making excuses for your incompetence!" Kiara screamed, as if she could mask her fear by being loud enough."You're saying it's difficult, huh? Fine. I'll give you

Kiara noticed that, besides the message, Tyler also sent Stephanie the address to one of the properties he owned in Jetterpolis. But he'd clearly told Kiara they were going to stay somewhere else. Did this mean he was going to settle her elsewhere before meeting up with Stephanie after? Her fingers trembled against the screen, its light making her face look even paler.Sneering, she threw the phone back at Tyler. "You couldn't even wait, huh, Ty?" Tyler frowned. "Since we're here in Jetterpolis, I should meet Steph and bring her back."She was his woman. How could he let her be apart from him?Just the thought of Andrew possibly setting his sights on her also made Tyler extremely uncomfortable."Take her back, and then what?" Kiara asked mockingly. "Let her witness our happy family of three?""Kiki, don't let Steph find out about your pregnancy."Kiara clutched her abdomen, her eyes reddening. "Are you afraid that once she finds out, she won't ever return to your side?"Alth

"You know, I'm not completely out of touch with the real world," Adrian said somewhat helplessly.Of course, most importantly, he wanted to spend time with Stephanie. Even if he had to go somewhere he never liked before, he would be happy so long as she was with him."Really?" Stephanie studied him. "It doesn't seem so to me."But then again, she was a wealthy heiress too, so why couldn't he go to the places she frequented?Adrian laughed. "Feel free to go on countless dates with me to see whether I'm telling the truth, Ms. Ford."He wanted to go on many dates with her, much like all the other couples in this world. As the car rounded the last bend of their journey, Stephanie abruptly lowered the window, letting in the cool breeze that carried the scent of sycamore trees.Brushing her hands against the seat belt buckle, she abruptly chuckled. "On our next date, I want you to play the claw machine with me, Mr. Hawke.""Sure," he said, agreeing to it right away."But I'll get up

"I'm fine." Stephanie nodded with a smile.Adrian's expression eased up a little, but when he turned to look at the two people behind them, his gaze grew sharp and imposing again. It felt as though the air had chilled around them.Intimidated, the two people immediately clammed up and scurried off, too scared to even collect their tickets.Picking up on the hostility that radiated from him, Stephanie tugged on his sleeve and said, "Don't be mad. I'm fine, really."She looked up at him, her eyes crinkling from her smile.Adrian's demeanor relaxed a bit, and he decided to drop it. After all, this probably counted as his first date with Stephanie, so he didn't want to let some unimportant people ruin things for them. When they entered the cinema hall, the lights had already gone off. Adrian walked ahead, carefully guiding Stephanie to their seats, his warm hand lightly clasped around her elbow.Their seats were in the sixth row, with an openly affectionate couple sitting in the sam
