Julia gasped for air, the panic clawing at her chest longer this time than before. Tobias’s grip on her hand was vise-like.

“Don’t you dare fucking move,” he growled.

“Can I at least go to the bathroom?”

He gave a curt nod, his phone ringing as he stepped away. She didn’t hesitate, bolted the second his back was turned. Her legs burned as she sprinted, not stopping until they gave out. Disoriented, she glanced around, realizing she had no clue where she was. Ducking into a liquor store, she grabbed a water bottle, her hands trembling.

The moment she turned, he was there, inches from her face. His fingers dug into her arm. “Move,” he barked.

He shoved her into the car, his silence suffocating. The mansion loomed ahead, and he dragged her inside, straight to the bedroom. The slaps came hard and fast, her lip split, blood staining her chin. He yanked her hair, forcing her to meet his eyes.

“Look at me,” he snarled. “You don’t get to leave. Ever. Understand?”

She nodded, barely whispering
