Chapter 30 - Death by Eating Something Elongated
Three o’clock in the morning and Solene was fast asleep. She was oblivious as to what was going on around her when Henri decided to leave the bed, still naked, and strode out of the room and into the balcony. Once outside, dark shadows enveloped him and in a blink of an eye, he was garbed from head to foot with a black robe. His right hand spread mid-air and suddenly his great scythe materialized. He grabbed it and then vanished on the spot, reappearing in the highest part of the manor’s roof in less than a second. Checking the surrounding area for any unusualities, he quickly noticed neon green orbs floating close to his newly built barrier. He gave them a scornful look and hissed between his teeth. “These fucking Elementals just don’t know how to quit,” he muttered under his breath. Unlike two days ago, lost spirits and demon-possessed humans now weren’t present.

Chapter 31 - Death by Excessive Ehem...
After their breakfast, Henri received some business calls. He was outside the balcony when Solene decided to try the swimming pool. Dressed in a red two-piece swimsuit she deemed conservative enough, she walked past Henri and climbed down the balcony stairs. Of course, this caught Henri’s attention, but since he was still in the middle of a meeting, he instead tightly clutched the balustrade and gave Solene a desirous gaze. The pool’s water features were already turned on when Solene stepped inside. Bubbles from the small waves were everywhere. The temperature was comfortably cool, so she immediately swam underwater. By the time she resurfaced, she was already on the other side of the pool. Checking him out, Solene found that Henri was still on his phone, but his eyes were definitely trained on her. She gave him a grin and decided to submerge again, taking considerable time before hitting

Chapter 32 - Death by Possession
For the next two days, the head cleaner, Mrs. Ingrid, and the manor’s chef, Chef Ressu, followed a routine. They would leave breakfast at seven in the morning in a dining area set up inside the sitting room of the Master and Mistress’s chamber. By ten, while the lovers were away for another horse ride, Mrs. Ingrid together with Tessa would come inside the room to clean and restock fresh towels and toiletries. At twelve, lunch would be served in the same dining area and they would only come and pick the dirty plates and empty bowls an hour later, taking considerable effort not to disturb the next room. Tea would be served sometime between three or four in the afternoon, while dinner would be prepared at seven. Solene noticed that she hadn’t seen the faces of the staff for three days in a row now since their brief introduction on the first day. She would have wanted to thank them for their great service and delicious cooking, but Henri’s in

Chapter 33 - Death by the Master Grim Reaper
THIS IS A COPYRIGHTED BOOK UNDER THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PHILIPPINES. INFRINGERS WILL BE DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY. THE AUTHOR HAS GRANTED GOODNOVEL THE RIGHT TO PUBLISH THIS BOOK IN THEIR APP/WEBSITE.*** The moment Henri sensed Solene’s fear, he immediately transported back to the Fair Silver Estate. Enraged and ready to fight, he forgot to change his appearance and ditch the scythe. He had been so careful these past few days not to show his grim reaper form to his wife, preferring to show her when the time was right, but now it seemed, his anger overrode his cautiousness. He was totally exposed in front of her, all for her to scrutinize and judge. However, this was a matter best discussed in a different time, after the demon’s death preferably. Hovering in the air just a stones-throw away from where Solene sprawled, Henri locked gazes with her. His was full of controlled rage while hers filled with surpr

Chapter 34 - Death by Goodbyes

INFRINGERS WILL BE DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY. With her free hand, Solene rubbed her eyes and blinked many times before staring back at her husband. Her eyes were indeed playing tricks on her for this time, as Henri faced her, he looked like himself with the same short, raven hair. There was not a dark blue strand on his head and this relieved her...or at least for a bit. She couldn’t digest much about this information as the current situation demanded her attention. “I apologize you had to see that, Solene,” Henri stated as he approached her. The great scythe disappeared in a blink of an eye, much to her relief. Maybe, she could acquaint with such a weapon during her training, but for now, she preferred it out of her line of sight. “It is inevitable that you’d witness such a horrid sight, but I had hoped it would be at le

Chapter 35 - Death by Summoning
This monster growled and snapped its mouth towards Solene. Serrated teeth as sharp as any butcher’s knife flashed before her. Its stem-like hands created small cracks on the floor as it crouched down and readied itself for an attack. Solene was stunned on the spot. She pressed herself against the hardwood door and fought the urge to scream. This was Lady Ursula’s chamber but why was there a monster inside? Where was she? Her thoughts entertained many questions, all of which only the old woman could answer, unfortunately. Another growl reached her ears and with this, she tightly shut her eyes. Her thoughts lingered on Henri and that maybe he’d save her again, but no... No! She immediately shook her head. She wasn’t going to be some useless damsel-in-distress. She was going to be her own knight! Then, something sparked within her. "Amas antik e

Chapter 36 - Death by Spying
“The shipwreck caused a great flood of souls into the gates, Your Highness. The grim reapers were overwhelmed. If they hadn’t sought your help, the sorting of souls would have been compromised. It was an unpre—” “Stop,” Henri abruptly said forcing his secretary to pause and look up at him across the mahogany table. There were stacks of papers and record books spread in front of them, a result of their earlier business meeting. Henri had been super patient this whole time while Mr. Reynold reported what he missed during the honeymoon and what caused his sudden return to Sattus, but when he suddenly felt a break in space and an entrance of a monstrous being inside the estate, he couldn’t help but stop his secretary. “Your Highness?” Mr. Reynold gulped as he watched the master’s attention diverted elsewhere, “You...you want me—”

Chapter 37 - Death by Electricity
Fifteen Years Ago “This conjurer had the craziest request before he died,” the dark blue-haired grim reaper stated as he sat on a comfy couch inside a room. His elbows perched on the headrest and his head did the same; his boots hit the top of the coffee table as he folded his legs; allowing himself to get lost on the quick but well-deserved break from a tiresome day. Yes, he was fresh from a special mission; fresh from guiding a particular soul into the Afterlife when he decided to visit the Rantzen Estate. Swirls of pale blue, violet, and platinum white overtook his thoughts as he closed his eyes. These colors had left a mark on him and even more so, the owner—a child who had both unsettled and intrigued him. “A conjurer?” a woman of rust-colored hair asked, stopping from knitting and tossing him a curious look through the flickering light of the fireplace near her. “I thought Ursula

Chapter 38 - Death by Challenge
Henri waited for her to answer, wondering how she would react. Although already married and had been sharing a bed more than once, he was aware she was still figuring out her feelings for him. He wanted to give her space and time, but since those three deadly words had been freed from his mouth, there was no backing out now. After a full minute, she didn’t reply, much less move and this informed him of the real situation he was in: his wife had actually fallen asleep and she definitely didn’t hear him say those words. Because of this, Henri felt relieved. Maybe then when the right time comes he’ll confess again and tell her just how much he meant to her. After brushing a rogue strand of hair off of her face, he observed her again and recalled the day when he decided to be her betrothed. He started spying on her and protecting her from the entities she couldn’t yet see. Solene

Chapter 39 - Death by Food
A knock on the door made Henri pause from writing and stare across the room. Even just this alone he knew already who visited him. The door opened and in came Lady Ursula holding a cane instead of a staff. Henri arched a brow at this change of her appearance. Normally, she’d use her staff as just a prop or none at all. She never used a cane ever since. Lady Ursula, who saw the silent question in his eyes, merely flipped her hand in the air and scoffed. “No need to comment. My arthritis is acting up.” Henri held back a chuckle. “Then you don’t need to personally come here and inform me about Solene’s current whereabouts. I know she’s inside your ‘training grounds,’ Ursula.” The latter grinned at this. “Nothing escapes your notice, Henri.” “I would h
