Chapter-1: Rumble Trouble [Subaru POV]

"Man! What a day!" I exclaimed as I walked from work to my home. "Tokyo sure is a hell of a city. Who would have thought that I would have to start working part-time the minute I arrive here?" I thought, feeling exhausted. Well, if there is one thing I learned, it is that you need to start living at your own expense if you want to make yourself at home in Tokyo. My name is Kenjirou Subaru. I'm sixteen years old. I shifted to Tokyo a few years ago (I can't remember when) from Osaka because, well, I don't know why. I didn't have many friends, or rather, no friends at all. But if there is one thing I remember, it is that the years I spent in Osaka were a daily dose of torment, all because of my family's attitude towards me. Well anyway, basically, I am a loner whose belief has always been, “Don't expect too many good things in life, or you are wacko.” Anyway, I was just walking down the same familiar alleyway towards Minato City, which is where I live. Don't get your hopes up now; it's

Chapter-2: Ninjutsu [Subaru POV]

I caught his knife arm and twisted it, breaking a bone or two. The man writhed back and forth, screeching in pain. Crap. This must’ve gotten the attention of the others in here. It might be better for me to hide her somewhere.I turned towards Mika and said, “Hey brat! What are you waiting for? Go and hide outside, right now! Once we are done with this, I would like to have a talk with you.“Did Mika make you angry?" she looked down and asked.I could hear the ruckus from a little distance away. If she doesn’t hide now, it will be too late. I won’t be able to protect the two of us in this massive labyrinth. This isn't the time to apologize, so move it!“Listen, if you don’t hide somewhere, you and your sister will be done for. Now go!" Mika looked down with even more regret and left. Oh, come on! I feel like a big bully who just took a kid’s snack or an ice cream or something. You see, that’s the problem. I’ve made myself insensitive to little kids from a long time ago. So I definite

Chapter-3: Gentle Man- A matter of choice [Subaru POV]

"Here, drink this," I said as I tossed her a can of tea."Th-thank you! You have no idea how thirsty I am!""Hey brat! What would you like to have?!""I can have anything.""You sure can..." I replied absentmindedly."Anything?""Yes! Damn it!""I want to have a bag of Cheez-O!""Okay, one cheez-O coming up!"I turned to Mika, who was gazing at the sky with twinkling eyes."Beautiful, isn't it?""Subaru Big Bro! You like the stars too.""Yup. I sure do like them."Well, at least for the time being as of now. I thought as I glanced at Hanako, who was sipping the warm tea I brought her. She seemed really shaken up. I mean, yeah, of course anyone would be out of their normal line of reasoning if something unexpected happened all of a sudden.I probably should give her some company just so that she knows that she is no longer alone. I am not the comforting type, but at least I can try to be."Hey Mika-chan. Have a seat over here, okay? I'll be back soon enough.""Okay! Mika is a good girl,

Chapter-4: Reality [Subaru POV]

I dropped Hanako at her place and returned home relieved that everything went fine without any troubles, except those small fries I encountered on my way.I stood in front of my room, numbered 3. Here we are, home sweet home. Beautiful, ain't she? Heh, obviously not.The room I rented was just affordable and comfy enough to make my stay hospitable. A separate kitchen with an attached bathroom. In layman's terms, it's an all-in-one.I took out my jacket and felt a sudden surge of pain. Woah! I forgot that I was stabbed in the arm while protecting Mika. That runt got me in some serious pickle. Oh well, the past is past... No use blaming her now. There was a soft thud on the floor, and oh! It's that file from the room back then. I almost forgot about it. That room was one piece of work; it almost received a one-way ticket to the afterlife. Right, I bet you did not know what happened back there. Allow me....• Warehouse, a few hours ago..."No way.... What is this place?" I thought as I lo

Chapter-5: Meet My Colleague: Maki Sakisaki [Subaru POV]

They say surprise is the greatest gift life can grant us, but I think otherwise. I do like surprises when it comes to receiving something unexpectedly good, but not at this time of the night. Why did Maki have to drop by only at this time?! And what perfect timing too! She would obviously make a huge fuss about seeing the bandages on my arm.Now I realise why my eye was twitching all day today. Probably because of bad luck, and that has to happen now?!I immediately shut the door with a bang and scrambled back onto the floor. Damn! It really is her. What should I do?I could hear Maki speaking from the other side:Come on, Subaru, it's rude to keep someone waiting outside. So hurry and open up!"I quickly threw down whatever stuff I could find on the floor so as to pretend that I was a bit unattractive right now.I looked at Maki with a slight nervousness as I greeted her."H-hi. What brings you here?""You haven't been answering my calls at all for, like, what?Three hours! Obviously, I

Chapter-6: New Day With A Bang [Maki Sakisaki POV]

I woke up with a big yawn. I checked the time... Aw man! It's six in the morning?! It looks like I just said goodbye to today's attendance at School ( I mean, I could reach in time from here but my uniform is at my place)I looked around the room. Oh, that's right.I spent the night at Subaru's place. The thought alone made me turn red with embarrassment. I couldn't remember what happened last night, but whatever. Subaru is a trustworthy guy; surely he wouldn't have tried anything funny, no?That's right. Where's Subaru anyway? I looked around the room, but there was no sign of him at all.I went outside to the balcony and allowed the first rays of sunlight to permeate the room."Ahh. Fresh air and a healthy dose of vitamin D. Very nice indeed."Glad that you liked it. I always come up here just to enjoy the beauty of this scenario. The sky, the sun, and the air... It looks like they are talking to each other. I find it very rejuvenating.I looked up in total surprise as I saw Subaru

Chapter-7: Severed bonds [Hanako Michaelson POV]

I stared at the starry sky. The stars were shining merrily while casting their faint and soothing glow along with the moon. A day or two had passed since I met him. What was his name again? Kenjirou Subaru, yeah, that's right. I really should thank him properly if we cross paths again, that is. I sighed."Now, Mika. Stop throwing your stuff around, will you? It'll be a lot of work for Big Sister to clean up. So make sure you tidy up, alright?" I said this as I smiled at my adorable little sister. You see, she is just a five-year-old in kindergarten. Well, unlike most kids her age, she prefers to be picky about choosing her friends. This is going to end up being troublesome one day. No matter what I think, my thoughts always drift back to Subaru. Though it was only a meeting, it left quite a different impression on me. That face of his, those eyes that gave you the impression of the ocean, and most of all, the sadness and pain behind it. I wonder what happened with him, but there is on

Chapter-8: In The Moment (Subaru POV)

Today is the first day of school. Wonder what kind of people I am going to meet? I thought as I yawned, trying to rub the sleep from my eyes. Maki was walking right beside me, talking about this and that.My heart wasn't much into it because, as you know, all that anxiety and nervousness are whacking my brain and making me restless.I was too sleepy to even notice that Maki was calling out to me."Hey! heads up, sleepy head, we are almost there! ", She slapped my back so hard that I nearly stumbled towards a pole.I looked back at her irritatedly and said, "Watch it, you! I would have broken a tooth or two!""Oh, sorry ", she said, looking at me apologetically. "It's just that you were spacing out, so I decided to give you a nice pat."If you could call a pat, that is, you idiot. I flashed an annoying look at her. She was laughing at me as if nothing had happened. She can be such a pain. Even my peaceful morning got disturbed just because of her. Well, let me tell you what happened. A

Chapter-9: The Legend Of Sakura [Subaru POV]

'Alright, students, we are done for today. Enjoy your lunch. Hurry up! Go on! and Subaru, I want you to drop by the faculty room after school ends.""Yes ma'am! Gladly."I gotta say, I didn't expect the first day to be so smooth, enjoyable, and, not to mention, interesting. That was fine and all, but...I looked over my shoulder at the person next to me. Why on earth did I have to get seated next to her?!"Quit staring at me; you creep. You are making me uncomfortable," said Hanako.I was pretty annoyed, and my face didn't care to hide that fact either."Creep? me? You've got some nerve calling that to someone who saved your ass a few days ago!"Hanako simply rolled her eyes."Well, it is a boy's duty to protect a girl. By the way, I don't remember asking for your help, so stop reminding me about it."Mika, despite how cute and adorable she is, must have a tough time with the bratty nature of this girl. I sighed."Yo! care if I join you guys?".I looked over and saw a couple of guys appr
